What a beautiful place to stay. We had a wonderful meal and the building was historical and gorgeous inside and out! Mary Brekeninridge is an icon in my book and I loved being in her home. I would happily go again!

This B&B is the site of the Frontier Nursing Service, a non-profit dedicated to serving the people of Appalachia. Beautiful and rustic, it's a gorgeous mountain retreat on a running creek that is fascinating in its history. Started in 1925 as a midwifery service, with couriers on horseback traveling to deliver babies in the surrounding hills, and expanding into a...

I really enjoyed staying at the Wendover Bed and Breakfast! It is peaceful and cozy, and the breakfast was amazing! I love the history - the main house was built by a famous Nurse Midwife who made a tremendous positive impact on the surrounding community. She is one of my hero's and I felt honored to stay in her home!

Loved this place... We stayed here in June 2016 and I am finally getting around to reviewing. We had two adults and two children and reserved the only unit with a kitchenette and separate bedroom. It was great for kids because they had a pull out couch to use and since the area was once reserved as the Frontier Nursing...

Wendover B&B is a jewel nestled away in the Kentucky mountains overlooking part of the Kentucky River. It is a quiet retreat that is warm and inviting. I had the pleasure of spending an evening there on December 1, 2016. The food was a delicious, home-made experience that rivaled the most favorited Grandma's cooking! This B&B is also filled with...

It's rich history aside, I found Wendover to be a place of fresh air, peace & quiet, with gorgeous views of the autumn foliage in the Kentucky mountains. I was "stuck" in Kentucky, due to an approaching hurricane that made it impossible for me to reach my planned destination for a few days. Staying in Wendover was like being in...

As a Kentucky native I enjoy experiencing exploring my home state. Wendover has a very rich history and it's a lovely place to visit. Besides the food being phenomena (especially the homemade rolls), the views are exquisite. There are many wonderful things to see and do in this area. Stop in and visit for a spell.

Stopped off on my way to Vanderbilt University with my kids to show them where I studied 25 years earlier. We recieved such a warm welcome in Hyden Kentucky at the school and at the Big House, historic home of Mary Breckinridge, now a beautiful, comfortable bed and breakfast. The natural setting is beautiful, the staff lovely, food delicious and...

I am glad that you and your family were able to stay at the Big House. As you have noticed, Wendover is still the same peaceful place that it was when you here several years ago. I hope you will stay with us again soon!

The place was beautiful and the history is amazing. The food was great, would love to come back with my husband for a quiet getaway and connect with nature. The Wendover house was beautiful and many antiques furniture pieces from the 1800's.

Thanks for your review. It is always a pleasure to share the wonderful heritage that Mrs. Mary Breckinridge left for the enrichment of public health. As a new FNU student, I wish you and your cohort all the best on your journey to become an advanced practice nurse! Come back and visit us again soon!

First of all, there is not much to do in the immediate area. This is a great place to go an just relax. The Wendover Bed & Breakfast is on the site of Mary Breckenridge's home. She founded the Frontier Nursing Service, now the Frontier Nursing University in nearby Hyden. She brought healthcare to the people in rural Eastern Kentucky...

“Guests have the option of staying in the Big House, Garden House, or Barn (renovated). If you prefer being surrounded with historical elegance, the Big House is the place for you. If your budget is tight, though, you may prefer to stay in the Barn. Although not as elegant as the Big House, it is clean, comfortable, and close to the dining room. Bathrooms are shared in the Barn.”
