I stayed a night in April '16 with my parents so they could show me where my family originally came from in Louisiana. It was such a special and fun night in an old plantation home. The dog was so sweet. The property had great photo ops. I had lots of wine and enjoyed making friends with everyone there during... More

A visit to Madewood is what you always imagined living in a plantation house in the antebellum south was all about. Built in 1840-48 by Colonel Thomas Pugh, a member of a prominent and wealthy Louisiana family, Madewood represents one of the finest and purest examples of the Greek Revival style architecture in a plantation home. Located at 4250 Highway... More

We only stayed one night for my birthday during March of 2016, however we wish it could have been 3+ nights! We we're driving from Shreveport, and before that Dallas/Ft Worth, to make it to Madewood. While we we're stuck in traffic south of Baton Rouge, we we're unsure if we would make it in time for the dinner, so... More

Beautiful old mansion; good, hard-working and for the most part well-meaning people; good food; good old Southern hospitality and ambiance. These are the things we came away with and want to remember about our visit. Granted, it took 12 minutes for the water to get hot enough in our room to take a shower, but then there was not enough... This review should be removed immediately, as its claims are false and defamatory. We have security videos of the person making the claim wearing the jewelry (a man's bracelet) both at checkout and as they approached their vehicle to depart Madewood. When the gentleman called to report his bracelet missing, he told Angie that he was not certain where he... More

This place is an perfect Southern experience. The food was excellent. We started the night with wine and cheese, proceeded to the dinning room for dinner and was served a 4 course meal, after this superb meal we where invited in the parlour for a night cap. The room made you feel like you where taken back in time and... More

Great place, fantastic food and wonderful people -- especially Angie! I was part of a bike tour group, and we stayed two nights. The tour with Woman Tours was exceptional, and Madewood was a highlight.

My husband and I have stayed at Madewood twice. This time we took our 17 year old daughter and her friend on our way to NOLA to a wedding and a Tulane tour. We will return again. It is a beautiful home with the most hospitable, helpful staff. Staying at Madewood is unique. It is not a hotel, it is... More

This Henry Howard plantation is one of the great show places of South Louisiana. The grounds, cemetery and views enhance the magnificent architecture. However, I would strongly suggest that you book in the main building. The 3-bedroom "cabin" with the screened porch looks charming FROM THE OUTSIDE, and the porch is pleasant. BUT the interior leaves much to be desired.... More

What a delightful experience it was to stay here. After touring far less spectacular plantations with less impressive furnishings, it felt amazing to move about and enjoy the home like a real guest with gracious host in an amazing southern plantation. From getting dressed up for wine and cheese in the library before dinner to sleeping in an antique canopy... More

While travelling through the south, we decided to spend the night at/on a plantation. The pictures and write up for Madewood, seemed enticing so decided to try here. Madewood has seen better days - a long time ago. Granted up keep on a house of this size and age must be expensive, but it is in need of much restoration... More

Madewood has never been grander in its 170 years than it is today, with Waterford chandeliers and furniture by noted 19th-century craftsmen such as Meeks and Lee. Please view the beautiful photos of the Main House and Charlet House that these guests posted here. I would like to clarify several misconceptions: 1. In the spring, we welcome the arrival of...
