Experience the ambience of this 1918 hotel, with the original fumed oak woodwork in the lobby , terrazo floors and the veranda. Enjoy the Western Mountains of Maine in all seasons. Although 89 years have seen many changes, "The Herbert" has not lost the feel and appearance of "Grand Hotel". So take the time to stop and smell the roses as you step back in time in this 1918 hotel.
We loved this hotel! It is updated but still has its historical charm. There’s a neat bar/lounge area, the staff is friendly, the rooms are clean and it is reasonably priced. No there are no TVs or elevators but there is WiFi and the rooms...More
We stayed at the Herbert Grand Hotel after two nights on the Maine Hut to Hut Trail. It was close to the end of our trail hike and chose it accordingly. It is a clean hotel with lots of history. For example there are transom...More

This is an old hotel that shows it's age, both good and bad. Wonderful woodwork details, large comfortable lobby, wide stairway and antiques scattered around the hallways. It's age shows in the bathrooms, carpeting, some of the furniture and a lack of amenities. We've stayed there to ski Sugarloaf, only when other lodging is unavailable. It's okay for a few nights. The prices reflect that.
If you're looking for plush luxury accommodations for cheapo prices, you're going to be constantly disappointed.
