We stayed at Honcho Rest for 3 months this summer and really enjoyed it. It's one of the best run, well kept campgrounds we've been to. The owners are super nice brothers that "take care of business" and work hard to keep the campground well maintained. The campground is located on Bass Lake (a small fishing lake), 1 mile from... Lots of trees for shade, quiet, driving slow at 5 mph is strongly encouraged. On a small lake, near Elk Lake, Torch Lake, and Grand Traverse Bay. Close to groceries and fuel, close to nice town of Elk Rapids, and close to Pearl's, a great restaurant. Has a laundry we did not need to use, has ice on site. Has... More

If you're looking for a campground with central access to Traverse City, Elk Rapids, Torch Lake, and Bellaire, Honcho Rest is it! It is primarily an RV park (I think they even say they don't want tents) so it has a lot of amenities that regular tent camping sites don't offer: electricity, wi-fi, tv hookup, laundry, private bathrooms with showers.... We have visited Honcho Rest regularly for several years and it has become one of our favorite up north destinations. If you are a boater, there is no better area than Elk Rapids - 1 mile from nice launches on the bay and Elk and about a 10 minute drive to launch at the Torch Sandbar. It is also very... More

Clean campground and showers/bathrooms. Full hookup was good. Sites were too close for my taste. Quiet hours were respected. Lake is pretty cool. Don't remember it being dirty. Close proximity to other lakes and shopping/activities is the real draw to Honcho rest for us. Overall good experience other than the old man about 3 sites from the office always yelling... More

Enjoyed our stay even with a grumpy old camper who shouted "slow down" all the time! Anyone who stays there has to know this character. We ended up finding him endearing by the end of our stay! We brought our bikes and rode into town and fished the lakes.

Thank you for the review of our Campground, constructive reviews help us get a better as a staff. We are aware that clean and tidy bathrooms are a major factor when considering a Campground. We apologize you did share the same experience that other campers have had with our bathroom facilities. As a staff we clean and stock the bathrooms... More

We stayed here in a pop-up camper from July 19-21. It is small campground with tight spots, most of which were occupied with permanent camper-homes. Surprisingly it was quiet at night. It was a good location for going into Elk Rapids and Traverse City and easy to come and go, whether in the car or on bikes. For as clean... More

Stayed here from Aug 15-18th. If you are looking for a place to park your camper and explore the surrounding area then this campground is perfect. If you are looking to stick around the campground all day then this is not the place for you. I say this because the campground is cramped, well maintained, but cramped. Many of the... More

We were so excited to visit Honcho Rest Campground in Elk Rapids, MI. When we pulled up, the campers were very close together. No privacy at all, and the staff were very rude. We were very upset, and visited other campgrounds and found 2 very nice private kid friendly campgrounds. The pictures on their website don't tell the true story.... More

We decided to stay in one of the cabins they offer after making last minute plans to Elk Rapids. From check in to check out, the stay was GREAT! The cabins were built in 2011 and provided more than enough space for our family of three to stay at night. Location close to the bathhouse was a plus. The bathhouse... More
