Exceptional place. If you are seeking real Balinese paradise in the jungle, surrounded by wildlife with dreamy infinity pools, stay here!
We stayed in a heavenly pool villa over looking the rice paddy. Every day, I observed monkeys playing in the trees, hummingbirds enjoying the lush plantation and small noisy reptiles kept me company. I felt so immersed with nature.
The two main pools are out of this world, overhanging the lush jungle and plantation.
I treated myself to the Jet Lag spa package, which included a traditional Balinese petal bath. The spa itself overhangs the river among lush vegetation of the rain forest. A once in a lifetime experience.
The hotel grounds are exemplary and well groomed, oozing luxury throughout the complex. You can enjoy a walk around the hotel grounds, and you're sure to spot a monkey or two along the way.
For those unable to walk or simply for the humidity too much, a butler can be arranged via WhatsApp to drive you around the complex, perhaps to the gym for free yoga and meditation, or down to the spa, in a golf buggy. We did this a few times mainly for the novelty & laziness.
The dining experience is world-class, served on unique pieces of crockery. We dined in all the eateries the hotel offered and enjoyed every meal, and the menus were delightful with traditional cuisine and some well loved traditional dishes, too.
We stayed half-board, which was perfect. The breakfast options were varied, and the pastry and cake section was particularly awesome. The doughnuts were my favourite. Evening meals are sophisticated A La Carte. No buffet in sight! Classy evening entertainment includes traditional dancing and musicians really keeping the sophisticated charm and ambience.
I didn't find the drinks too overpriced, paying about £5 for a beer and £7 for a cocktail. I recommend the local Radler (beer/lemon) as recommended to me by the locals.
I prefer to stay in adult only hotels when i travel and do not enjoy having children around me when I am on holiday. Luckily, this hotel is not steered towards children. Therefore, adults can enjoy a relaxing and peaceful stay here.
I planned my trip to Bali to include a private tour guide and driver, and therefore, I was able to explore the best of Bali. I recommend going to the Monkey Forest, Ubud royal palace, Ubud market, and rice paddy, all relatively close by to Maya Ubud hotel, but you will need a chauffeur. All very busy but enjoyable. Do not take food or drink into the Monkey Forest - monkeys can be aggressive and know you have it in your bag.
You can book a floating breakfast if you stay in a heavenly pool villa at an extra cost, but it was a magical experience and I'm pleased I did it.
This hotel is world class. I stayed 5 nights, which is longer than the average stay, and I enjoyed every moment.

My husband and I stayed at Maya Ubud for our first week in Bali so that we could explore the cultural sights that Bali has to offer. It was recommended to us by Trailfinders and this hotel is probably the best we have ever stayed in. The staff at Maya Ubud are exceptional, before you have even reached your sun bed they are on hand with fresh towels and nothing is too much trouble for them. The setting of the hotel is truly magical, on our first day by the pool we were joined by a group of monkeys! There are 2 pools which are fairly small but this is not an an issue as the layout of the hotel means it does not feel overcrowded. The hotel offers wonderful classes that are included as part of your stay. I attended a yoga class one day and a meditation class that were both in the heart of the jungle and like nothing else I have ever experienced. The teachers were both incredible and I highly recommend attending these classes if you stay at this hotel. It is in a great location, with a regular shuttle bus taking you to the centre of Ubud which is a short ride away with the last shuttle being at around 5pm. My husband and I had dinner in Ubud one evening and it was very easy to get a taxi back at a later time. Whilst staying here we completed the sunrise trek of Mount Batur, attended a Balinese cooking class and visited the Saraswati Temple in Ubud. There is also a great shopping market in Ubud. The food at the hotel was lovely and they have a good selection of Indonesian and Western food on offer. There is entertainment on offer including traditional Balinese dancing but be sure to visit the Tree Bar when they have live music as the setting is incredible and the Bali Sangria was delicious. Thank you for a truly incredible holiday.

