My family and I stay at GWL 3-4 times a year but this time we had a "free" pass for donating to Toys for Tots. Upon walking in and showing the gentleman behind the desk our passes, he rolled his eyes and acted as if we were inconveniencing him. Bernard directed us to the side of the desk where he needed an ID. Since we were just using the park for maybe 45 min as my daughter is 1, I hadn't brought anything in with us. Parking near the entrance is now only available for a fee so we were parked all the way near the back. Not a problem, just would take a few minutes for me to get there and back. Off I went, and thankfully grabbed my credit card just in case. Based on his attitude I had a feeling he might try to make things difficult. I get back and he then informs us we need to purchase a locker. Whatever it takes right? But he could have told me I needed a card as well. Thankfully I did bring one with me, but I felt, (and this is just my opinion) that he did it purposefully. Because he told us the park was only open for another 2 hours after rolling his eyes at us. (like we were wasting our and his time by going) We purchased the locker and then enjoyed our time. Because we are locals and were just going swimming we had pajamas on (since it was already 6 and would be going to bed after we got home) I felt his dismissive attitude and the eye rolling really did impact me on if I want to spend money here in the future. Just because we were not "paying" guests THIS time, doesn't mean we haven't been MANY times before. I hope someone can teach Bernard that being friendly and welcoming to everyone really makes a difference. And some kids may not be able to afford to go to the park without "free" passes. To anyone who isn't able to and made to feel the way he made us feel, is not a company I'd want to support.…
The Great Wolf Lodge is a nice spot to spend a two day vacation in northern Michigan. Hopefully the weather cooperates for you on the trip up. Check in is fairly easy and comes with a pair of wolf ears. If you arrive before check in time, they will promise to have your room ready by 4:00 and they will text you when it is ready. If it is a busy day, stay by check in and ask. I waited until 4:15 and never heard anything until I went to the desk and asked. It looked like they were still cleaning some of the nearby rooms. The actual indoor waterpark is really good. There is a section for little kids with a few slides and some water table setups. There is a bigger play structure with a pair of slides that don't use an inflatable tube. There is a look that is about four feet deep that have basketball hoops. Their is a hot tub for all and a whirlpool just for adults. The lazy river is nice and while the occasional skinned knee might be had, it is wide enough to accommodate a lot of guests. The most notable parts of all though are the three big slides. The rapids ride has a big tube made for three. Alberta falls has two slides and the line moves quicker with them. If you really want scary, ride it at night and the green one will be pitch dark. As far as non-waterpark amenities, there is a whole host of activities in the main area including a wizard quest and a Singalong with characters under their big clock. They have an enchanted forest on the third floor where you can by a wand and things will turn on when you wave it. This is on the third floor. There is an arcade similar to Chuck E Cheese or Dave and Busters where you get tickets. I didn't get a chance to try out the bowling alley but it is shorter with smaller balls. Besides the enchanted wand store, there is a legitimate gift shop. The food amenities, however, are scattered throughout. While I didn't go to the official restaurant, there is a Dunkin' on the second floor. For breakfast, the prices are comparable and a good option if you are planning to make a day on site. There is also an ice cream place and a carryout pizza restaurant on the 1st floor. Inside the waterpark there wre snacks for all ages and beverages for young and old alike. The room itself is decent enough. Our room had one queen bed and a foldout couch. It wasn't too comfortable but after a long day of swimming, it absolutely does the trick. The TV has an around the clock channel playing the Great Wolf cartoon show which makes the entire facility seem a lot classier. Overall, this was time well spent. My daughter had a blast and would have stayed all day had we let her. There was plenty to keep her busy as I'm sure there will be for you. This is definitely a family vacation destination. Your kids will have a great time.…
Have two kids under 10, so we were the usual type of family to stay at a Great Wolf Lodge. Kids, of course, loved being here. I thought the water park was great and pretty well managed. Was less crazy about the room, especially for what is being charged. Don’t know if the resort was sold out but it was crowded. Partly because we stayed on a Sunday night into a MLK Holiday Monday and partly because the Northern Michigan weather was not god awful for once in the middle of January, allowing an easy drive for people to reach Traverse City. Stayed in a slightly upgraded theme room called a “kids camp.” This is a room that has a semi enclosed area for the kids with bunk beds and was themed to look like you are camping. Wish there was a curtain or door for the kids camp/bunk room and more of a separation between the rest of the room and the kids sleeping area. Sink for the room is located right across from the kids area, and the parents bed and tv are located next to the kids bunk room, so once the kids are put to bed, you have to be quiet not to wake them up. Soundproofing for the ceiling above us was poor. Could hear a ton of stomping around from whoever was above us but it did quiet down around 10 PM and was quiet throughout out the night. They also have a rule that all kids must be accompanied by an adult if they are going outside their room after 11. I think this significantly cuts down kids running in the hallway and slamming doors at night. Price for the room including taxes and fees was just over $400. This includes the ridiculous “resort fee,” so just keep in mind that the price for the room quoted on the website will be an extra $100 once you add on all the fees and taxes. Room price does include admission into the water park starting at 1 PM for the day of check in and continuing all through the next day until the water park closed. You have to check out of the room by 11 AM, but you can put your luggage in the car, and there are showers, changing rooms, and lockers in the pool area. Water park is mostly geared to kids under 12. None of the water slides are very scary or have steep drops and the three largest ones are mostly curved. Kids over 4 ft can go on all the slides by themselves and kids between 42 and 48 inches can go in all slides with an adult. If you have little kids, there are toddler sized slides and a baby/toddler pool area. Did not eat in the hotel restaurant or the pizza place inside the hotel. Downtown Traverse City is only 10 minutes away and has lots of good restaurants that are kid friendly. There are also several chain restaurants close by to the hotel.…
