We didn't manage to experience the lovely Pulau Tinggi that Shaz Resort had to offer since we cancelled our booking at the last minute but we would like to share some useful information for would-be travellers who'll be planning their stay at Shaz Resort Pulau Tinggi since there isn't much available online.
1) Email them before making any bookings. They can quote you a package that might or might not be cheaper than their listed rates. Also ask for any hidden or additional costs (this was the main reason we cancelled our booking).
2) Whatever booking you make online (e.g. is only for the room. Boarding and boat transfers are at separate costs of which you'll only be informed via their confirmation email.
3) You can only get there only via their resort speedboat. Although they share Tanjung Leman Jetty with the other resorts, the only way to Shaz Resort Pulau Tinggi is via their speedboat.
4) Beware of their boat transfer costs. We cancelled our booking only after they emailed us a confirmation saying that their boat transfer is for 6 pax, but since there's only 2 of us for the day, we had to fork out another RM$480 to cover the empty seats (RM$120 per passenger; in other words, we had to pay for the whole boat) and they can't waive the charges. We're not scrooges but why pay for empty seats that cost more than the accommodation? This wasn't highlighted anywhere in their booking terms or website. They might have overlooked this clause but if they had mentioned it earlier, we wouldn't have gone with the trouble of making arrangements and then cancelling our trip.
5) They do reply promptly via email so please ask as many questions before booking.
All in all, I think the boat transfer policy is pretty flawed (but hey, i'm not running the resort). If you've got 6 to go, then it's alright but if you're going solo and there's no one else heading to the island with you on that trip, you'd better get your Ringgits ready.

My friends & I had paid the 50% booking fee in August 2020 & the balance when we arrived in February 2022 due to the Movement Control Order. Unfortunately, the sales agent, Azie who attended to us was very incompetent & unprofessional throughout. She was not meticulous & had made many mistakes in the quotation. I even had to correct her calculations! If you can, do NOT liaise with her but speak to her manager instead.

We started our journey right after morning prayers as the Tanjung Leman Jetty boat transfer to Shaz Resort was at 12:00 noon. We paid RM120.00 for the two-way boat transfer. We were also told to pay other fees such as the jetty fee & national park fee, both at RM5.00 each. Insurance was charged at RM10.00. Parking at the jetty was charged differently during weekdays & weekends at RM4.00 & RM6.00, respectively.

While waiting for the boat, my partner & I ordered drinks from the only shop that was open for business. Our other 2 friends went to KFC which was located beside the jetty. The boat ride to Shaz Resort took at least 45 minutes as the water was choppy & the wind was strong.

Our boatman stopped the boat in front of the resort. He did not send us to the Pulau Tinggi Jetty as it was a bit far for us to carry our luggage to the resort. Thus, we had to jump into the water. Shaz Resort had certainly seen better days. There were many “insta-worthy” photos to be taken on the property. Unfortunately, those props & touch points weren’t properly maintained & looked run-down.

We went straight to the reception counter. Welcome drinks were provided for new arriving guests while we waited for our keys to our respective rooms. The 4 of us had booked the Executive Room which was beachfront.

I was a little disappointed to see our rooms as we had paid a premium. The room was small. At least the mattress was firm. Glad that the room came with air-conditioner. However, the carpet had a nasty stain mark. We were given 4 bottles of mineral water for our 2-night stay. Coffee-making facilities were also provided with sachets of coffee & tea. My partner was very happy that it wasn’t Nescafe but a different 3-in-1 coffee brand, namely Super 3-in-1 Original which was rather delicious. A small refrigerator was also included in the room. The bathroom came with a heater & the water pressure was surprisingly good.

We had a “pangkin” or gazebo in front of both our rooms, facing the sea. Since it was a hot day, the 4 of us decided to play gin-rummy at the gazebo. It was fun with the wind blowing on our faces. Afterwards, the 4 of us decided to flex our muscles & walk to the Pulau Tinggi Jetty which was a good 15-minute walk from Shaz Resort. We passed a work-in-progress mosque, 2 restaurants & the only local school on the island prior to arriving at the jetty. We decided to have tea & some finger food, namely banana fritters & “keropok lekor” at one of the restaurants after which we continued our walk to the jetty & enjoyed the view from it. As it was beginning to drizzle, we headed back to our rooms.

