What a great room! Such attention to details. Not just one bar of soap and one shampoo but a little basket of multiples. The "night light" was an LED tree which matched the tree theme in the room. The refrigerator was larger than you get in most hotels and had a microwave. The Keurig included hot chocolate which I had never seen in other hotels. The room was clean and the staff very pleasant. Made our stay enjoyable while in Oakland, Maryland.

The Oakland Motel & staff are great. Clean, comfortable rooms. Very nice location in town, near everything including stores, restaurants and more. Especially liked the room decor, very tasteful Americana.

This is a stellar little hotel right in the heart of Oakland. Despite our late arrival, the owner was supremely accommodating and the entire experience was really wonderful. If you are passing through Oakland, check this spot out. You won't be disappointed.

So many people gave this motel such good scores, we almost reserved it a second time for our return trip a few days later. I am glad we did not. First some information about the town itself. Even in the summer, it is nearly impossible to get breakfast here except on the weekend. You have your choice between a Denny's, (we stopped visiting them years ago because each and every one has been absolutely terrible), or Mickey D's and other fast-food joints (and they are all crowded at breakfast time). In addition, at least for us, there is absolutely no cell phone service anywhere in the town. When I did a Web search on my laptop for Oakland's cell service, it was claimed they had AT&T service. Well, not on our phones. What was good about the Oakland Motel: Friendly clerk at check-in who allowed us into our rooms nearly 2 hours early. The room was clean and big enough. In addition to a microwave and coffee pot with the usual, there was a toaster (oddly, there also was a notice stating "no cooking in rooms"). Parking is right at the door to your room. Sink water pressure was very good. There was a second sink outside the bathroom. Shower water pressure was better than most hotels and inns. The new shower stall also had a good number of "shelves" for soap, shampoo, etc. The bathroom light was very good (the wife liked that). Internet speed was decent at 10 Mbps down and 13 Mbps up. The negatives: Room itself (aside from the bathroom) was very poorly lit. There was only one bedside table or nightstand and the light on it was very low wattage. The only table was high and using a laptop meant sitting on a high, backless stool to use it. There was no other chair in the room. The large screen TV was set to fill only 2/3 of the screen (very odd). There was no closet, only a hanging fabric thing for storing clothes. A window air conditioner and a dehumidified sitting on the floor were very loud, but we turned them off before going to bed and back on in the morning. Traffic on the main road that runs through town was very loud all night as the motel is so close to the road. We did not get a good night's sleep.

Roy C, you had a pretty bad experience it looks like. Unfortunately, I didn't receive any word from you about what was so wrong to give me a chance to fix it. When you checked in, I did state that if there is anything wrong with the room, please tell me so I can try to fix it. I can't give you a great experience if I only find out after the fact. The rooms are advertised very clearly of what is in them along with pictures. Thank you.

Very Pleased with our stay. We booked last minute on Priceline.com and did not know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised! The Owners left the light on for us and stayed in constant contact by phone or text. The Decor was beautiful, the bed was comfy, the room was spotless. Highly recommend

We stayed in the queen suite which was recently renovated and is really nice. Bed was very comfortable and room extra clean. Owner was very accommodating for our unusual request. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend. Also within walking distance of several restaurants.

After reading reviews on tripadvisor I decided to book our stay at the Oakland Motel. I was a little apprehensive because we usually stay with the larger chains. I asked to see the room first and Brent, the owner didn't hesitate to accomodate my request. He did say while he was opening the door that I would not find a cleaner room and he was right. I am so glad we stayed here, it is a wonderful little inn. Spotlessly clean and absolutely nothing that I could have asked for or improved upon. We asked for restaurant recommendations and he was very helpful in helping us choose where we went for dinner. The El Canelo was 1/2 mile away and a very good dinner. Don't hesitate to book this inn, you will be glad you did! Thank you Brent.

There are several advantages of staying in a family owned motel, compared to a chain like Days Inn. To start with, at the Oakland Motel, the rooms have been customized—no similar cookie-cutter appearance to each room. Our room, for example, had a fishing motif. One of the other rooms even has a baby grand piano. Another advantage is personal attention. The owner, Brent, stopped by several times during our stay to see how we were doing, and to ask if we needed anything. Our room was a decent size, and had a king size bed, which was comfortable. With a few exceptions, the room was furnished pretty well. We had a large credenza which provided closet and dresser space, along with a 32” LCD TV. The room had a small frig, along with a microwave. There were plenty of coffee and tea supplies, along with a roll of paper towels. There were a few small end tables, which had little fishing ‘doo-dads’ on them. While they added to the ambiance of the room, having the space on these end tables for our stuff would have been helpful. Only one chair was provided, and a second chair would have helped. Providing a box of tissues would have been beneficial, too. I do want to spend a moment and talk about the rug. The Oakland Motel did a great job of keeping the room, including the carpet, clean. In comparison, my wife and I had been in a luxury entry-level hotel in Ocean City back in late June. We wore our socks there while walking around the room, and they were extremely dirty each day. We didn’t see anything on our socks here, which shows how carefully the rooms are cleaned. Good job! While the sleeping/living area was pretty much up to date, I can’t say the same about the bathroom. It was clean, but in need of a facelift. There was little counter space, which could have been helped by having a shelf, and there was a good-sized crack in the floor. Adding a hook to the back of the bathroom door would have helped. The prices were very reasonable too, so I felt the Oakland Motel represents a good value. The motel checks most of the right boxes, so if you’re going to visit the Oakland or Deep Creek Lake area, you should consider staying here.

My family had a last minute change in our travel plans and needed a place to stay. This little gem of a motel came up in our search and we were soooo happy we were able to stay here. Since we are a family of 4, I rented two double rooms (on more weird sleeping configurations with teenagers) on Bookings. Let's start with my only concerns as a city dweller: door locks. Specifically, deadbolts. As a security conscientious parents, I like to be able to lock our doors to feel safe and secure. Both rooms had keyed locks in the door knob (for your room key) and deadbolt locks. However, both of the deadbolt's locking tumblers were removed and each of the door jambs were in need of some repair. Now, I can imagine how it came to be and even understand why it still is, but it is a little disconcerting to see the damage. Of course, we were able to get over it, as we have stayed in accommodations all over the world that had similar 'door situations'. Why is my rating a Very Good?? I think the accommodations, services, staff, and locations were all very good. The hotel staff tries to support your every desire. I reserved two doubles on Bookings, but wanted a single bed for my wife and I. At check-in, I was moved to a King Room. I was happy for the change, but I was also impressed that my request was remembered and honored some 5-days later and acted on. The check-in process was smooth and easy. The staff is full of helpful information and we were given a local map, magazines and information about the attractions. Our rooms were very clean, comfortable and tidy. The themes were a great touch. My kids thought they had the better room. The small window AC units maintained what I thought was refrigerator cold room temps. Especially at night, we turned our to the less cool setting. There is a small refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave in the rooms with enough counter space to easily prepare meals. We used them for lunch. Besides the doors, the rooms showed no wear and tear. The carpets are clean, everything work. The beds are supper comfortable and when you close the curtains, the rooms are blackout dark at night. I thought the rooms were recently refurbished, because everything was well appointed. The bathrooms were very clean. New windows and a brand new shower stall. The towels were plush and very absorbent. You can walk to downtown Oakland in just a couple of minutes and have easy access to shopping. The big box store is just down the road, but you can walk to at least 4 restaurants, the Sheetz gas station and the Sunoco/7-11 in another. We did spend a good deal of time on the lake. It was only a 10-15 minute drive to the Uno's Pizza restaurant (if you know where that is located).
