I was looking to travel to the Berkshires for just one night with my dog (a 50 pound lab mix). This motel was dog friendly and wasn't charging a pet fee (like other hotels in the area were) so I thought I'd give it a try. I was very pleasantly surprised that it was perfect for our needs. Very clean, in a great location between two little towns, you could park right outside your door, and there was plenty of open, grassy space for me to walk my dog. Check in was contactless, but very easy. I do wish more information had been provided about check out. Check out was also contactless, but I wasn't sure of the procedure and I wasn't aware that the lobby didn't open until 7:30 AM (I am an early riser and was out the door before 7:00 AM). You also can get a breakfast voucher for the hotel (The Red Lion Inn) down the street. The voucher is provided at The Red Lion Inn so you don't actually have to get it at the Briarclff (which I didn't know). Just be aware that the breakfast is a sit down breakfast (not a typical hotel breakfast buffet). Because I had my dog with me, they were nice enough to package my breakfast to go. I would definitely stay at the Briarcliff again if I am ever back in that area!

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a thoughtful and informative review. Since we have had several information updates during the everchanging times of COVID we are in the process of updating our Breakfast/Room information once again. We do have a 24 hour number for questions posted in the rooms and on our lobby front door for additional information. We are grateful that you were able to travel and stay here with your pet. Because it is our experience that happy owners have happy pets.

My husband and I just had a wonderful stay at the. Briarcliff Motel in Great Barrington. The motel is beautifully set back off a main road just a short few minutes drive from downtown. The property provides a firepit with seating and smores upon request. Continental breakfast is included. The rooms were simply stated but spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The biggest highlight for us is that the property isn’t just dog friendly but truly embraces our pups! There is no added pet fee which is typically unheard of and they also allow you to leave your pet in the room if they are well behaved which allowed for my husband and I to have an enjoyable stress free dinner both evenings. Daisy enjoyed running around the hills behind the property and settled in quickly to the room. Lastly the property manager Rhonda, also a dog owner, was the perfect balance of being available for questions or socialization while not being remotely overbearing, Check in/out is self service with a code your receive at check in time so if privacy is your preference this property certainly provides this. We loved GB and the surrounding Berkshire area and will definitely be back to the Briarcliff!

This place has all of the basics for a comfortable, convenient stay. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was ample. Most importantly, the Briarcliff has an unbeatable location - across the street from Monument Mountain and minutes to Great Barrington and Stockbridge, you have the best of the Berkshires right at your fingertips. Combine all of this with the wonderful, hospitable innkeeper, Rhonda, and you will be set up for a good stay at a reasonable price point. Be sure to take advantage of the cozy fire pits at night - this was a highlight for us. We plan to return!

We booked the hotel due to the bright and airy pictures portrayed on the websites. However, our room 14 was not one of the renovated rooms. The remote didn't work so we couldn't watch anything besides the channel it was set on. The cabinet was extremely damaged on top and was unsightly. The toilet seat was damaged and they tried to repair the Crack , instead of buying an entirely new seat. The door to the room adjoining room also had a huge crack and and small coth was placed on it like a band aide. It's unfortunate the price of this room is the same as the others ones depicted on the website, the condition of this room shouldn't cost more than $150 even in the busy season.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We appreciate guest feedback of any kind as it helps us to improve the guest experience. We have since updated the top on the open wardrobe, and will continue to update our rooms to maintain the vintage retro vibe that is Briarcliff Motel. .

The website pictures and reviews did not match our experience. The room smelled of mildew, the comforter was ripped, the tops of the night stands were chipped/peeling and the toilet had a cracked seat and mold. The linens seemed to be clean and the carpet vacuumed. We spent as little time in the room as possible.

There are breakfast options, but you need to be ok with communal large containers of yogurt and cereal.

The location was convenient and we did a great hike at Monument Mountain, which is walkable from the motel.

Long story short, the Briarcliff was not the place for us.

