My wife and I stayed 2 nights. We are 73 and 74 year old seniors with a third floor room. 42 steps to the room and no elevator and no warning. The room had a double bed. There was no ice available. There was a coffee maker but no coffee pods. No hooks in bathroom to hang clothes. Small area around sink to place toiletries. No holes in toilet paper rolls so you had to unroll it by hand. No plastic bags for dirty clothes and no hangers. We might stay again if we were on the first floor and these other items were taken care of and we got a bigger bed (at least a queen). Nicely decorated and the heating, cooling worked fine. Good downtown location. Great coffee shop across the street. No service at front desk.

Hotel Sterling was a wonderful place to stay while visiting Monroe. Within walking distance to coffee shop, bakery, restaurants and Farmers Market. Hotel was very clean and had a great layout. We had a lot of room. Ours was a two level room with bedroom/bath upstairs and living room kitchenette downstairs. Mini fridge was stocked with variety of complementary drinks. Snacks were in the room as well. We would stay there again!

Worst night ever at a hotel! No one at the desk when we checked in, another guest told us to grab the envelope on the desk. No room number and no answer when I called the hotel twice. We literally had to go to every single room and try the key, the last room on the 3rd floor it worked! Mind you my fiancee is 7 months pregnant it’s very warm in the hallways on this humid hot day... finally get into the room it’s a queen bed not a king like we were told/expecting. We leave for dinner and come back to our keys not working And then call three times before someone answers and let them know what’s going on and then he told me to go down to the lobby to get new keys, so I went downstairs waited over five minutes and no one showed up so I go back up three flights of stairs get my phone and call them back for him to tell me I was supposed to call him when I get down to the lobby. SMH back down 3 stories of stairs and he then gave me instructions on how to get into a lock box behind the desk to get a key for the room And then go back up three flights of stairs and that key doesn’t work either. Guy on the phone says he will have someone there in a minute, 15 minutes later a nice young lady comes up there with a master key and cannot get in as well. We are in the hallway for another 15 minutes and she tells us that they can’t get in right now that they will give us another room across the hall (the room that we were supposed to have to begin with) until they can solve this problem. 10 minutes later They inform us that they cannot get into the room at all tonight and we have to wait till the morning so now we are in another room with all our possessions in the room we cannot get into it until tomorrow morning when they can get someone here to get the door unlocked. All our clothes, phone chargers, food & drinks are all in there and my fiancé has all work stuff in there for tomorrow morning. Hopefully they get it open so she can be to work on time.. we left and came home. Unbelievable smh

We were so pleasantly surprised and impressed with this cool little hotel. Many rooms have living spaces and well appointed bar areas with a fridge stocked with great breakfast items. Newly remodeled bathrooms - nice finishes all around and super clean. Highly recommend!

We have stayed here two times. The rooms are large, the beds are oh so comfortable and the walk in showers are large and the towels are plush. The in-room courtesy bar offers water, juice, milk, coffee, cereals, etc. at no charge. It's a very quiet hotel. We will definitely stay again, and again, and again! Also, it's not expensive to stay at such a lovely place!

This hotel is very relaxing and quiet. Huge rooms, very clean bathrooms and comfortable chairs and beds. We prefer boutique hotels to chains and this one exceeded our expectations. The stocked fridge and location make it fabulous! Restaurants, bars, parks, safe walking, coffee house, window shopping complete the fabulous list. Check in was very simple. This is the only place we will stay when visiting Monroe again.

We got in 9 hours after expected. Check in was a breeze (there was an envelope with our name on the desk in the lobby). The room was really quite nice and we didn’t notice any street noise. The place is listed as a B&B however...(see photo). It is a short walk to other eateries however. We actually didn’t see another person at the place! It is nice enough to stay at again but you need to be able to manage stairs w your luggage.

Repeat customers. This last time we found the pillows "wimpy" and sheets old & worn. Both really should be replaced. On a postive note, will say the room was very clean & quiet and the breakfast bar offerings were generous. May stay there again.

My husband and I like to stay in more unique hotels/b&bs and we were driving through Monroe, so decided to stay here for one night. It was odd not seeing anyone at the desk upon check in and check out, but everything went smoothly. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated, although more local or historic charm would make them more distinctive. The location is great, close to downtown and a short walk to the riverside park across the street. The rooms have included beverages, snacks and breakfast items, which is a nice touch. The only complaints are that the street that runs outside the hotel is somewhat noisy and there are street lights that cast an orange glow in the room. We did not hear noise from other rooms, but were awakened about 4am by the noise of a torrential downpour on the roof...lol! Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

We loved our two nights at the Hotel Sterling! It is a beautiful, private downtown hotel, mostly on the second and third floors of historic buildings. The bed was more comfortable than most hotels, the rooms are all spacious, and the staff is very accommodating. Our family had three of the rooms during the weekend, and they even set up a pack-and-play for my sister's toddler. The housekeeper was very friendly and helped us out. On top of that, the prices are reasonable for what you get. We will definitely be returning the next time we visit people in Monroe.
