We came in off the rough and muddy section of the canal from Cumberland and Darlene was ready for us! Located a short distance from the canal it was easy to find with the local directory (as our phones were nearly dead). She was prepared with easy access to a hose for us and the bikes, utility towels, and a...

We stayed just overnight on the first leg of a two day trip and found so many things to love that we've decided to come back Labor Day to bike ride the trail and stay the whole weekend. The inn is great! Clean, cool, and calming. Darlene and Bill could not be nicer - they accommodated our later than usual...

Stay here on first night of riding the C&O from Cumberland to Washington DC. Very short and convenient location off of the C&O trail. Bill & Darlene Smith were warm and friendly hosts and nice to talk with. The property is beautiful and well kept. VERY CYCLIST FRIENDLY including latest copies of Bike and Bicycling magazines in the room! ....

We stayed here at our stop off the C&O Canal and found it to be wonderful. They met us in the parking lot, let us hose off our bikes and stowed them safely in the shed. It is only one block off the trail, close to dining and the awesome bike shop. The rooms were very clean and they could...

We stayed with Bill (Darlene was away on family business) in October 2015 whilst cycling the C and O from Cumberland to DC. Bill's breakfast, muffins, biscuits and welcome are fabulous. This is the most luxurious and yet welcoming B and B I've ever stayed in. Highly recommended. Tip for cyclists: follow the directions and cycle around to the back...

This was my third visit to the 1828 Trail Inn and, as usual, it was wonderful. The house is an elegant 19th century building, furnishings are gracious, the breakfast is excellent and hearty (perfect if you will be spending the day on the bike trail) and the owners give you a warm welcome.

My husband had been here before when cycling the C & O Canal path and raved so we decided to come and visit. The welcome was warm and friendly, the house delightful and festive for Christmas. Our hosts were helpful and informative. Everything was spotless and comfortable. The breakfast - and I am not really much of a breakfast person...

This is an excellent B&B. The Inn is very clean - in fact, its immaculate. Darlene is an awesome host and Bill's breakfast and muffins are to die for ! We will definately stay there again next year for geocaching, biking the trail and kayaking the river.

We stayed in the Hancock Suite and it was lovely! We had comfy beds, jacuzzi tub and shower and it was wonderfully quiet. Darlene and Bill were fabulous hosts and made us feel like we were at home. The snacks when we arrived were perfect! We had the most wonderful breakfast! We were so filled we had to take our...

My husband and I stayed at the 1828 Trail Inn last month when we bicycled from Washington DC to Pittsburgh. Darlene and Bill are gracious hosts and they had everything two tired bike riders could want. We arrived too late for the cheese and crackers, but there were homemade brownies and cold drinks waiting for us when we got in....
