I'd been to Pennyrile lodge in 2019 and really enjoyed my room with deck overlooking the lake. It's peaceful ( No cell service, be aware), has a nice pool, good beach without motorboats, hiking trails, etc. So a few months ago I decided to book a last of summer trip since my daughter is a senior this year and it may be awhile before we can travel together again. Much to our disappointment we get to Pennyrile and we have no room. I have my printed reservation receipt but they have no rooms do to a family reunion booking them all. They said there was a glitch in booking site and this had unfortunately happened to others as well. Spoke with a friend and she had this happen to her a few years back too. So, while I do recommend be aware that you need to verify before you show up because there 8s nowhere else to stay in the immediate area. We were able to book another room about 45 minutes away, but it was on the highway lol...a nice pool, but no scenic overlooks or hikes!

We stayed here about 15 years ago and remembered it as one of our favorite state parks. We were given a room 204. We were on the end . It was an handicapped room which was a good thing. The balcony was a problem for us. We loved it during the day but at night it was impossible to sit out there. They have placed a spot light on the balcony of this room. We were looking forward to sitting on the balcony and watching the night sky and that wasn't possible. The bathroom had a hand held shower sprayer, we never figured out how to run water in the tub through the faucet. We had to fill the tub up with water that came out of the sprayer. The air conditioner was a trip in it self. We believe there was something wrong with the wall thermostat it didn't even light up on the display. I did report these things to the desk after we checked out. We stayed 2 nights. There is no cell phone service but you will have internet if you have a computer. The lady at the desk was okay but not overly friendly. There is a restaurant but you will need to order and they will call you to pick it up when it is ready. You will need to bring a cooler with drinks and snacks. It will take at least 15 minutes to get to a restaurant in Dawson Springs. The restaurant we went to one morning was Ms. Becky's. Our last night at Pennyrile they had a wedding along with a reception. They were loud for most of the night. I heard things falling people yelling. The next morning I looked out to see how much damage was done. I didn't see anything but I'm sure that was cleaned up long before I got up. I was surprised they would allow this at a state park where people usually come for the quiet of being around the lake. The other big issue with Kentucky state parks is the dog policy. They are allowing these dogs to be in the lodge rooms from what I understand. They don't have separate rooms for people with dogs. I have no problem with service dogs. I have a major problem with being in a room that I pay good money for and thinking there are or could be fleas and who knows what else that was left from the pets. If you are a dog lover what would make you think I would want to sleep with dogs. I might not be that in love with your dogs. I say stop the dog policy at the Ky resort parks. If you keep the policy you will lose a lot of visitors to the parks,

The room appeared to have newer carpet and was clean. The lodge was nice with a good lounge. We ordered dinner to-go from the restaurant, which was good as well. The room had a great view of the lake and a balcony. Unfortunately, we were just passing through so we arrived late in the evening and left early morning, so we didn't get to explore the park. The let-down was the shower. It sprayed, but there was also enough water still coming out of the main faucet that the tub fills up while showering. For the cost of the room ($115), I expect a good working shower. Due to booking last minute, maybe we got the only room with the bad shower (room 206), but I doubt it. It's a nice place, but the bad shower was a major disappointment.

Loved this place!!! Before raving, some small cons. Housekeeping was just a towel exchange. The restaurant closes very early and can close even earlier on weekdays (7pm) and there’s nothing close- this is in some serious nowhere! There’s very little cell service- be prepared to make FaceTime calls. The homepage boasts about the spectacular array of songbirds and suggests requesting a table by the bird feeder- which wasn’t filled. It would have been wonderful if several feeders had been in use so I could have seen the tanagers and indigo buntings. I saw one lousy cardinal. The golf course wasn’t anything special- I know, boo hoo! This is a beautiful place- an Eden! The views take away my breath. Butterflies like I have never seen - everywhere. There is a fabulous swimming beach that is almost poster-worthy. The pool was perfect. The views from the room were wonderful. I’m hoping to come back with some extended family, rent the cottages and have family reunions here.

Wife and I have been visiting state parks in North Carolina to Tennessee and Kentucky for several years. We visited Pennyrile over the July 4th weekend and found it to be a most enjoyable park. We really enjoyed the hiking trails and the quiet of nature. They also have boating and fishing and a beach at the lake that was a pleasant surprise as we live in a beach community in Pensacola, FL. It is a great family place where everyone is welcome and the staff is fantastic.

