Sometimes the phrase "lots of character" means the place is stuffy, in need of repair, and doesn't have amenities. None of those are true about the Herbert. It has a tremendous amount of early 20th century character, the rooms, and bathrooms, are clean, and it's...More
We have stayed here 5 times on the way to camping. Can't beat the price, beds are comfy, clean and spacious bathrooms, great restaurant across the street, and we love the historical ambience. Onsite pub is open Friday and Saturday evenings. Hostess Dawn, whose son...More

This is an old hotel that shows it's age, both good and bad. Wonderful woodwork details, large comfortable lobby, wide stairway and antiques scattered around the hallways. It's age shows in the bathrooms, carpeting, some of the furniture and a lack of amenities. We've stayed there to ski Sugarloaf, only when other lodging is unavailable. It's okay for a few nights. The prices reflect that.
If you're looking for plush luxury accommodations for cheapo prices, you're going to be constantly disappointed.