All meals were held at the open-air restaurant. The food & buffet spread wasn’t particularly good as the chef was a twenty-something young man with very little experience. Still, I could see that he tried his best to accommodate my special requests.

We were just unlucky as the rain poured throughout our stay. We couldn’t snorkel, island-hop or hike. So, we ended up playing pool in the games room. Each game was charged at RM6.00 & we played a total of 5 games before going on the water slides in the pool. We felt like children. One of the water slides didn’t have enough water running through it. As a result, we didn’t have a smooth ride & got stuck approaching the end of the slide. Then, we headed out to the beach & had a good time swimming in the sea.

Nevertheless, the Resort Manager was very pleasant & tried his best to make our stay memorable. There were bicycles available for rent but we didn’t indulge. We had also explored the chalets behind ours & found that some are currently being built while some had been abandoned.

Check-out was fast & the boat transfer was at 11:00 am to the Tanjung Leman Jetty. The journey back was pleasant & shorter as we were going faster. My friends & I wouldn’t mind coming back to Shaz Resort simply because of the potential that it offers plus the attractive island-hopping & hiking package. We just have to find a better month to visit.

Our family of 2 adults and 2 young children were the only guests at the resort over a holiday weekend.

Rooms: While basic, our bungalow was right on the beach. There is AC, but no hot water and the room was never cleaned once during our stay.
Facilities: The pool was murky and appeared to be under maintenance the whole time, so we just stayed away from it. The irregularity that someone would be at the kayak/bicycle/snorkel rental counter was frustrating. The wood beach recliners lacked any cushioning so were too uncomfortable to spend any time on.
Restaurant: There were only 4 of us at the resort, but meals were still served buffet style and put out at the allotted meal times which meant that the food was usually cold. During meal times, the staff was inattentive, you couldn't order alternative food options, and the beverage selection was limited. Alcoholic drinks are not available at Shaz and must be brought to the island.
Insects: Sand flies and mosquitos were vicious - not the fault of Shaz, but they had no repellant for use or for sale.
Beach & water: The only positive part of the visit.

Overall, we would not recommend Shaz. The staff seemed uninterested in making our stay enjoyable and rarely engaged with us. We checked out a day early and no one seemed to care.

Pulau Tinggi is a small island off the South-East coast of Malaysia. An old volcano sits in the middle, the view is quite impressive when you arrive by boat for the first time. We stayed at the Resort on a 3-day-long weekend beginning of September 2017. It's not expensive, and definitely worthy! The staff was available & very friendly, the room comfortable, and we enjoyed some of the activities available: snorkeling, kayaking, but didn't find the time for the jungle trekking. diving only available if groups of 10+.
Make sure to contact them before hand to arrange for the boat transfer (and possibly
a full package with driver transfer from Johor Bahru if you are coming from Singapore). They take credit card, but bring some cash to pay for the Marine Park 'entrance' at the jetty.

My group consisting of 18 family members (16 adults 2 kids below 12) were at Shaz Resort from Sun,16 June till Wed,19 June'19. We departed from the Tanjong Leman jetty about 12.30pm in 2 separate speed boats and reached Pulau Tinggi just after 1pm. After we had our welcome drink,we were given the keys to our rooms.

Since our package for Day 1 did not include lunch, we planned for lunch out only to be informed the only eating outlet on the island was still closed due to the hari raya holidays.Luckily we still had some tidbits we brought along from home for the trip to last us till dinner at 7.30pm! We were puzzled why the resort staff had not given us the heads up regarding this in the confirmation email she sent us a week earlier. Making our way back to our rooms after dinner was also interesting as the pathways were poorly lit especially the ones right in front of our rooms.

The rooms were very basic but with very good a/c....alas the TV could not receive any signal and was blank throughout our 4-day stay;only one (out of 6 rooms we occupied) could receive some signal and watch a few channels. The staff who came to our room to attend to the TV issue offered a USB stick containing movies instead. After we selected 1 movie to watch, alas the picture couldn't go full screen...we ended up watching the movie only a quarter of the TV screen..again the staff who came over to rectify it was clueless.

Day 2 got us really excited as we were going for island hopping and snorkelling. Alas we were again let down big time. We were supposed to go to 2 islands for the 2-hr snorkelling sessions - Pulau Mentigi and Pulau Simbang;after dropping us at Pulau Mentigi, one of the 2 speed boats went off to run some errands at Tanjong Leman but did not returned!

