Old Bahama Bay garners appreciation for its cleanliness, especially the well-kept marina and rooms with delightful views, and guests commonly laud the amiable staff. However, there are occasional remarks about the hotel being short-staffed and critiques about the value, with some guests feeling the prices don't match the level of investment in the property's maintenance. While the location is a hit among fishing enthusiasts, it's not universally adored for vacationing. The hotel's amenities, including the beach, marina, and pool, receive praise despite some concerns regarding pool upkeep and equipment. Room experiences vary, with reports of both pristine views and outdated decor.

We have traveled many places but this resort is falling short. For the prices we paid, we were told we couldn't have dish soap, paper towels, laundry soap (I had to buy at their convenience store). No pots in the room had to request.

Everything is very run down. I hear it's due to a hurricane but it's embarrassing. Pool is dirty. Hard to find beach towels (used room towels). Asked to borrow scuba equipment and the had 3 sets old and broken. Basketball court missing hoop. Gym equipment almost all broken.

Staff was very helpful and friendly and food was good but need to shape up the place!

Also for the location, very very remote so make sure to stop on the way in at the grocery store so you have necessities like waters, alcohol, cereal, snacks. Otherwise you are forced to buy everything at their restaurants which are not cheap. There are no stores offsite within any close distance.

Also freeport in general is very minimal. We went to the shopping area and most stores closed. I would suggest going to turks and caicos or another bahamas island until they recover from covid and past hurricanes.

A group of 5 of us recently took our first Bahamas fishing trip this week and stayed at the Old Bahama Bay Resort.
We had an amazing and BEST time for what the Bahamas is and has to offer.
I see some not great reviews on here but let's remember that these islands are not like the US where we are more than spoiled with certain type of luxury, service, and maintenance; they are surviving off of our tourism.
With that being said, I think the resort and it's staff were beyond great and accommodating.. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and always took good care of us and our belongings.
The rooms and its bathrooms were very spacious, equipped with a fridge, dishwasher, stovetop, microwave, and a couple dinnerware and wine key. Even a washer and dryer! Granted one of the washers (we booked two rooms) wasn't draining properly, but we didn't let that rain on our parade!
We are already planning out next trip to visit very soon!
Thank you for a good time and great first memories at West End! We'll be back soon

We arrived at OBB by private yacht. Clearing Customs was Very Helpful and got us through Very Quickly A+ !
Staying onboard in OBB Marina was good, a rope fell over and sank, a local jumped in and retrieved it. The Marina dockage, power, and water (mandatory $20 day) were in good condition. The restaurants and gift shop in harbor, and beach/pool side was gòod as expected.
I use and rate OBB as Good/Average, this is Not Sandals. The Bahamian people are Friendly and Very Helpful. Enjoy Yourself, we did and will rerurn! BarryCuda on "KAT"

Upon check in no one was in the lobby ( they left at 4pm)which is normally a staff of 1 or 2 tops. We waited for about an hour and circled around the vacinity looking for anyone to help. Called the security phone number posted on the side of the building and had to be checked in by security. Coffee machine was completely eroded, fridge pools water on the floor, toilet broke, very little water pressure. The hotel guide book is completely out of date- everything from the extensions to the restaurants, amenities, and activities are incorrect. There is no room service. 1 restaurant is open per meal time and the offerings are extremely limited. The breakfast restaurant closed early today which left us with no option for any food. The lunch restaurant at the pool is ok but very expensive for basic pub food- $23 for a fish sandwich with fries. The dinner restaurant is the breakfast restaurant and is constantly out of many menu items. The stove has been broken the last 4 days as well. Garbage and maintenance equipment is just left out on the grounds and in front of the villas. Gym is disgusting and most equipment doesn’t work. The facilities overall are not maintained which is such a shame as it’s a gorgeous location. There seems to be no real management- no one cares about ensuring a clean a tidy facility. Staff is often hanging out.
No atm on site. If you inquire on the shuttle service to nearby restaurants, make sure you go to bootleggers who takes cards. Otherwise the only other food option in the area, Ella’s is cash only. Go in for food!!

Recognising the island is recovering from covid so some sympathy.

