No tv, wifi is terrible, old stained carpet in bedroom, old air conditioning unit doesn't work, beds are uncomfortable, mild on tubs. Homeless looking people sleeping in Lobby. This place could be beautiful but it's a disgusting run down old hotel ( don't be fooled by the beautiful lobby,,,,, ask to see a room

My husband and I stayed at the Herbert over the weekend while we attended a wedding in the area. When we booked our room we noticed that the check in time was not until 3. We called the day before we were heading there and easily changed to an earlier check-in (noon!) To better accommodate our needs. When we arrived... More

We stayed at this hotel located in the mountains of northern Maine for a night prior to a camping trip. Our host and proprietor Dawn made our experience wonderful. If you're looking for a beautiful setting, nice local people and a historic experience, this is the place for you. Not to mention that the Herbert Grand is haunted. You have... More

Thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay at this gem of a hotel. The room/bathroom were cozy and clean and well-appointed - king size bed, full-size dresser, sofa, and desk (no TV, but we would not have watched it anyway). Plenty of hot water 😊There is a spacious upper deck where you can relax and watch the traffic/people go by. Downstairs there... More

We stayed one night in early August. While it is a quaint old place, there are some things that should be brought up to date for the modern traveler. The free Wi-Fi didn't seem to be working. The bathroom needed new flooring and the old steam/spa bath should have been replaced. The side of the tub was very high, and... More

After a seven-hour drive from S.E. Vermont, we were glad to fall into bed (one of the rooms which have been newly rehabbed up on the third--"haunted" floor)! Dawn, our hostess was still up to greet us when we arrived at 10:00 p.m. Since there was no television in our room, my wife watched Hillary's acceptance speech on the big... More

Its not a five star resort but for the price it offers exceptional value, friendly service and a clean place to spend the night. I stayed two nights while in the area for some hiking and the hotel was hosting a Model T club meeting which seemed appropriate while staying in an old hotel. The rooms have no TV but... More

The 5 star reviews for this hotel are impossible to fathom after staying here. We stayed for one night on our way to Castine, ME. Pets are allowed and the charge was 50.00 per pet. The room was tiny with one full sized bed. The desk chair was a folding metal chair used at outdoor functions. Carpeting was old and... More

Stayed here last weekend for the Sugarloaf marathon. Very suitably located 500 meter from the finish line. Because we had booked for 2 nights we got upgraded to room 312 (with King size bed) which was recently renovated. Was on the warm side, but windows could be opened to bring in some breeze. If you need a really quiet room,... More
