We appreciated the clean room and nice mattresses. The room includes a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. However, the motel no longer offers a complimentary breakfast. You have to go down to the store in Mayfield for breakfast. Otherwise I would rate this motel as very good.
We stayed overnight on our way out of town-TC and the gentleman who checked us in was super friendly! We travel with a small dog and they are pet friendly. Our room was pretty large with 2 double beds, the decor was pretty woodsy with pine beds and accessories. The front desk does close after the last people check in so there is no one around. There are a few rooms that are rented on a weekly/monthly basis so the traffic noise is pretty noticeable. It had snowed pretty heavily a couple of nights before we got there and the parking lot was plowed but a bit slippery in spots if you were walking your dog etc...it does get very busy traffic in the morning so leave early if you can! There is very limited places to eat in Kingsley and take-out is your only option currently. The gas station next door has a small pizza/sandwich shop so no need to go too far.…
The room wasn’t bad but didn’t have blackout curtains and didn’t get dark until probably 10pm. What made the experience horrible for me is that they did not check my id (left the key for me in a lock box) and the rooms just have normal deadbolts, no top/sliding lock or anything. Normal key for the deadbolt and no (reprogrammable) card entry. Not to mention my four year old would have been able to unlock and walk right out of the room on his own had I not been watching... not the best for someone with young kids. There was also a domestic dispute going on right next door to us at 3am and a lady called for “help” multiple times from OUTSIDE in the parking lot? (I wasn’t about to look out there) near our door, so I called the police. I was staying there by myself with my son on vacation and felt completely unsafe even after the police arrived because of the lock situation. Definitely staying at major hotel corporations from now on that take better safety precautions. Pretty sure I have a bit of PTSD from my stay because that incident in the middle of the night was so traumatic!…
I was totally impressed with this motel. The room was large, included frig and microwave, and super clean. We were greeted by a really nice, no nonsense guy, who was expecting us and presented us with our room keys immediately. The motel sets off the road in a quiet location. The bed was really comfortable, and I had a perfect nights sleep. What more can you ask for??
I thought the rates here were a little pricey but the Kingsley Motel was much cheaper to stay at than the Econo Lodge in S. Traverse City. The rooms were comfortable but the customer service is what gained them the EXCELLENT rating. Thanks Kingsley Motel for going above and beyond!
Very nice place just a few miles outside of Traverse City. Desk person (Rich?) is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are very clean and look freshly decorated. They even have lawn games you can use, plus a fire pit with wood and lighter fluid furnished. I would gladly stay here again!
I booked a room for my brother for a Saturday night as he was driving from the UP to help my son who had just moved to TC and are renting a place in Kingsley. He said the room was very clean, Rich was very nice and he enjoyed his stay. The one negative was the bed was a bit softer than his liking so next tine he would request a room with a firmer bed if that’s available. But overall he gave it a 5 star for location and cleanliness. Could use more outlets as stated in another review but once again it’s older so that’s to be expected. He said he’d definitely stay there again. Great job Rich!
I can’t remember if I’ve ever stayed at a motel in the past, so I didn’t know what to expect. On TripAdvisor, there were a few negative reviews of the Kingsley, but the vast majority were positive. Anyone considering staying at the Kingsley should ignore the negative reviews. This is a nice motel. It is a bit off the beaten path, which is a good thing because it is very quiet. The location is not so remote that you are too far from restaurants, shopping and activities. We drove into downtown Traverse City for dinner and the trip takes about twenty minutes. The gentleman in the office was polite, friendly and professional. Since prepayment is required, check-in literally took two minutes. The rooms are very clean and adequately appointed. The room is equipped with a mini-fridge, microwave oven, and coffee maker. The furnishings are attractive. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows are a bit stiff. If there are any shortcomings, it is the lack of electrical outlets in the room, and that it takes a while to for the water to warm in the bathroom. I realize this isn’t necessarily a motel that caters to business travel (which is why I was here), but people travel with a lot of electrical devices these days, and I needed an outlet near the bed for my CPAP. I suspect the lack of outlets has to do with the age of the building. Also, I needed to run the water in the bathroom for about ten minutes before it ran hot; which seems a little excessive. I only stayed for one night, but I have no complaints about the Kingsley Motel and would not hesitate to stay here again in the future for business or leisure travel.…
We were tired, it was late and dark. We didn't feel like driving the few more miles to TC. This place was like a beacon in the night and Rich who runs it was really nice. He's definitely a character. The room was very comfortable and clean. We had a nice big bathroom and in the morning we had a nice October snow shower. What a great place.
Kingsley isn't a very big town. When you plug Fast Break Lane into your GPS, it won't tell you that the road, such as it is, is really a part of the motel parking lot. There's a gas station right across the way from it.The turn off into the motel is JUST before you get to the ingress to the gas station. I'll mention that in a few moments. This motel is obviously an older, drive up and park in front of your room type. Nevertheless, it is clean, appears to have been remodeled in the recent past, and has a very large bathroom. We came into the office still wet from the downpour we'd driven through, and Rich provided us an extra towel to allow our rain gear to drip dry. He had a few other guests come in later. Rich did something I wish all other motels that have the room would do...he put everyone in a room separated by empty ones. Meaning we didn't have to hear the next door neighbors! The refrigerator in the room was loud, so we turned it down to low and that shut it up. We didn't need the heater, even though it was turning cold. I have a few complaints: there were only two lamps in the entire room, one next to the bed and one on the other side of the room, near the door. Both were utterly useless for reading, which is what we do when we're on the road. Because I couldn't read comfortably, I tried to figure out how the TV worked. Nope. I'm too old and we don't have a teenager to work things for us. The road noise on the road was fairly loud and constant until night time. It takes a WHILE for the water to get hot in the shower, and what perplexed me most (until I figured it out) was the sink faucet. The hot and cold controls are reversed, meaning the hot is on the RIGHT. Once I figured that out, things were fine. The bathroom was absolutely spotlessly clean, the towels were generous and thirsty, and the bed was comfortable. There is no restaurant that we could see near the motel, so we walked across the road to the gas station. There is a reasonably good deli inside where my husband got a very nice sandwich, 'much better than a Subway". I wish Rich all the best. His motel is the best place to stay in a very long while.…
