An impromptu lunch for 8. We had friends staying for the weekend and at the last minute we decided that a Sunday lunch was in order. Called several of the usual haunts but they were fully booked. On the off chance we tried the Golden Lion and were very happy we did. Good food, nice service lovely atmosphere. I'd say...

So pleased to hear you enjoyed your Sunday Lunch, you are right to recommend to reserve your table in advance as our Carvery is very popular. We offer roast breast of Turkey, roast sirloin of Beef and Roast Loin of Pork, traditional accompaniments, seasonal vegetables & potatoes. For those that don't fancy a carvery we have a few alternative options...

We stayed at the Golden Lion Hotel for one night prior to an event nearby the following day, and we had pre-booked an evening meal. Our room was very comfortable with good quality furniture and fittings, flat screen TV, tea making facilities with a teapot, with cups and saucers. Top marks, a personal hate of mine is tea bags and...

What a wonderful 5 star review to read on a Monday morning. So pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your stay and that you had the best night sleep ever. See you next time you have a business trip in Rugby.

We were in the area for a wedding and looking for somewhere reasonably priced. The Golden Lion exceeded our expectations. We received a very warm welcome, the room was a good size, with all facilities we needed. We had a starter each in the restaurant before we went out for the evening and the food was outstanding. I thoroughly recommend...

Felicity, this is not the first time we have been described as a "country gem" and I think it sums us up very well. What a good idea to have a starter with us first before going out for the evening. Thank you for your review.

First of all I should point out this is not a 5 star hotel it is an Old English Pub that has had an accommodation wing added. We recently stayed at the Golden Lion while visiting the family in Coventry. We found the staff very friendly particularly Caroline who was charming and Pauline who was very helpful. If you wish...

Dianne, many thanks for taking the time to provide us through TripAdvisor with such a detailed review and for your particular mention of Caroline and Pauline, I'll make sure they both see your comments. I have highlighted to the owners your concerns regarding the accommodation looking tired, the bed in Room 121 and the housekeeping standards. We look forward to...

We ate here the other Saturday night, not having booked didn't matter as we were quickly found a table. The menu was typically pub food but at restaurant prices (£24 for a sirloin steak, £30 for fillet). We both ordered a sirloin which I can only describe as a mediocre cut of steak at best, considering 50% was fat. Trimmings...

I travel frequently for business, perhaps 3 to 4 nights in the week away from home. I have a Premier Inn card for convenience and although most of the time Premier supplies first class service, their hotels can be soulless. For that reason I sometimes try to find a local hotel with a good pub attached serving good food and...

Visited with family for a birthday Sunday lunch. I have been before and as with previous reviews was more than satisfied with the quality of food and the service. This was a visit paid for by a voucher given to me at Xmas. I still feel it a little expensive for what it is, and that's why I only give...

Oliver, thank you for taking the time to complete a review on TripAdvisor. Unfortunately as a privately owned business, we don't reap the benefits of mass buying power and this means that our costs are higher to provide you with the quality of food we produce. We do hope you return to us soon, maybe you will receive some more...

We had arranged a school reunion to celebrate our 65th years having all started at Dunsmore Boys School, Rugby in 1962, having been there five years ago. We came here as a group of six of us for Sunday Lunch. When you first arrive it looks great and there's a lovely smell of the food cooking. Once we sat at our tables I looked at the menu and there's not a great choice for a Sunday lunch time, a choice of 4 starters and 3 mains or...
