As I have a reservation pending in August, received a "flash sale" email for this past weekend, in which it was such a great rate I couldn't pass up. As such , it was relatively quiet which was quite enjoyable. And also, Jack the black Labrador was manning the front desk.

Ahaha! Jack is usually lying down on the job so you were lucky to catch him actually working for a change! How lovely that you came, and we look forward to welcoming you here in the summer. Thank you for posting. We appreciate you for doing so, and we send kind regards and a paw print. More

This was our first visit and hopefully won't be our last! The room was cozy. My daughter and I came to visit a school for 1 night. Loved our stay. Restaurant was great! if its not sold out you should come for a visit. Our room was above the bar and people were there late night so there was a... More

We are glad you loved your stay, but we are so sorry noise drifted up and bothered you a bit. How kind of you to be so understanding. There is a soundproofing barrier between Champney's and the floor above so we don't hear of sounds of conviviality drifting up, but it sounds as if folks at the bar were having... More

Just loved the location in the middle of historic Deerfield. Quiet and lots of nature. Dinner was just OK in our opinion. Caesar salad appesred to be stored in fridge with dressing on it. Inn very clean and everyone very nice. Nice bar. Summers must be really nice there.

Yikes! We have a scratch kitchen and we make everything to order as the requests come in on the printers. I wonder if I can work out who you are and when you stayed so I can query the Chef on this Caesar salad comment. We all try to put our best foot forward at all times, but it sounds... More

Beautiful rooms, wonderful, friendly hospitality. Clean well appointed rooms. Great breakfast options. One of my top favorite inns in New England. Book early to avoid disappointment, seasonal meals on porch.

One of your favorite inns - how delightful! Thank you for saying that; it means a lot to us. The porch railings have been painted and the deck touched up, and we were feeling all set to get the tables and chairs out and then.... a downpour! Have to go with the flow with this New England weather! Hope to... More

In one of the oldest colonial settlements in the Ct River valley the Inn is situated quietly off Rte 3 in Old Deerfield village; traditionally decorated rooms, nice restaurant and bar, which serves a made to order breakfast that's worth the wait. They don't mind last minute calls if you're in the area, and sometimes can offer quite competitive rates;... More

Yes indeed! This whole village is a National Historic Landmark, which is really special to us. We are delighted to get last-minute walk-ins if travelers are on the road and looking for a way station to rest their weary selves and have a good dinner before lights out. The rate is very special! Thanks for mentioning it for us! Hope... More

From the gracious welcome, to afternoon tea, scrumptious and abundance farm-to-table meals with immaculate and well-appointed rooms, and across the street from my now new favorite Historic Deerfield, a diamond in the rough for colonial history lovers. There is nothing more I could have asked for..except more time to visit.

Sorry about the Give Me a Tax Break snafu. We do have one very part time lady at the front desk and she might not have been up to speed because of that, but it sounds as if it all worked out in the end. She must have jumped on to the site to take a shufti! Glad you could... More

The location and staff are wonderful, wine steward patient and friendly, breakfast was delicious. Area to invest in: hot water even at peak hours. Water was numbingly frosty after 4-5 minutes of running hot water only.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Deerfield Inn first opened in July 1884 while both a drought and grasshoppers were plaguing the village. The disasters went, but the guests stayed for "the atmosphere and charm of early days, with modern comfort and convenience" with breakfast starting at 30¢ and a room with running water from $1.50. Today we have 24 comfortable and pleasing guestrooms and farm-to-fork Champney's Restaurant & Tavern. We source locally, make our own infusions, support area microbrewers, and in our 131st year we remain the centerpiece of Old Deerfield, a National Historic Landmark, and a Select Registry Property. ... more   less
