You get your own cottage in a courtyard setting. One of Richmond's historic buildings has been sensitively and cleverly extended to provide really interesting accommodation. We were in The Retreat: bathroom, living room and bedroom. We were there for only one night, but it would be a great place for a longer stay. Well equipped kitchen, though packed into a...

Thankyou very much for the lovely review of our accommodation. So many of our guests make the same comment... wishing they could extend their stay in Richmond. There is so much to see and do in our beautiful, historic town and it does indeed make an excellent base for discovering the wonders of Southern Tasmania! Kind regards, Simone

We stayed for 2 nights with our family of 3 teenagers. They were very impressed with everything about the Richmond Barracks especially 'chilling out' in the garden and the short walk to the famous Richmond Bridge. Save some time for the drive out from Hobart, there are plenty of wineries and berry picking opportunities on the way even though it...

We stayed overnight after arriving in Tasmania. Great venue and made to feel very welcome. The cottage had three rooms including the large bathroom and shower. Good facilities and nearby pub for dinner.

We stayed at the Richmond Barracks for an overnight stay on the 14/01/2016 while we traveled the east coast of Tasmania. We were warmly welcomed on arrival by Simone and were shown to "The Retreat". The kitchen/living room was very well appointed (2 comfortable couches, small dining table etc), extremely clean, pressed linen and fresh overall appearance and smell. The...

From the moment we pulled up, we knew that we would like this place. Simone and Matthew were so friendly and welcoming. The room (Lady Esther Cottage) is a very well appointed 2 bedroom cottage. Our son took the upstairs room (2 single beds with separate toilet) and we took the downstairs room (queen bed with ensuite). The provisions for...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Richmond Barracks is centrally located in a quiet, peaceful pocket of the beautiful Georgian town of Richmond. An easy walk to the famous Richmond Bridge and Richmond's main street, filled with excellent dining options, antique stores and Tasmanian craft shops. Relax and enjoy the spacious sun filled gardens that surround the beautiful cottages on our property. The Colonial officers who originally lived at the Barracks certainly did not enjoy the superb comforts you'll find here today. Built in 1830, using local convict bricks, this charming National Trust Registered property is a restful haven for the discerning traveller. Choose between any of these three purpose built accommodations: Lady Esther Cottage: two storey, self contained family accommodation, sleeps four comfortably. The Retreat: bedroom, lounge, kitchenette, bathroom, sleeps two/three comfortably. The Cellar: studio with kitchenette and bathroom sleeps two only. You'll be comfortable and warm with electric blankets and heaters in all bathrooms, and efficient reverse cycle air conditioning/heating in all cottages. Free WiFi is provided throughout the property. A hearty, continental breakfast is available at an additional charge. Off street parking is provided. ... more   less
