The Birches is an old, rustic "resort" on Moosehead Lake. It's right on the shore of the lake which is great, and the restaurant is pretty good, but our accommodations were awful. Our extended family of 6 (3 adults and 3 teenagers) stayed in the Strangers in Paradise house (as opposed to the smaller cabins) in early July. Granted, the...

My family and I stayed the week of July 17th. This place is a slice of heaven. The views are breathtaking. We stayed in the Elmer Bemis which was a 1 minute drive from the lodge. Very secluded and comfortable for the 6 of us. All the staff treated us great. Food was excellent and huge portions in the lodge....

The lodge and the cabins could use some updating. Our lodge room had holes in the window screens and the bed spreads. The cabin was pretty worn and in need of repairs. The location is about two miles off the main road and about 30 minutes from Greenville. The views of the lake are amazing. The staff was very helpful...

Don't expect luxury at the lodge or much activity in the nearby towns and you'll be fine. Incredible views, great lodge food, beautiful Mt. Kineo for 9-hole golf with no one around, board games over snacks and drinks and peaceful breezes in the birch trees. Outdoor jacuzzi with fireflies and night sky. We stayed in a lodge room with a...

All was excellent. We had a small stuffy room but it was carefully explained to us when we reserved the room. The manager did give us a fan and we had an excellent nights sleep. The paddle boat was captained by an excellent guide. He knew the spots found the moose and gave us plenty of time to observe. Importantly...

This is a review of the Birches restaurant, not the resort as a whole; we were there for dinner this week. Every table has a pleasant view of Moosehead Lake from the rustic room. Service is eager if inexperienced. Food was moderately good. The large portions, if you're not a lumberjack, mean that sharing is in order. Modest wine list.

On a recent vacation to Moosehead Lake, we visited The Birches Resort. Although we didn't have the opportunity to stay in their cabins, we ate at their restaurant several times and enjoyed each fabulous meal. Their prices were good and the portions were very large. Great food! The highlight, however, was taking a seaplane tour of the area. John is...

Outside of snowmobile season, the prime reason to visit the Birches Resort is the lake. If you can't get out onto the lake for some reason, go someplace more comfortable to sit and enjoy the view. I understand "rustic," because I used to live in Alaska. It ranges from "cute" or "quaint" to "decrepit." On the rustic scale, cabin #3...

I am sorry The Birches, did not live up to this travelers expectations. Perhaps if they had been more vocal about these concerns, we could have made their stay more enjoyable. We have 18 cabins and several homes directly on the lake. I live on the premises and like to have satisfied guests. The accommodations are offered without boat rentals....

We just returned from a fantastic week at the Birches Resort! The resort is everything you expect in northern Maine. Real rustic charm to step back, relax and enjoy life. Everyone there made you feel like old friends. After a long day of snowmobiling, we would stop in the bar for a drink, and hop in the hottub. Then off...

My friends and I are private pilots of small airplanes and every winter we make it a point to visit the Biches. This is our favorite destination for the entire year. John and his entire staff treat us like family! The Birches is a destination with many different experiences to offer. Our group really enjoy the rustic cabins with the...