We were stranded at Mentigi for 1 and half hour before the staff called for another boat to come over to fetch us. By then the water and weather had turned rougher so much so the scheduled itinerary at Simbang and other island stopovers had to be cancelled. To be fair, the staff did give us some discount after we complained about the aborted programme.

That night the younger members of our group planned to chill out at the Karaoke Lounge after dinner. But again jinx struck...they were informed by the staff that the karaoke machine has broken down and could not be used!

Day 3 again was another letdown as the trekking programme was cancelled
due to inclement weather. The resort staff were generally polite but could have been more forthcoming and helpful...and also do bring along insect repellent as the insects seemed to be more'gungho' as they became acquainted with human presence in the rooms!

All in all, beside the decent meals
included in the full-board package, the 4-day stay at the resort was
a major disappointment...alas!

My husband and I gifted my newlywed sister and her husband a honeymoon trip. They arrived at the resort at 12.50pm. Their lunch period is till 2pm. Our package full board meal didn't include lunch on the first day and my sister wants to pay for lunch but was told all there was no food left, not even Maggi.
They were given early check-in before 3pm but their room was in terrible state. There were dead bugs on the floor. The floor and corners were dirty.Their toilet sink area were dirty.They didn't throw dirty cloth inside the cupboard and broken night lamp. (pictures attached).
I called their hotline and informed the person I was liaising with. And at first, she offered to change the room but my sister and her husband was tired & hungry to even care. And I request to buy lunch (simple fried rice and ice cold tea) and was told it will be delivered around 4.30pm-5pm. I asked her whether it could delivered before 5pm and she told me their chef was resting that time. Throughout the 1 night of their stay, they met another couple who informed them, they were the only ones there. And I asked for their resort manager's number who was on duty that day. I left a WhatsApp message and called many times but there was no reply and answer. And the lady who I was liaising with (she's on mainland) asked me why I needed the manager's number and if I want to complain, she had already raise the issue to the management. I told her that I want the manager to liaise with my sister's husband about the room and I want to ask about the meal. I told her that I will write bad reviews on media platform and Agoda. Less than 5 minutes after I said that, she said someone will be sending lunch to them.Nobody approached my sister and her husband about changing room. They were only asked whether they want the room to be cleaned again and that was about 4.30pm and by then, they were very tired, hungry and angry. I told them, the room was supposed to be cleaned before guest check-in and not after guest check-in.I gifted 3 days 2 nights but my sister and her husband was so disappointed that they check-out after the first night. According to my sister, the people are friendly and kind but they need to do better in room cleanliness, maintenance of the room and more proactive to customer's basic needs such as food. We have stayed at their neighbour's resort (Sari Pacifica Resort) at Pulau Sibu.An island just opposite them and it was great experience for us. It's a pity because according to my sister, their beach is beautiful.Major disappointment for us because we wanted to give my sister and her husband great honeymoon but it was ruined.

We initially booked the standard room. Those rooms are located behind the pool. the view was to the left a garbage field and to the right a construction area. After discussing the situation with the very helpful guy at the reception we moved into the executive bungalow directly on the beach. Those huts are new and have a great view over the beach and the sea. The beach has white sand, is relatively clean and there is a nice reef for snorkeling. The sunbeds however are wooden and no mattress or cushions are provided. There are a lot of sandflies, ants and mosquitos around. Make sure you bring mozzie repellent.

The restaurant has no menu, you will get the same food as the staff which is basically rice and chicken. Sadly no fresh fruits. They also don’t have a liquor license, so make sure you bring your own booze.
Wifi was not working for the 3 days we stayed there and neither was the TV.

There is only one person in the resort who speaks English. He is very helpful, but sadly is the only one who seems to care about guests. At breakfast we asked for coffee and after bringing a pot from the kitchen, the staff firmly shuts the door to the kitchen making sure we are not disturbing them again…
The music played inside and outside at the restaurant is very loud.
The chairs inside and outside do not have any cushions, very uncomfortable especially as you already spent the day on the hard sunbeds.

Hidden costs: the transportation via boat is organized via the resort and is MYR130 per person both ways. On top of that you pay MYR10 per person jetty fee in Tanjung leman and a hefty MYR50 per person entry fee for the marine national park.
The resort also offers bicycles, kayaks, BBQ equipment, karaoke room and several other activities for additional charge. We didn’t try any of it.

We will come back as all in all we enjoyed our stay.
