The Outing Lodge is a hidden gem for relaxation. If you want all the amenities of a five star resort this is not the place for you. If you want an amazing place to relax, turn off a cell phone, enjoy nature and enjoy some great company this is the place for you. It is so close to all the...

Reading a few critical reviews on here about the property, I'd question the reasoning people have for hitting a bed and breakfast in the first place. B&Bs are meant to feel cozy, lived-in and carry a sense of home, away from home. That might mean that you don't have perfectly clean fireplaces, that you use toiletries that aren't the ones...

The web site make this place seem like a great destination, but it is deceiving. There is no "history tour" as advertised. The tour is more like "here is the library and here are the bathrooms." You can read the history on the web site for the best info. The wine and cheese is served to you from the kitchen,...

The staff, food, rooms and nature of the visit was outstanding. The amenities, exceptional service from all made you feel at home there. Our room was very clean and excellent. I would recommend to anyone to stay at the Outing Lodge.

We stayed in the Robert Frost room - it was spacious, clean and very comfortable. All of the common areas, from the entry to the library to the downstairs event rooms, were clean and you could just feel the history there! But best of all was the breakfast! Delicious pastries, french toast, eggs, etc. We would definitely go back!

This place is awesome. Instead of typing out paragraphs, I thought I'd highlight just a few items that make this place great! 1. They have a super friendly chocolate lab that hangs out by the door. His name is Choco. He's great with kids and strangers alike! 2. The BREAKFAST. Ohhhhhh my word. This trip would have been worth it...

Needing a break in the busy hustle and bustle of work and life? The Outing Lodge was a great way to reset and refresh. We stayed in the Robert Frost room which was surprisingly large and charming. The wine and cheese tasting was a wonderful way to start the mini-vacation. A healthy walk in the fresh air in the morning...

Our stay at the Outing Lodge Bread and Breakfast was amazing. We found the Lodge to be spacious and interestingly decorated. Upon checking in we received an interesting tour of the grounds with an oral history of the Lodge after which we enjoyed a couple glasses of wine and cheese. Our room was well decorated, warm, and spacious. We rested...

I love staying at the Outing Lodge, where you feel as if you have retreated to a woodland oasis and back in time...Stay during an off-day, like a Sunday night, when it's less crowded, and you'll even feel as though you have a mansion to yourself. Wonderful breakfast too, and gardens, and nature walking... beautiful. Dog friendly.

I found the Outing Lodge like a charming, sophisticated, older woman. It has a quiet sophistication that only age can achieve. My granddaughter and her new husband were recently married there. The house and grounds are lovely and it made their special day perfect.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
19th Century History Preserved at the Outing Lodge European style 19th century country home, surrounded by lawns and gardens with 300 acres of wooded park land ~ a place where people would go to get away from modern city life. Pine Point was founded in 1858 as Minnesota's second "poor farm," a home for the chronically indigent or those temporarily down on their luck. Stillwater was a wealthy community in 1850, the territorial capital. In this abundant atmosphere, a desire to help the less fortunate culminated in the construction of this poor farm. The prize-winning dairy farm became both a home and a workplace to thousands of needy for almost 100 years. When the farm was closed in 1957, the land was planted in pine trees, now Pine Point Park. The house went on for 20 years as a Rest Home. In the 1980s, to save it from proposed demolition, Lee Gohlike began its renovation. He gutted its interiors with a reverence for its historic past: wide-planked wooden floors cut from old pine beams provide a perfect backdrop to the many elegant antique furnishings, numerous candelabra and massive fireplaces. Featured in Midwest Traveler, Star Tribune and other local & national publications, this beautiful Georgian home is a destination for exclusive retreats & events. Guests enjoy cross-country skiing, horseback and biking trails connecting to the Metro system. Theme dinner calendar of events. ... more   less
