Very nice, clean and comfortable accommodations. The owner, Rachel, was so nice and available via text anytime if we needed anything during our stay. She’s very knowledgeable of places to visit and eat while visiting the area. Highly recommend staying there.

Plain & Fancy is the ultimate bed and breakfast experience. Rachel, the host, is incredibly kind and a truly warm and generous person. We stayed in the Scarlett room, which is huge, with double shower and large jacuzzi tub. As it was January, we utilized the fireplace - which was set for us and easy to light. Cozy and romantic. Breakfasts were large and she asked us what time we wanted it for each day, which was very accommodating. If you are any where close to this area of Missouri on your travels, a stay at Plain & Fancy will absolutely be a highlight.

Wonderful hospitality! Breakfast both mornings were delicious. Coffee, Tea and other drinks 24 hour accessible. Outdoor hot tub, inground pool. Rachel will give great recommendations of things to do and places to eat for dinner. Very friendly cat Chad was so sweet and lots of fun!! My daughter and I cannot wait to go back!

I WISH I would have taken more photos to share with you! First off, the owners of this B&B are super sweet and so personable- they're the kind of people you wish you could be friends with. I had originally planned to tent camp on the Tom Sauk mountain, but with 100+ degree temps, I opted to pay for somewhere to sleep so I could spend my time in nature without hating life ;) My room (I stayed in the front room) was SUPER cute and felt so inviting, just like the rest of the house. The area where you eat breakfast is adorable and so cutely decorated. You have coffee, tea, hot water- anything you need. The breakfast is to die for, I don't know what Rachel made but I would absolutely eat there before anywhere else around that area. My room had a HUGE bathroom with a sit-down bench in the shower, which was great after kayaking 11 miles down the Black River. There's also a mini fridge and microwave, so you can keep your snacks cool. I didn't use the pool or hot tub, but had I stayed longer I am sure I would have. Would DEFINITELY recommend! I know I'm forgetting things but seriously, the moment you walk into this place it just feels like home.…

We had an amazing stay at Plain & Fancy, a beautiful bed and breakfast. The rooms (we were in Butterfly and Scarlett) and en suite bathrooms are spacious with huge tubs, mini fridges stocked with beverages, drying racks, easy chairs and sofa, writing/eating tables, multiple windows, comfortable beds. There is an outdoor hot tub, playground, and, near the close-by cabins, a small pool great for kids. Everything was super clean. Breakfasts were so filling it was a two-meal day to stay there because we were full till dinner. The grounds are gorgeous - flower beds, lawns, and a lovely country creek where you can watch the fish dart about. But the most special aspect of our stay was our host Rachel. She and her family are gracious, generous, kind and accommodating to everyone's needs. Rachel was flexible with breakfast timing and attentive to dietary requests. She is the easiest person in the world to talk with, and went out of her way to make sure my and my family's stay was perfect in every way. Because of the heat spell, we couldn't spend a lot of time outdoors in the sun, but because the rooms and common rooms are large and welcoming, with comfortable chairs in outdoor shaded areas that attracted breezes (front porch, gazebo, for example), we never felt closed in. We just returned from a wonderful stay at the Plain & Fancy B&B. We were warmly greeted by Rachel upon arrival in this beautiful classic house just outside of Ironton. Rachel and Steve were perfect hosts and every question and need we had was taken care of. We stayed in the Butterfly room which is one of the nicest B&B rooms we have been in. The newly remodeled bathroom was gorgeous and the room was serene and beautifully decorated. The bed was very comfortable and the attention to detail here was excellent. The grounds were full of flowers and the rear patio area looks down on a creek, a great spot for relaxing. The pool and hot tub were also pluses. Rachel served a fabulous breakfast of Dutch Baby Pancakes with sausage links, fruit, juice and coffee. The friendliness and personal care were exceptional. We will definitely return to this beautiful B&B in the Arcadia Valley area again where there are lots of outdoor activities, a historic Civil War battlefield, a bluegrass festival in the spring and fall and more. We loved our stay for a quiet and relaxing couple’s getaway. Rooms: We stayed in both Scarlet’s Hideaway and The Butterfly Room. (We booked a little last minute and this is what was available.) Scarlet’ Hideaway is in the main house around the back, with a private entrance. There are some stairs to navigate. This room has a king bed. We found it to be comfy for lounging but a tad soft for sleeping, for our tastes. This room is more private. The shower is enormous with double shower heads. The rest of the bathroom is a bit tight. The jacuzzi and fireplace were both awesome touches. The room is large and cozy feeling. The Butterfly Room is in the main house as well, but up front. We were not disturbed but were aware of movement in the house. This room is light and airy with tall ceilings. The bathroom in very large but the shower itself is normal sized. It does have multiple shower heads. The spa tub can fit two, though a little less comfortably than the one in Scarlet. The rooms were both very clean. No mold in the bathrooms. Sheets, bedding and robes all felt high-end. Rachel has updated the decor/styling from what is currently on the website in July 2021. (In fact, the whole website seems outdated but does still function for reservations.) The new style includes a vintage, country feel, but avoids “country cute” or an overly antique look. She mixes classic touches with more modern shapes, colors and textures. For example, a modern lamp on an antique table. I personally like their refreshed version of a historical look. Both rooms had mini fridgesand TVs. The Butterfly also had a microwave. Hosts: Rachel was very accommodating! We had early reservations for a float trip, so she made our breakfast early for us. She also gave great dining and activity recommendations. As others have said, the dining options are limited, but there are tasty choices. No fancy spots though. She also made our room switch seamless. We know it was extra work for her but she had a great attitude. The family was around but we only visited with the parents. Property: The house is red (not tan like the picture online) so don’t be confused pulling up. The grounds include several outdoor seating areas. She has flowers planted in many places. They were doing some landscaping and exterior improvements while we were there. This combined with the general late July heat meant that the property was looking a bit parched. There is a medium sized pool with lounging areas. There are a few rooms that face the pool and are detached from the main house. The hot tub had been acting up and was temporarily out of commission, but Rachel offered to fill it if we wanted it. We just stuck to the in-room jetted tubs. There is a nice play jungle gym. Breakfast: Rachel made delicious breakfasts with plenty to fill us up. There is Keurig coffee available in the breakfast nook anytime you want it. I don’t know if it was a COVID thing, but there was no pot of coffee. You just made it by the cup with the Keurig. Rachel even welcomed us one afternoon with warm cookies, which were delicious. Overall a great place to stay! Prices matched the accommodations and the area. This place is great for couples looking for a nature-filled getaway, parks, and making your own adventures. Best for those who like small town charm. Families could also rent out several rooms and just hand out in the property, especially the rooms by the pool.…
