I had the pleasure of staying at Midgard for 10 nights. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The food was of the highest quality in both preparation and taste. The bed was a very comfortable sleep for 10 nights. The grounds are gorgeous with lots to do and are well maintained, and the meeting...

I stayed at Midgard Country Estate for 10 days in March 2017 for a conference and had a wonderful time. We had 15 in our advance team and 48 participants who stayed on property for 5 days. The staff at Midgard was incredibly kind and willing to help out with all of our conference needs. Our rooms were clean, spacious,...

I recently visited this estate for a ten day stay. Fifteen of us arrived early. By the second day of our visit each staff member called each of us by name. There was never a task too small nor too large for this team of amazingly sweet individuals! And each task was performed with a smile. Our bedrooms were spacious...

Interesting location. Takes you a long way out in to the dirt roads - normally in Namibia a great thing. However, it is a long way for what it is. Basically has a few rooms on a farm in and around swimming pool and play area for kids. However, the food not great and the beds not confortable

The reception at the lodge were very pleasant. The room was very clean. The food was excellent. We had good night rest as it was very quiet. I will always recommend friends and family to visit midgard country lodge. Swimming pool is also very clean.

I booked a luxury room and was pleasantly surprised to see the size of it, it was huge! They also made extra effort to put an extra bed for my niece who joined us on the trip. The room was only available at 14:30 which I think is a bit late but acceptable considering that it was boxing day.

The accommodation is perfect. The only disappointment was the food. The food is not as great as it used to be, and the wait in the queues just get meat is just too long, by the time your turn comes, you'very lost appetite.

Midgard is a perfect place for team meeting, retreats, business venues. It has good facilities (meeting rooms.. teleconference... projectors..) and amenities (bowling.. swimming pools.. gym.. a museum). In 3 days we never experienced a single problem (projector working, water and refreshments available on time, internet connection ). Internet wifi band is enough to download emails but not for webex or...

The estate undoubtedly has significant potential. Unfortunately in it's current rather run-down state, it falls short in comparison to the many other lodges in the same price range we have visited as part our Namibia round trip. A few examples: The pools had not been cleaned in a while. There are pieces of broken glass omnipresent. The animal area does...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Midgard Country Estate is located only 60 minutes or 85 km northeast of Windhoek and only 70 km from Hosea International Airport in the unspoiled Otjihavero Mountains. An ideal family hide- away, first or last stop for International visitors, intimate meetings, team-building events or weddings. The founder of the Namibian Conglomerate, Ohlthaver & List, Carl List, originally acquired Midgard Country Estate in 1937. His son, Carl Werner List originally farmed the 16,000-hectare Estate and developed this private and intimate world: a household name in Namibia. Today you are invited into this very private world to enjoy the tranquility whilst marveling at the pioneering German Settler spirit, which gave birth to it all. Midgard, a word found in Old Norse, Middle English and High German languages has varying meanings but is popularly thought to be a paradise where the earth rises again, fertile and green, creating a protected world and a safe “empire” for the people. It is an intimate world of its own, which only offers 46 newly decorated and fully equipped rooms, the Main Dining Room & Bar, the Boma, two swimming pools and Pool Bar & BBQ, Gym and Sauna, private Skittling Alley or Kegel Bahn all spaciously situated in a vast sprawling country garden bordering the banks of the Swakop River as it meanders through the Estate on its way to the Atlantic Ocean at Swakopmund. Activities consist of either doing absolutely nothing or discovering Hiking and Mountain Trails, driving along 4x4 tracks, playing Volley Ball, Tennis, Table Tennis or outdoor Chess, Star Gazing, and then viewing the Vintage Car Collection. One of the Estate’s major attractions is a Sundowner Drive or Nature Game Drive to Hilltop for an amazing sunset accompanied by traditional “sundowners”. Morning and afternoon Nature Game Drives through the separate 2,000-hectare Nature Reserve along the Swakop River will open up an experience clearly confirming what life was like on a traditional Namibian Farming and Game Estate in years gone by. Wildlife found here includes Giraffe, Blue and Black Wildebeest, Oryx, Kudu, Hartebeest, Eland, Warthog, Baboons, and smaller antelope species such as the Steenbok. Birding along the riverfront can also be rewarding. ... more   less