As I prepare to check out and head back to the UK, I reflect on why 4 out of 5 rating for the Maya Ubud this year after staying here last year too. The resort is beautiful, nestled in a rain forest within Ubud. Very calm, peaceful location and never feels crowded due to the way it is designed. However, weeks in advance of arriving, I always communicate with hotels to ensure finer details are in place and understood. My daughter has a NUT allergy, so making staff aware is important especially F&B teams. I received several emails that staff had been notified and the F&B team updated and notes on our booking. On arrival, our room had Almond Based Macaroons as part of their welcome. I notified the reception staff the same evening and was assured the staff would not place Nut based products in our room. Over the next 3 consecutive days, nuts were placed in front of my daughter at the Tree Top Bar & again in our room! I raised this several times via the What’s App butler service which we had and again assured this was a mistake (be aware, mistakes can be dangerous with a nut allergy). On the fourth day I was visited by the Resort Manager Mr Mara (very friendly) and the F&B Manager (apologies as I can’t recall his name). Both very friendly and apologetic about the constant ‘mistake’. Lots of apologies, pleasantries, offers of reassurance later they assured there would be no further ‘mistakes’ relating to nut products. And there weren’t I’m pleased to say. What I will say from my observations is this, there seems to be a lack of education / understanding around allergies specifically NUTs here at the resort, in main Ubud cafes and restaurants they are fully aware so not sure why the staff at Maya Ubud are in the ‘dark’ about the severity of a NUT allergy! Maybe it’s a training issue not sure but I do hope they resolve it as I’m sure there are many families with all sorts of allergies not just NUTs that can be very dangerous if exposed to the wrong food products. Overall, some lovely staff who always try to go beyond the edge to help and assist. Thank you again, I’m certain we will be back to stay for a third time. 🙏🏼

Just spent 5 nights at the Maya resort and what a fantastic place. After the chaos and noise of Ubud from the moment you turn into the private drive you are greet with manicured grounds and a feeling of quiet, peace and tranquility. It’s get better though when you actually get to your room, which in our case was a heavenly pool villa. Wow. The space, general upkeep of the room, location, bathroom and outside areas to relax in are wonderful. As your holiday progresses it becomes obvious that all the staff are friendly, chatty, professional and can’t do enough for you. I’ve never meet such warm genuine and contented people. Without exception the management must be delighted with their team. Now a word for fellow coeliac suffers and those with a gluten intolerance. I couldn’t find much information before I arrived but rest assured you will be well looked after. We were on an all inclusive basis but there was plenty of choice at the main restaurant, and if there wasn’t the chef was willing to prepare something fresh for me. I never once had a reaction. Plenty of choice at breakfast as well. A special mention to the executive chef who gave me confidence in his knowledge of allergens.
The location - set in manicured grounds on the side of a steep river valley the hotel blends effortlessly into the natural landscape. It’s like living in a rain forest but there are plenty of sunny areas too. Two pools and a children’s pool are available. One infinity pool and one set overlooking the river, with a bar and restaurant nearby with poolside service.
The hotel offer a frequent complimentary shuttle bus to get you into central Ubud - about 10 minutes. A nice touch. Plenty of leisure/sports facilities if required. You are able to walk out of the side of the hotel directly into paddy fields for a stroll - interesting.
We’ve travelled to many hotels and countries around the world. This has got to be up there with the best.

Firstly the location is Ubud which is the central highlands of Bali away from the hustle and bustle of the coastal tourist hotspots like Kuta. It is also generally a bit cooler being higher and takes about an hour to hour and a half depending on traffic. I would recommend using the Get Transfer app to tender any rides and get the specific vehicle you need. We had 3 adults and three children and as much luggage and got an aircon Toyota hiace coach with excellent driver pick us up for R600k (NZ$60) from Ubud to Kuta. Back to Maya Ubud Resort. It is just amazing architecture that blends with the environment and is extremely well maintained. The spa is incredible and accessed by lift down a 50m lift down a cliff face to the river below were you are massaged listening to the river. The food is diverse and of high quality and the staff are just amazing from front of house to the gardeners. The whole place feels truly zen and there is even monkeys, fish ponds a futuristic gym and kids nursery. If you need to truly relax and not interested in the shops but want infinity pools overlooking jungle river valleys or rice paddy’s this is it.

Staying in Maya Ubud was exceptional - the expansive grounds are beautifully-kept and the environment was calming and quiet. Most of all, every member of staff was extremely polite, friendly and warm, from the concierge to the restaurant servers to the cleaning staff. Special mention to Meiarta, Agus and Hendra for tending to our every need. We stayed in the 2-bedroom pool villa and the rooms were luxurious and fully equipped with amenities, and the hot tub and pool (and a massive turtle float prepared by Meirta) were a huge hit. The spa rooms are just above the river and having a treatment with the view of the beautiful river and forest was the epitome of relaxation. Breakfast was delicious with a good variety, and on one of the nights, we had dinner in the amphitheater with a traditional Balinese performance. It was also fairly close to some of the activities eg white water rafting. Truly a wonderful stay!

