Went up to Minnesota to hunt grouse and woodcock in early October and found this place to stay. Prices were very reasonable this time of year and we had the place to ourselves. Both the cabin we rented and the lodge itself were very nice and the owners were friendly. Highly recommend.

Very welcoming hosts, our weekend started with a lovely welcome from their friendly St. Bernard. The cabins have full kitchens and grills are also provided outside each cabin. Very cosy cabins tastefully decorated. We were...

I stayed at the Trapper's Lodge and what a delight it was. We were very late checking in but Sue was very patiently awaiting us and showed us our incredible lodge - everything you could ask for and more. Peace and quiet and the serenity of it all, but yet there was plenty to do - boating, fishing, hiking, Duluth...

My family has been staying on Turtle Lake for years. This year when we tried to book our vacation at our usual place all of their cabins were booked. We were forced to pick a different spot. I am so glad we ended up at the Wilderness Lodge! The cabin we stayed in was the Chalet although all of the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Wilderness Lodge is located deep in the heart of the Chippewa National Forest, nestled in the pines along the shore of beautiful Turtle Lake. Lost in time, this grand log estate once served as a booming resort for fishermen, hunters, and families from across the United States and Canada. Today, Wilderness Lodge is a secluded Northwoods Inn where guests can unplug from the world and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life as they relax in the rustic elegance of our luxury log cabins. The Lodge is one of the last remaining full log structures of its kind in the area. From its humble beginnings as a trapper's cabin built in the late 1800s, the original resort owners first planned to live in the cabin and operate a silver fox farm on the property. However, family and friends quickly fell in love with the beautiful lake and magnificent scenery so their vision soon changed to wanting to share this paradise with others. This was the beginning of the amazing transformation from a simple trapper's cabin into a family resort with a historic log Lodge and guest cabins. Your hosts, Sue and Jozsef, have lovingly restored the property to its former state of elegance with some luxurious new upgrades. Once you open the door of the Lodge or cabins, your eyes are immediately drawn to the variety of trophy mounts and treasured antiques. You will find that the rich patina of the logs and the warmth of the fireplaces beckons you to come in and make yourself at home. Step into the Lodge and you will be taken back in time to the era of the great timber barons with the rich leather furniture, mahogany grand piano, granite fireplaces, beautiful antiques, pool table, and the incredible collection of trophy mounts. The Lodge serves as the personal residence of your hosts but it is open during the week for spa appointments, tours and special events. Our incredible Lake Escape Spa is located in the west wing of the Lodge. Here you can indulge and pamper yourself with one of our signature spa treatments while enjoying the peaceful ambiance of the historic Lodge. After your treatment you can relax near the water's edge and soak in the incredible sounds of the waves splashing against the shore and the loons calling across the lake. Wilderness Lodge now hosts weddings in our historic Log Chapel in the Woods or at our beautiful lakeside log pergola. Our experienced staff will help you create the romantic wedding of your dreams! We can also plan the perfect surprise engagement or romantic get-away. We invite you to come for a visit and experience the majestic beauty and peaceful solitude of God's unspoiled paradise. Your visit will leave you feeling physically and spiritually refreshed and rejuvenated. ... more   less
