Detailed Reviews
I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Austria. The staff are very friendly, everything is extremely clean, the included breakfast was delicious and plentiful, shower works well and has hot/cold water, wifi works well, and there is a comfortable outdoor sitting space with comfy hammock to relax in. It is also in a perfect location - only one block from central park and Cathedral. It is very peaceful and quiet. Definitely recommend!

+1
Functional, good clean but basic hotel situated about 5 minutes walk from central square. Rooms were adequate we had 2 double beds in ours, but one side was right up against the wall so you had to climb over the bed to get out.
Hairdryer in room, no pool but a nice seating area undercover outside.
Breakfast was good, cooked to order - Eggs, Beans, tea/coffee, toast - all served with military precison by one gentleman staff member. He could teach a few of the other hotels we had stopped at how to serve a meal promptly!
Staff were helpful and friendly, overall a good stay.

Stayed here for 3 nights while visiting Leon. The room was small but functional and both the AC and hot water works well. Only issue was the WiFi which was really bad in the room unless you use the network right outside the courtyard near reception.

Rooms around a central garden with water feature. Fairly basic but comfortable. Good breakfast cooked fresh for everyone. Central location, but still managed to get confused with layout around Cathedral to return to hotel! Lovely square, but be careful of the homeless. An interesting guided tour including the chocolate factory.

We spent a couple of nights in March as we hosted an event (also within the hotel). Everything is very clean. The personnel is friendly. The event itself was well executed. Overall a good experience. We'll be staying here if we ever come back to Leon.

Such an ideal location, only one block from the central town park. This the ideal home base to explore Leon's delightful sights.
Air conditioning works well, and this is essential for such a hot town. Beds are very comfortable and all the basic amenities are fine.
Breakfasts are fine with coffee about par for Nicaragua. Friendly service staff are very helpful.

We selected Hotel Austria for its location. It's a block away from the Cathedral and walking distance to most other sites in Leon. Great attention was given to keeping the entire property clean. Each day we returned to our room, we could see and smell the evidence of the cleaning staff having visited. The continental breakfast offerred in the cost of the room was toast, juice and coffee. Other options were available at an extra charge. Slow Internet and cold beverages were also available for an additional cost. All additional charges are put on your room bill to be paid upon departure. The staff was pleasant and smiling upon your daily departure and arrival. However, their assitance in making daily arrangements, advice or travel information was minimal.

To be perfectly frank, I had a few other Hotel choices in mind when we arrived in Leon based on rates. The Taxista did not know where these hotels were so when we passed Hotel Austria I said stop and we'll just stay one night here and find the others tomorrow. Well, one night turned into three ! Here's why: professional looking and responsive staff, Doorman to keep out the riff-raff, clean stem to stern, quality furniture (no particle board glued together crap here), Breakfast included, one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in, hot water (this is Nicaragua and hot water is virtually non-existent) and location. If you're visiting Leon, this is an excellent choice for your vacation Headquarters.

Hotel Austria was a great experience. It is as you might expect a small hotel with alot of charm. From the house dog to the pleasant staff. The rooms are nice with great airconditioning and good bathrooms. It also has a resturant and you can have a beer in the lobby on your way out for less than a dollar. The staff is good with directions too. Leon is a quaint town with plenty to see and do. Go to the El Convent for a wonderful meal you won't be sorry!

Our travel agent booked us into the Hotel Austria when the highly rated ElConvento was not available (we took a look at that place and it was definitely a cut above the Austria in elegance and atmosphere). We ended up being pleased with our two night stay at the Austria. The place doesn't look like much from the street, but inside there is a pleasant courtyard full of well tended plants, and a clean, comfortable dining room where air conditioning can be turned on as needed later in the day. We had breakfast there each day and lunch once. Only continental breakfast is included in the reasonable room rates, but additional items can be added at a low cost (for example, a cheese omelette was $2.00). The rooms themselves were spacious, with tile floors and nice quality wooden furniture, including a set of chairs and a table where you could sit and have a drink, in addition to the desk and wardrobe corner. Internet access was available and worked well. The air conditioning was a little noisy but effective, very much needed in April when we visited.
You can walk from the Austria to all the attractions of Leon, including many restaurants.