Our stay at the Maya Ubud was a lovely experience and we really enjoyed our time here. The landscaping is gorgeous and the whole setting of the hotel was very peaceful.
Staff at the hotel were very friendly from the moment we checked in until the moment we left the hotel, we couldn’t fault the service we received.
We stayed in one of the Heavenly Jacuzzi Villas and the villa was gorgeous and had everything you could have wanted and more. They were spotlessly clean and the bed was so comfortable. The bathroom was amazing and had the best bath. We had an issue with the jacuzzi outside initially but this was quickly rectified by the staff as soon as we notified them. We would definitely recommend ordering one of the flower baths from the menu if you’re staying in these rooms! They were beautiful!
The pools and pool areas were lovely with the sunbeds and towels of very good quality. The infinity river pool was our favourite and we spent most days by this pool. Here the service was amazing and you could enjoy the food from the Italian restaurant right by your sunbed.
We ate in all the restaurants at the hotel and the food quality and service was perfect. The happy hour the hotel offers in the Tree Bar was also great with live music being offered during this time.
Our only slight area for improvement would be around the atmosphere in the evening in the main areas. Once the live music and dinner entertainment had finished by 9pm there was nothing further happening, it would have been nice to have on some evenings some music continuing in the bar whilst you had a few more drinks, but due to the lacking atmosphere you didn’t feel like you could stay in the bar as it felt everything was winding down. We got taxis into Ubud and went to some of the bars in town to listen to some more music.
Overall we loved our stay here and would definitely love to return, we would just like a bit more atmosphere in the later evening.

We stayed at the Hotel Maya Ubud for 5 nights in April 2024. The hotel is in a very quiet location on the outskirts of Ubud in a beautiful garden and two great pool areas. We booked the hotel to go on excursions from there and thus avoid the chaotic traffic of the beach hotels. (see also the review of B.T.I)
We would definitely book the hotel again. We felt very comfortable. The staff is super friendly and extremely helpful.
We booked a normal Forest Suite and found the room to be excellent. Very large with a beautiful view of the garden.
There is nothing to complain about at breakfast. It is varied and everyone should find something to suit their taste. We loved the delicious Egg Benedict.
The complex itself is in very good condition and very well maintained. The two infinity pools are an absolute highlight. The hotel offers various free (e.g. yoga, jungle hike) and paid activities. We did yoga and the hike ... both can be recommended without reservation. The hotel also offers a free shuttle to Ubud (approx. 7 minutes). The walk can also be done in around 20 minutes. There are good restaurants within walking distance from the hotel... but when it gets dark, the narrow street is difficult to navigate without a flashlight.
All in all... we can absolutely recommend the Hotel Maya Ubud. We felt very comfortable there at all times. Many thanks to the great and friendly staff, especially Diaksha for the friendly and always cheerful service in the restaurant.

We came to this resort for our spa day and the experience was 11/10. Probably the best experience I've ever had and we also ate at The River Cafe while we waited for my husband to get his massage which was a wonderful and unforgettable experience on its own.
For our spa day, we got the full package: body, face, flower bath etc. and boy was it spectacular.
The ambiance was beautiful with the sound of the river in the background, it was as if you had relaxing earth tones playing but in real life, from the second you walk in you're greeted with kindness and offered a cold scent-infused towel for your face/hands with a glass of lime water which was a nice touch. It was like walking through a luxurious forest to get to your massage room but you are guided there and then greeted by your masseuse where the relaxation begins. The massage was perfectly firm for my liking, the body scrub felt amazing and the facial was intricate and refreshing, I felt like I got the best body detailed wash ever. It was the perfect experience. I loved how you get a 30 minute flower bath to yourself (with fresh ginger tea and cookies) it was a perfect time to reflect and really take in the moment and experience.
After my mom and I were done we went to the River cafe with my baby to wait for my husband who was going for his massage too, We spoke to Dewi who was such a pleasant and informative staff member, she told us about the events going on at the resort and was just so easy to talk to.
Merta and Linia were also extremely helpful when our phones died by providing a portable charger for us to recharge our devices and offering us the absolute best service. Linia even carried our baby around the restaurant so my mom and I could eat comfortably, it was truly so magical and so kind. Not only was the food fabulous we had the best service, having them tend to us was such a blessing. Even after the cafe closed Merta insisted we could stay comfortable and didn't rush us out or force us to leave.
On our way out we walked through the resort and were able to take in the ambiance a little more, it definitely seemed like a super luxurious place to be and I didn't see many babies around so not sure if it'd be ideal to stay here with a baby but the staff made it seem otherwise with how welcoming and kind they were with my baby this day. However it did seem like a rather quiet, peaceful and super relaxing resort.
All in all, the spa experience was truly one of the best I've ever had and the service and friendly staff members specifically Dewi, Linia and Merta at The River Cafe are worth visiting again. So grateful for the experience, will hopefully do it again soon!

There is also a tenniscourt with trainer, but that’s not for free ofcourse.
