Hike the Appalachian Trail or Bigelow Mountains, bike or ski Sugarloaf, snowshoe or nordic ski the Maine Huts & Trails system, snowmobile or ATV over hundreds of miles of maintained trails, and experience the outdoors in Maine. The nearly one-hundred year old historic Herbert Grand Hotel & Pub in Kingfield, Maine is one of a kind. The hotel is 15 miles from Sugarloaf Ski Resort in Maine's western mountains and near the Maine Huts and Trails hiking system and the Appalachian Trail. We combine the quirkiness of a historic hotel with the rich cultural history of the mountains of Maine. All 26 guest rooms were renovated in 2016 and we opened McGregor's Pub in-time for the 2017-2018 ski season at Sugarloaf and in 2018, we were listed on the National Historic Registry.

If you have seen the movie you know what I’m talking about. Very nice staff who let me check in a bit early (arrived to get ahead of snow storm) and get settled. I don’t need entertainment as was there to ski and hang with cousin. He apparently stayed in the haunted room 318 and

I have traveled quite often, and never in my life have I experienced the kind of treatment that I have with the Herbert Grand Innkeeper. I was very ill, so a few days before my trip, I called to request a refund for our upcoming reservation, or the chance to rebook the room for

We stayed here because it was one of the few pet friendly hotels in the area. I made reservations personally. Upon checking in it felt like having our dog with us made us pariahs. We received a cold reception and felt as if showing up was putting the woman at the front desk out

This is an old hotel that shows it's age, both good and bad. Wonderful woodwork details, large comfortable lobby, wide stairway and antiques scattered around the hallways. It's age shows in the bathrooms, carpeting, some of the furniture and a lack of amenities. We've stayed there to ski Sugarloaf, only when other lodging is unavailable. It's okay for a few nights. The prices reflect that. If you're looking for plush luxury accommodations for cheapo prices, you're going to be constantly disappointed.
