Tried this seasonal restaurant last year and it was very good; returned this year and the evening was phenomenal. The place has been around since the 1920s and is well maintained, not gussied up in trendy nouveau paneling, not tired looking. Arrived early, asked to wait at bar in a rustic lodge with a huge fireplace and comfy sofas. Inquiring...

On our second trip to Kawanhee we rented a cabin (the first time we stayed in the lodge)--both visits were amazing. It's a hidden gem, not overrun like resorts with too many people--reminds me of how vacations used to be in the 1960s--all about the beautiful setting and the family you're with, not about spas or resort-y activities or shopping--it's...

Quiet and Rustic are the key words here. To enjoy the Kawanhee you really need to have realistic expectations. The showers are funky, the trimmings are sparse, walls are thin, breakfast is basic, it is not luxurious. But it IS a step back in time and that is what makes this place magical. It's beautiful and the staff is friendly.

Having read great reviews in Trip Advisor and “Maine: An Explorer’s Guide” by Christina Tree and Nancy English, my wife and I booked room 19, one of two top rooms with a lake view, in the Kawanhee Inn, for seven days in late August- early September, 2015. The daily rate was $175, and I paid half of the total amount...

If you want to get away from it all and I mean all, this is the place to go. No television, no internet, cell phone had one bar. There is internet service in the main building but not the cabins. The lake is great a perfect place for canoeing and kyacking. The onsite restaurant is the go to place in...

I stay at the Kawanhee Inn at least a few nights every summer. It is welcoming, comfortable, and reasonably priced. The view from the porch is spectacular! As noted in the title of this review, the Inn is rustic--think log cabin. Some rooms have shared bath facilities. However, the Inn has a fully-stocked bar, a fantastic dinner menu, and a...

At first sight, the Kawanhee complex is a vision of rustic perfection. The lakeside setting, the inn and surrounding cabins and open-feeling wood-beamed common area with stone fireplace are impressive. Although most of the staff that we met were friendly and helpful, the inn misses the mark on providing the level of service that should come with such a property....

I walked into the parking lot from the car, wow what a cool looking building. I walked into the lobby, wow what a cool lobby. I walked to the bar and looked outside, wow I get to drink whilst looking at this amazing view? So many wows about this place, from the food to the atmosphere to the staff. Warning,...

We are about to come back for a third stay this summer. I came when I was younger (15 years ago), and again last year. The lakeside location is perfect for outdoor walking, canoeing or porch-sitting. I love the quaint lodge and the old-fashioned rooms. An idyllic Maine summer lodge experience. Worth the trek through sweet, Maine-y Weld, ME.

My grand parents met here in the 1930s when she worked at the inn and he worked at the boys camp. My family and I used to come here when we were kids. Now we bring our children. It a great place to unplug and relax. The grandparents are gone but the memories remain.
