If I could rate this property a 10 I definitely would. It is a small hidden gem in the hospitality industry. We stayed 2 nights while we visited our granddaughter who is a student at Truman State University in Kirksville which is a short 12 mile drive away. Every one of their staff from top to bottom greeted us and made us feel welcome, The owner even called me back within 5 minutes of receiving my online reservation and answered a couple of question that I had and personally welcomed us to his property. My wife is some what mobility disabled and they didn't have a handicap room available but the desk clerk said he would personally deliver a shower chair for our bathtub for her to use. The room decor was beautiful and spotlessly clean. The room even had a leather rocker-recliner to lounge in. The morning desk clerk even offered to bake a hot waffle for me. My granddaughter loved to play pool games with me on the lobby pool table. They even allowed us to have our small Maltese dog stay with us for a $10 fee per night. We will DEFINITELY stay there again when we visit. There are NO motels in Kirksville or within a 100 mile radius that can even come close to competing with The Depot Inn in every aspect. TIP:: you can save some money on your reservation by booking with them directly on their website rather than going through a booking agent. Enjoy your future stay!

About two years ago my wife and I stayed at the Depot Inn and Suites in La Plata, Missouri: I think the twelfth time we had stayed there. We gave it a very good rating. Thus our first return visit was February 21st, 2020.
The hotel was very good to begin with, but with freshened hallway carpets and a stepped-up variety for breakfast PLUS a very, very hospitable counter clerk in the later evening and especially in the morning, we must rate the Depot Inn and Suites Excellent. Way to go owners. We shall return.

The room is amazing! The bed is so comfortable, I haven’t slept so well in a long time! The room offers so much space for one or two adults, which is nice because you really get your own space in a shared room! The room was quiet and the rooms surrounding my room were quiet as well. I can not recommend the Depot Inn & Suites enough. If you are in the area, you need to stay here!

My wife and I were looking for a small getaway to just relax for a few days. A friend mentioned the Depot Inn on social media and after some research we decided to give the place a try . We have nothing but good things to say about this lovely destination. From the warm and friendly welcome at check-in to the well wishes at our departure, this stay was fantastic. We stayed in a beautiful themed suite that included a jacuzzi tub, sofa, victorian style king bed and night stands, large flat screen television, electric fireplace, and a smart television that can be used to view the railway and train station via a live feed. The entire location is railroad themed and somewhat of a railroad museum with many interesting historic artifacts as well as paintings and photos. The pool area is decorated with railroad memorabilia and although we did not utilize this amenity we did observe that it was quite clean in appearance and the water temperature seemed to be at a comfortable level. The included breakfast was modest but adequate and the coffee was fresh and excellent . There is a small playground in the rear of the building as well as an outdoor patio type area with grills and patio furniture. We also noticed that there were charging stations for electric vehicles at the location as well. Cleanliness is obviously a very high priority as we rarely encountered an employee who wasn’t cleaning something and the daily housekeeping for the room was exceptional. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable , unique stay with a bit of a “ visiting with old friends” feel then I would highly recommend the Depot Inn and Suites.

Found out about the Depot Inn from a Virtual Railfan camera sponsored by the Inn. The more I looked at the information, the more I had to visit! We just spent the weekend with them in one of the luxury suites (The Pullman Suite) and we couldn't be happier with our stay! The owner and staff really welcomed us and made sure we had everything we needed. Everyone was super friendly and attentive. The hotel itself is beautifully maintained, the pride of the local ownership and staff in this facility really shows! Super clean and disinfected, but also comfortable and relaxing. Our room was extra comfy, and the bed...well, it was probably the best I've ever slept in. With a restaurant and a Casey's next door, as well as a Dollar General across the street, you really are within walking (or golf carting) distance of everything you'll need for the most relaxing weekend you can imagine. We were already planning our next visit on the drive home! Thanks so much for a wonderful weekend!

We were on a Northern Missouri road trip to see the fall colors and were going to end our day near Kirksville but did not want to stay in a big town. I found this hotel just South of Kirksville on Trip Advisor at a very reasonable price. The reviews were good, so we decided to give it a try. This is probably one of the cleanest hotels that we have stayed at this year in about 20 nights of travel. we normally stay at well known chain hotels and this one matched my expectations. Although it was small, it offered everything that I needed. We will definitely stay here again if we are in the area. I throughly enjoyed the RR memorabilia displayed in the lobby, the pool area, hallway and outside the hotel.

This was our second stay and it was just as good as the first time 3 years ago. We visit family in Kirksville every year and most of the hotels aren’t half as nice and the ones that are as good are way too expensive. This hotel has everything you need and has the friendliest staff.

I can't think of anything negative to say. There aren't too many places around with this kind character, cleanliness & charm. The owners have done an excellent job maintaining this property with everything from the beautiful crown molding & details to the Railroad museum that lines the halls. It's not your normal small business in VERY small town. The owners & staff are very friendly. Even if your not a train enthusiast this place is a hidden gem.

First off, this hotel is a lovely little gem in the middle of nowhere. It's well designed and if you have a train fan in your family they'll be delighted. The rooms are also comfy and with snacks avaiable for the picking in the fridge and free movies behind the counter to be used in the DVD player found in your room, it's a nice place for a getaway or to put your boots up for the night. What was a big bummer, though, was to see the guests milling about over continental breakfast not wearing masks or shoes. That feels unsanitary and unadvisable during this increased time of health guidelines. The staff weren't wearing masks and while there are signs about social distancing and hand sanitizing, it's a shame they didn't practice what they preached. For that reason, I have to mark this establishment down severely.

I am pleased to know that you consider us to be a gem and that our comfortable guest rooms, and complimenting amenities were to your liking. We were sorry to learn of your experience and concerns regarding health guideline. As an employer we have been diligent in educating staff on new practices to protect both guests and themselves during this time of heightened concern. We have provided our staff with masks and recommended their use, but again the law does not require the use of masks at this time and we cannot force anyone to wear a mask. Nothing short of the passage of a law would allow us to do so, and even in that event there are individuals with health issues that could prevent their use. Its important to note that we have not had a single case of COVID-19 in our town, but we are realistic and know that the future with COVID-19 and increased socializing is uncertain. Because of this we are looking at re-evaluating practices to safeguard the health of guests and staff, and identifying measures to ensure that all staff members are following the protocols put into place. La Pachanga Mexican grill next door to Depot Inn is a good choice IMO and they have decent reviews. We have eaten there several times nad were never dissapointed. Kirksville is easy 10-15 drive and they have more choices there.
There are more places to choose from in the La Plata area.
