If your tastes run to B&B's, looking for something historic, as well as comfortable, pleasant garden area to sit and relax, sitting rooms, wonderful breakfasts, with an innkeeper who loves what she does and will accommodate whatever your preferences are, then look no further. Plus, it is a short walk to the downtown area of an incredibly wonderful/historic town. Marta...

I had a wonderful but all too short visit at this wonderful Bed & Breakfast. The owner, Marta, went out of her way to make me and the other guests feel not "at home," but like kings and queens. I could not clean up a dirty dish for the life of me. She and her husband have built a beautiful...

Visiting for the MNMF. Such a comfortable and friendly town. Stam house is beautiful. Old victorian cleverly incorporates some updates to mix the best of both. Missed Marta as the host as she was off - and breakfast was admittedly not what it might have been - but her house sitter was helpful and pleasant. Overall, good location and fun...

Thank you for the kind words. I, too, am sorry to have missed you. If you're back for the festival next year, be sure to ask for Eggs Sardou for breakfast - it's not only my favorite things to make, but it's a real treat hard to find outside of New Orleans (or Chestertown).

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Marta was an incredibly warm and gracious host. My wife enjoyed all the pampering she was required to endure. The house itself was well renovated and restored, while remaining welcoming. Our room was the Horsey room, and it was well appointed with an antique dresser, but it never felt fragile. The claw...

Everything about the John L. Stam house was perfect. My husband and I were on a quick weekend trip to Maryland and needed a place to stay overnight. Our experience at the John Stam house was unexpectedly terrific. Warm and welcoming hostess, clean and attractive room with private bathroom, comfortable bed piled high with clean, lovely linens and pillows, bright...

Wonderful B & B. Marta is an excellent, caring and gracious host, making herself available and accommodating at all times. The building is unique, will leave for you to discover. The gardens are lovely even though we didn't visit due to inclement weather. Well decorated, comfortable and inviting common rooms. Coffee is ground fresh every morning and brought to your...

This bed & breakfast is great and Marta is a gracious hostess. I and a college friend regularly get together for a yearly get together somewhere in the mid-Atlantic area. We always look for a bed & breakfast that has a room with two beds - two REAL bed. We stayed in the Hill Room, a 3rd story room with...

I can't say enough wonderful things about the John Stam House and it's lovely owners! With a daughter far away from home at Washington College, this has become our home away from home while visiting. Beautiful home and gardens, fabulous accommodations, terrific coffee and breakfast and truly warm and welcoming people. Thank you Marta for always going above and beyond!...

A last minute change of plans forced a quick stay in Chestertown. The John Stam House was able to accommodate me on short notice. What a gracious home and hosts! Beautifully restored gothic victorian from 1860. Walk to the charming downtown, waterfront and Washington College. Comfy beds, spacious room, beautiful gardens, delicious breakfast... and last- but certainly not least... the...

“We had the Horsey room (named afterr former owner, not horses) :) It was the largest of the rooms and had a huge bath with clawfoot jacuzzi tub. Very comfortable. The room next to us has a bathroom with the bathtub up the stairs in the cupola--really cool!”
