This is a terrific pub within an hour's drive from Heathrow and a railway station right next door. Genuine pub atmosphere and gourmet food that's won awards. Outstanding staff and service. Local beers Loddon and Rebellion as well as Doom Bar and Landlord when we visited. Good wine list. Huge breakfast included in the price. When we had to leave...

Our table was booked and we arrived on time for our Sunday Lunch. The small car park was full so we had to park on the road. However once parked we entered the pub and walked through the bar area to the restaurant. Here we waited and waited in full view of the staff for ages before someone came and...

Thank you for your review. We are sorry that your Sunday lunch experience was not what you expected it to be. Addressing the points you make in order. Firstly, thank you for booking and arriving on time. This is not always the case these days. We are a popular country inn of some age and as such we have limited...

Though our visit to Shiplake was for a sad occasion we stayed at the Baskerville and were wonderfully looked after. We stayed in a large family room - myself and two daughters and it was most comfortable in every way. We enjoyed excellent breakfasts and the dining room is certainly fine dining - the food delicious. This pub is unspoilt...

Booked this pub/inn due to its location- close enough to Henley but not in the thick of it all. Perfect location with the train station a 2 minute walk and regular trains to Henley (4 minutes ) , Twyford and Reading and just 40 minutes to London. Made to feel very welcome upon arrival. We had booked the family room...

My wife and I were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary with another couple and decided on a couple of nights at The Baskerville in Lower Shiplake - what a fantastic find! The pub is situated down a fairly quiet lane, has its own car park and is very close (but not obtrusively so) to the railway station (known simply as...

Stayed for a weekend at the Baskerville to celebrate my Mums 80th Birthday. From the moment we arrived we could not have been made more welcome. This is a busy and very friendly Hotel / Pub. A lovely village, the locals were "harmless" and chatty and the pub is certainly dog friendly as there were plenty of well behaved dogs...

We stayed at the Baskerville mainly for location and reputation of restaurant quality (see restaurant review). The room was spacious, clean with one double and a single bed (not a sofa bed). The location was sufficiently away from main towns and is an ideal location for Henley, Oxford and Windsor. We all had a good nights sleep and the bed...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Oxfordshire Restaurant of the Year 2016. The Baskerville in Lower Shiplake remains a traditional village inn with a ‘proper’ bar, a delightful restaurant, 4 star accommodation, a beautiful garden and ambitions beyond its AA rosette. With Kevin Hannah and head chef Jamie Herridge at the helm, its outstanding customer service is matched only by its creative, seasonally changing menus. Fresh, ethically and locally sourced produce lie at the heart of its modern but classically based dishes which offer a memorable experience. 2015 Beautiful South Awards. Silver Award in Tourism Pub of the Year. It is a AA 4 star Inn and is similarly rated by Visit England but with a Silver Award. It is situated on the Thames Path in the tranquil, affluent village of Lower Shiplake, with well appointed en-suite rooms, the Baskerville is the perfect place to stay the night either for Dinner, business or just for a leisurely break. The small town of Henley-on-Thames with its many interesting shops and home to the Henley Royal Regatta and the Henley Festival is only 1.5 miles away. Enjoy a boat trip up the Thames or visit the River and Rowing Museum. Try a night at the Kenton theatre, the fourth oldest in England. Within the village why not stroll along to Shiplake lock and watch the river cruisers pass through. A little further up the hill is the 13th-century parish church of St Mary's where Alfred Lord Tennyson was married. Further afield are the towns of Reading 7 miles, Windsor, with its castle, and nearby Legoland 15 miles, and the university town of Oxford, 22 miles. All of these can be reached by train from Shiplake station 150 m from the pub via the Henley branch line to Twyford on First Great Western trains. Feeling a little more adventurous? Paddington station is less than an hour away with all that London can offer. Shiplake is 25 miles or 30 minutes by cab or car from Heathrow Airport. ... more   less