This was a very sad and upsetting trip for my family and I. We went to celebrate my babies ONE year birthday. Instead everything about the place went wrong. The place was very dirty. I never once seen anyone cleaning anything the whole time we were there. The room was gross and we had to clean it up. I am extremely disappointed in even going there. My whole party, 10 of us became extremely sick after leaving this place. Two of our party were even hospitalized, including my poor one year old. She was so sick! She was hospitalized for almost a week. Her hospital bill was several thousand dollars. We called to inform the waterpark that something is going around the waterpark (COVID) and they simply told us someone or a manager will call you back soon. Well guess what? No one ever called. We never got an apology or a hows your daughter doing? I’m so upset. My daughters whole birthday was ruined and the whole week after. We seen the gentlemen behind the snack counter wiping his noise and seriously itching his butt crack and then handling food. Yuck! We walked away in disgust. The woman at the gift shop was coughing all over everything and not covering. Why!? Cover at least. The staff we seen standing in the hallway near the customer service desk was talking about how her and her family tested positive for covid but she came to work anyway!!! What is going on with this place!? We tired to explain these things to the staff and we’re just basically cut off and told someone will call you. I cried for weeks because my baby was so sick and no one would even call me to discuss this or give me my money back or offer to help pay my daughters hospital bill since the staff was sick and infecting the guests. I have told so many friends and family to never go there. We had already planned to go back for my babies 2nd birthday and my oldest child’s 14th birthday, but we will not pay to have to be hospitalized or pay to be infected by staff. I can’t believe I couldn’t even get a call back. There were so many other problems with this place I didn’t even list, because my kids and family getting sick was much worse than anything else. PS I’m writing this again, because someone took my review down! Sincerely A very upset and sad guest and a One year old who almost didn’t make it to her next birthday because of your waterpark!!!! :-(…
Yesterday I worked on reserving a cabana. Called the main phone number was given 1 price. Call ip to actual resort we were going to and was told $100+ more. Altering figuring out which price and 1 left for 3 days away I was told they want a $50 deposit. I paid it. Called back main number less than 10 hours later and cancelled because I was not going. It was cancelled and they would NOT return my deposit. I was never told it was non refundable! This place has been a great place to take my family until now. I will find a new place to go. Shame on them!
When we walked in to register, it was snowing inside. We just loved our grand entrance and the trees were dancing. We couldn't wait for more. Adults and kids had their hands to the air, tongues out to catch the snow flakes. Too funny! Our room was clean, had a good view to outside {which didn't matter}. We got the big majestic 8 person room on the first floor. We had a small tent [we brought] for the younger ones to keep busy when we played games at night. Some went to the 9 p.m. dance there, they loved that too. The water park was extremely fun. The 3 yr.old got so tired. Actually they all did. There was only 2 things I had wished were different, all day. The snow only came down 5 times in the day [everyone was so busy,I guess I get it}. And the water park closed too early [like 8 p.m.,I think] So other than that, we were thinking we should make this a family tradition every year around Christmas. We made arrangements for Xmas week, but all the kids were to sick to go. There was no issues with changing our reservations at all. Everyone of us had a wonderful time for two days. Great times! Parking and unloading was even easy. Registering was tough, too long. We wanted to play. Now!…
You might want to drop off a family member then go take the others out to lunch or something. It’s a Monday checkin and the line is about 1.5 hours to check in. You can’t even get a water park pass early it’s just one massive line. You’d think there’d be a few more employees checking people in, but I guess they make the same amount of money if people wait 5 min or 1.5 hours, so they don’t seem to care much.
The room was lovely, but we paid $1,200 a night, expected a little more. It was small and not very accommodating for 8 people. The staff was amazing and went over the top. The waterpark was very small if you've been to other waterparks you'll be underwhelmed. We also got a cabana and it was subpar.
Bernard at the front desk was so helpful! I had requested to be near my daughter and son's rooms when I made the reservation and was dismayed when I learned they were on the 4th floor and we were on the 2nd. Even though we had already unpacked, I went back to the front desk and Bernard and the manager were able to find us a room on the 4th floor, which was perfect for the grandkids to come down and visit. Bernard explained the reservation had been made through the corporate phone number, and unfortunately they neglected to pass on the request. We were having a combined birthday party for two granddaughters and it was important for me to be near them. We all had a wonderful time enjoying the water park and all the other fun activities, including Santa!
Overall the resort is DIRTY and rundown - the main areas, water park, and our room. The whole place seems really dated and gross. Our room had LIVE EARTH WORMS crawling across the carpet. I also noticed several dead worms on the carpet that appeared to have been there for awhile. The bed linens were worn out and stained. The curtain for our slider was falling off the rod, as was the one in our friend’s room. It was an easy fix which leads me to believe the staff either aren’t paying attention or just don’t care. A bartender told me they’d just shut down for a week for “deep cleaning” but there wasn’t any area that I would consider clean. I wasn’t expecting anything extraordinary, but considering that they nickel-and-dime you for nearly everything, you’d think the place would at least be clean and updated. …