Okay I admit I looked at all the wonderful reviews and not the negative when I should have. So let’s start off with how bad the signs are to get to the park. We got lost even with gps 4 times before we even got to the park. The signs are so faded they are almost impossible to read. So after almost and hour trying to figure out which way the lodge was we finally found it. When we pulled up it was a big shock from what the pictures showed. It was very outdated and I was hoping for the best until we walked inside and saw the condition of the lodge. It was very outdated and smelled of old moldy mildew. The staff was OK friendly but not the greatest in the world. They kind of acted like they really didn’t like their job too much but they were there. The only thing they bothered to update in the whole entire lodge was the name of Andy Beshear governor. After seeing the condition of the lodge I was very reluctant to even check in but I went ahead because I didn’t wanna be rude. So we checked in and quickly figured out that there was no elevator to go to the bottom floor. So you had to lug your heavy luggage down a steep flight of stairs. God forbid if you were old senior citizen or handicap person trying to get down those stairs. So after lugging our super heavy luggage down the stairs we went into our room and I was dumbfounded. It was like we walked into a time capsule from the 1920’s. And it smelled just like the lodge moldy and dusty and musty mildew. And the beds we’re not queen size beds they were more like full size beds but smaller. The room was super small and the bathroom was the worst. When you sit on the toilet the toilet paper roll was actually in your face touching you. Oh and did I forget to tell you there is absolutely zero Internet and zero phone reception there. And when I say zero I mean zero!! So if you needed to make a call or email it would be impossible with your cell phone. Oh and did I mention that the dog in the hotel room above us was barking and barking and barking. You could hear the barking so clearly like the dog was in the room with you. The outside patios had crappy old bent up mismatching patio furniture with dirty nasty ashtrays on every balcony and little patios. And both ice machines looked like they were 100 years old they were old rusted dirty and nasty and I don’t even think they worked. And there was no view whatsoever from the bottom floor. You could barely see the lake because of the gigantic trees and huge bushes that blocked your view. You would have to be on the upper level of the hotel lodge to see anything. The pool was WAY smaller than the pictures showed and it was outdated as well. Oh and did I mention the dog kept barking over and over and over again. I think that the people just left the dog in the room unsupervised to let them bark all day. So after 10 minutes I couldn’t stand it anymore I made my husband go check us out and get a refund because that’s how crappy this place is. None of the activities are together other than the pool is the only thing in walking distance. Other than that you have to get your car and drive down to the beach, paddle boats and so on. Also my husband said that the little lodge restaurant was very outdated and looked like it was from 100 years ago. Don’t get me wrong it was a beautiful on the outside of the forest but the lodge restaurant pool and everything is outdated. Thank God we left when we did because they said if we would’ve stayed 15 min longer that they couldn’t refund our money. I just can’t believe that this place is got so many good reviews. Because the smell when you walk in there’s enough to knock you off your feet. Nope, Nope & DEFINITELY not as good as the views say..

We stayed at Pennyrile state park lodge for one night! The park is beautiful, the beach area is very nice! The water is blue and shallow, great for small kids! The pool area is very nice! Right behind the pool there is a small trail that takes you to a sort of dam bridge! You have a great view of the lake from there! The food was not bad, limited menu due to the lovely COVID 19! Weekdays are not to busy! We enjoyed the quote and beautiful views! Would definitely go again! The main draw back is that it is in the middle of nowhere! Bring snacks and water and cooler!

Usually we cook for Thanksgiving, but our travel plans changed, so we decided to try the dinner offering at the Pennyrile Lodge. The lodge was nicely decorated for Christmas and was crowded, but the line moved fairly quickly. They had complimentary drinks and snacks for those waiting...a nice touch. The food was generally good, with a wide variety of meats, salads, vegetables, soups and deserts. All of the food was well prepared and fresh, though basic. The service was friendly and excellent despite a huge crowd. They do not serve alcohol. Though it was not as good as Home, we all left full and smiling.

A beautiful gem tucked away in the wilds of western KY. Pennyrile lake is a kayaker's paradise and the views of the lake from the Lodge are spectacular. We stayed in the Lodge on the 2nd floor. Our balcony overlooked the lake. Across the lake are cottages. We snooped around some of the empty ones. They are very rustic and could use updating. Access is an issue as many have multiple sets of stairs to carry your stuff to and from the cottages. But, once there, each has a fishing dock and easy access to the lake. There is a sand beach. Rental boats, canoes, kayaks and paddle boats are available. We usually camp in a pop up so we checked out the campground. The sites are jammed together and the narrow roads and trees would make it a challenge to back a trailer in. Many sites are not close to being level so bring your leveling blocks, lots of them. The horseman's campground is newly renovated and all the sites are pull throughs. We hiked a bit and the limestone cliffs are beautiful and rugged. They have tennis courts and a golf course. We ate all our meals in the dining room. Great service, friendly people and ok food, not great, but ok. All the rooms and cottages are "pet friendly" which for us was a problem. Due to allergies, "pet unfriendly" suits us best. We had a great time and look forward to coming back. And, oh, yes, there is a resident ground hog who seems to think he owns the place.

I figured from the beautiful location and close proximity to Dawson Springs that id be pretty comfortable here and I rented 2 cabins for me and my co worker. They were very roomy albeit outdated and lacking in options (they only have queen beds available). Cell coverage is non-existent and the wifi could pass for dial up. My first problem came when I jumped in one of the 2 queen beds and was met with a wet spot plus a strong odor of urine, it appears they just folded the blankets back over where somebody had an accident. I jumped back in the shower and got back in the OTHER bed and realized quickly the room has a moron detection ac system and will not turn the fan or ac on as long as it doesn't detect motion. This wouldn't be a problem if the thermostat was mounted where the people actually are at night. So after 2 hours of rolling in the bed trying to sleep in the now 78 degree room I moved to the couch so at least il be comfortable for the remainder of the night. I cannot recommend this resort.
