Staying at the Sanctuary Retreat was a highlight of our holiday in Australia. We stayed for 3 nights in a Rainforest hut with alfresco ensuite and loved being so close to nature, falling asleep to the sounds of the forest. The Longhouse is a beautiful calm place to spend the evening with fantastic views out to sea. Having the restaurant...

If the environment is your sort of thing, you'll love this place. The huts let the breeze through the walls and you can look right out onto rainforest. The 10-15 minute walk from the car up the hill through the rainforest was a real treat at the start and end of each day and got our lungs working! The people...

We only slept there for one night on our way from Cairns to Townsville (its about half way..) but we wished we could have stayed more! This place is beautiful and well kept. Only 2 minuses is that its shared bathrooms and the fact that it is quite secluded (you need to be picked up from the car park up...

Stayed with my partner two nights. AMAZING. Such a nice place, short trip to mission beach (if you have a car) and the owner is a great guy. The food is also amazing and the lodge was just what we expected. Only negative was we didn't see a Cassowary haha, next time.

We had booked for 2 nights but enjoyed it so much we stayed 2 more nights. Our stay was quiet, peaceful and located in an unbelievable rainforest setting with all the amenities required for a delightful stay. We loved having access to a great restaurant and all day cafe while still having the ability to self cater to ease our...

I stayed at the Sanctuary Retreat for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed my time.I felt really immersed in nature as I stayed in one of the rainforest huts. While the hut was simple it was very comfortable and I felt like I was a part of the forest. The shared bathrooms are fine and I also had my own toilet, basin and shower....

This was my second trip to Sanctuary, inspired by a lovely stay last year. VERY simple 'cabins' and quite private and so very economical. Beware the path is VERY steep. Clean and well set up bathroom block and self catering facilities, but I have to say that the restaurant and bar service upstairs in the longhouse is fantastic. Very friendly...

We spent a lovely four nights with the Sanctuary Retreat and must admit almost all aspects of our stay met or exceeded expectations. The facilities, lodge, rainforest huts and well-cared for and exciting property made for a memorable stay. We spent the entire stay in a rainforest hut with the added ensuite bathroom facility. Do note that only cold water...

Thanks for your great review and glad that you enjoyed your stay at Sanctuary. With regards to your comments about the restaurant "would be better off aiming at a more value-oriented offering", the dinner menu ranges in price from $20.50 to $34.50. So we think there is wide variation in prices that suits most budgets that don't want to cook...

The secluded nature of this getaway was precisely what I was looking for after a few days with friends at a nearby wedding. The continual downpours did little to dampen my spirits, rather, they served to highlight the rare beauty of the surroundings. Would recommend this to solo travellers.

Thanks Mark for your insightful review. Sanctuary is not your average hotel and is a mix between the sociability of a hostel and the privacy of a retreat. So it's really up to guests to decide which one they are looking for. Hope to see you again

I loved staying here. I was part of a yoga group so stayed for 5 days. The rainforest hut was basic but comfortable. Being in the forest and able to hear the sounds was wonderful. The food was fantastic. We had a vegetarian menu all week with some wonderful surprises like parsnip fritter on wild rice. There were also facilities...
