We just finished a family vacation at Big Lake Lodge. There were 8 of us (ages 12-84) and everyone had a terrific time. There is something for everyone. The kids swam, canoed, kayaked and we all fished a lot and did some hiking (to Big Moose Lake). A coupled of days we visited Ely where there are plenty of good... More

My two boys and I had a week long adventure to Big Lake Wilderness Lodge. I planned the trip along with the help of the resort manager and fishing guru, Chuck. We had a great trip, one that my boys and I will always remember. We fished , we paddled and hiked all over the local area and every where... More

We've stayed here for our family vacation for 20 straight years. It's great and we look forward to coming to Big Lake Wilderness Lodge every year. Big Lake is beautiful and uncrowded. Lots of islands and campsites, and many miles of undeveloped shoreline. It has easy access to the BWCAW, and there are day trips you can take right from... More

We found the Big Lake Wilderness Lodge on short notice for a quick family get away that included my husband, his parents, myself, and our three kids ages (12, 7, and 5). We ended up in the Windigo cabin, which we ended up getting at a discount because of the short notice. This is an exceptional cabin. Upper loft with... More

My wife and I and our three kids, ages 3, 5 and 11 spent a week there in mid July and had a wonderful time. The managers Chuck and Lois were great - very nice and helpful. Someone else commented that it wasn't a good resort for kids, but I can't figure that one out. Our kids had a blast... More

Beautiful lake and area. Rustic cabins, except the one we chose - Basswood. It felt more like a suburban apartment. Chuck was very helpful manager. Cost reasonable compared to similar resorts. Long, slow drive from Ely. We like the Canadian Shield type geology, but not necessary to get this remote. Fishing was terrible for us. We fish Northerns, and lake... More

The customer service was good and booking was a breeze, however our companies' travelers left a day early than scheduled due to poor overall accomodations (cleanliness) and fluttering of bats inbetween the walls. Didn't get any reimbursement/compensation. Will not return.

We actually didn't stay at the Big Lake Wilderness Lodge, but we were going up to the BWCA and we forgot a life jacket. Big Lake Wilderness Lodge was closer of a stop than going back to town to buy one, so we stopped in to see if we could buy one from them. Instead, the owner let us borrow... More

“Loved the Windigo!! There's no pictures of the bedroom on the resort website, but we found them adequte. Also!!! Dog friendly resort. We brought our lab and springer with us, and they were welcomed and had as much fun as we did.”