No front desk after 4pm
No food after 5pm
No bottled water in room
Toilet did not work, the security staff kindly moved us to a room with a working toilet but broken shower.
Damp sheets
4 star price for a 1 star experience
$855 on rhe web $1277 after the Bahamian tax scalping.

Really not yet ready and no warning, i feel robbed and cheated after intention to support a local business.

Went to the West End for a quick trip to fish. As you enter the harbor you go right to customs and the marina check in which is very convenient. The young dock hand was quite pleasant and willing to help. We arrived early so our rooms were not ready which is totally understandable and the young lady at the reception area was quite warm and welcoming. Very nice start of our trip. After fishing a full day, we came back to go to our room and the rooms are nice and have a nice view of the bay. The immunities in the room are limited as the refrigerator was quite old along with the coffee maker. The shower only had one temperature and that was scolding hot.. OUCH…. The room was clean and nice for our stay. Went to dinner and the young lady could not have been nicer but being short staffed you waited for drinks and dinner. The food was not cooked and the other meals were average at best. Not looking for gourmet food as we understand we are in the Bahamas , however, not being cooked ( fish )is just not acceptable . Again, the service person could not have been more pleasant and trying, however, just seemed very short staffed. When we return to the hotel we will do so because of the people and location. The ownership should invest more in the facilities and personnel to make this an ultimate destination for the fishing and boating crowd from the states.

We arrived late, “Quiggly” was on her way home turned around to check us in room with Tommy Bahama Decor. Most rooms have views of beach from your beds as you wake up in the morning. Local town has Native Boats selling Lobster Conch Fresh Fish catch that day! Downtown Freeport is 30 minutes away with All Services Open. Brian & Douglas

This resort was perfect for us. Liked having a full kitchen and the complementary shuttle to the nearest grocery store was a bonus (however the store is expensive and minimally stocked - if you rent a car get groceries in Freeport). The beach is just gorgeous and very well maintained - as is the resort itself. All of the staff are super friendly - which seems to be true of every where in the Bahamas. The food at the poolside bar is good and reasonably priced. I had the cracked conch two days in a row it was so good. Complimentary beach kayak and snorkels. We were there during a very quiet time so hard to say what it's like when it's busy. But I feel that the resort offers very good value for the price. If we were to have stayed a week I would have wanted a car. The taxi fare to freeport was $80 each way which was an expense we hadn't counted on.

Booked a 5 night stay for May 2024. The location is in desperate need of TLC. The rooms were rough, the pool and lounge area was filthy, with no umbrellas, or shaded areas. My husband actually skimmed the pool one morning … no workers in site. The pool hut with towels didn’t open until 11:00. The beach had broken lounge chairs and hammocks.

The food was the best part of the trip… we enjoyed most meals and most of the staff (not all) at the restaurants were working very hard to meet the demands of the clientele. We ended the trip early to visit another island and resort and were so happy with the decision.

It may be an adequate location for boats /fishermen staying a night, but would discourage anyone from looking at this location for their vacation.

We stay at Old Bahama Bay a few times per year as we journey across from Fla and enjoy the close proximity and generally very good fishing. The entire staff from the harbor to the reception to the restaurant are ALWAYS courteous and friendly. A location where anglers can enjoy great fishing , nice hotel and a good cold beer and meal after a long day on the water. The rooms are very nice and well appointed with nice proximity to the harbour and restaurant. The issue I have with the hotel is that most of the anglers that arrive sometimes after 5pm. Unfortunately, the front desk is closed and you must walk to a guard house which is a long walk to get your keys and then search for your hotel room. The walkways are not lit so it is difficult to navigate. Once you get to your room for a nice shower it is then off to the restaurant where it is very crowded and the staff is just trying to keep up. Again, all friendly faces and they are working hard to satisfy each guest. This review not directed to put any negative comments on the facility or the the fine workers at Old Bahama Bay but to the ownership to help with making a stay easier and more enjoyable. No doubt we will be back at OBB in the near future but wanted to leave these comments for hopefully getting some relief for future anglers and the staff at OBB.

Taxi Cab drivers are the best and they are at the airport waiting for you. It’s a toss if you will get a good or maybe-too-fast driver (although we had an amazing one this past trip).

Yes, but it is very shallow and more for babies. The sand only goes out a little way and then there are weeds and bottom growth that you should not walk on due to the potential for stepping on an urchin.