Hello!
I have to say that this little gem in GB is the best place to stay in the area. Not only is it dog friendly but the host is a straight up awesome hostetss with the mostess. The rooms are clean the property is well maintained and you can't beat a free breakfast treat (muffins) and a cup of joe in the mornings. I've been there a couple of times and both experiences have been well received. It's in the perfect location in the beautiful Berkshires. You have downtown Great Barrington down the road with little places to nosh along thee way and then you have Lenox, MA around the way as well. I highly recommend a stay here. Comfy clean rooms and a very cool staff that are more than happy to help with fresh clean towels and great recommendations to any hiking or fun eating spots. Have a great time! I'll definitely be back soon!!!! Thank you Rhonda!

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review. We truly appreciate our guests and their feedback. We are proud to be the "pet friendliest" place to stay in the Berkshires. We are perfectly located across from Monument Mountain for a hike and just a short drive to Main Street in Great Barrington or Stockbridge. Lenox is only 15 minutes away and offers many places to shop and eat. We again thank you for your kind words.

We stayed in February 2021 and booked a the King Bed Room. The bed was comfortable, very clean room and funky design. Nice small sitting area in the room which was great for hanging out. I LOVED the view out the front windows since its across from Monument mountain. The motel is right off the route 7 but set far back that you don't really hear the road noise.

I liked the Simple Human dispensers in the showers - such a great idea to reduce single use and travel size toiletries.

Rhonda is a superstar, she is the innkeeper and she was friendly and attentive to our requests. We stayed for 4 nights and requested fresh towels on our 3rd night and they were delivered promptly.

Having the Red Lion Inn as a sister property was a bonus, we did dine at the RLI and enjoyed the fire-pit outside too.

I returned again in April 2021 and had a fantastic visit. Would recommend as a great no-frills motel. Great value! We will return.

Best family stay ever! We even got to include our family dog!
The rooms are very clean and cozy and can be connected. The continental breakfast was vast, from danishes and donuts to granola, fresh fruit and yogurt. Coffee options included almond milk and oat milk, both family favorites in our house. The innkeeper, Rhonda, is welcoming and very accommodating in a convenient way, in that all you may need is already waiting conveniently or steps away at the front office. We also loved the fire pit and our kids took advantage of the complimentary s’mores kits. Our dog enjoyed some sneak graham crackers too! The view is also amazing and tucked away from the road, which made the rooms quiet at night and felt safe to walk our dog. Then, when we were too tired to do more outdoor fun, the WiFi worked without glitching so we could watch our favorite picks with our fire stick.
This weekend stay soothed away all the stress from the work week. Highly recommend this place for a getaway!

There was no table in the room. No place to put my laptop. There is no counter space in the bathroom. No place for toiletries or tooth brush. There are two unusable chairs in the room so low that getting up required extra effort. They never cleaned the room or replaced the towels. We had to buy additional toilet paper. There is a main building with a table. They locked it and made it clear that we are not allowed to use it. We booked and paid for 6 nights we left after 4 nights. One star is too many.

Had an excellent stay. The innkeeper, Rhonda was awesome. Covid safe, clean rooms, great location—quiet but close drive to Butternut and into town. Rooms could use a little update and towels were not soft and fluffy but, cleanliness, friendliness and location far outweighed everything else.

Check in was a breeze with combo electric keypad. Lobby closed right now so we received meal vouchers for Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge. Lunch there was excellent, best New England clam chowder I have had in years!

I will be returning!

We are so glad you enjoyed our location. We pride ourselves on being close to everything but also just far enough away for some privacy. Thank you so much for staying with us! Is there a lake nearby for swimming?
Answer from ClareBriar

Sorry, I only just saw this: there are a lot of great lake-swimming spots nearly. We like Benedict Pond, which is open to all and has a small sandy beach and picnic facilities (you can even buy a small bundle of firewood and make a little campfire) - about ten minutes from the motel. Lake Mansfield, which is in Great Barrington itself, is where the local kids learn to swim, and is a great family destination.
