If you're not into nature, don't go camping!! I get a "primitive" lot- no electric or water connections - and enjoy!! Its a beautiful area, and Black River is amazing, clear cold water- ripe for floatin'!!

Check in was simple and we were escorted to the property, which was very nice. It was better than expected for the price, space, and seclusion. The mountain house was wonderful & very private. We loved the free firewood & hot tub! We used the hot tub multiple times and it was great after a long float. The beds and bedding were comfortable. The pull out couch was not as comfortable and did not have sheets provided, but we did happen to have our own. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub, shower, and plenty of nice towels. Bring DVD'S if you want to watch a movie & know there is little cell phone service, but the wifi did work. For cooking, the basic utensils & pots & pans were there, but were well worn. We used our own cast iron skillet & portable propane grill. Overall, we had a great stay and would stay again. It was a charming log cabin! The float was well organized and the bus ride to the float was driven by a friendly woman who made the trip to the rafts fun. Unfortunately, the river was low in quite a few stops and we had to frequently get out and walk to drag the raft over the low spots. It felt like as soon as we got back on and settled, it was time to get off again. The water was clear and the kids enjoyed seeing the fish, one rope swing, and a spot to get out and float down on their life jackets, walk back up the bank, and float down again. We could have spent more time than we did swimming because we made it back to the takeout an hour and a half before we needed to be off the river. The boys that loaded the raft and the guy that gave us a ride in the back of his truck was nice and I wish we had carried cash to tip him. We will probably go to the Elk or Currant river next float, but had a good time at Bearcat and glad we chose them out of all the places to go. Also recommend going during the week. We practically had the river to ourselves. Also, bring your food/dinner before you get to Lesterville. There is no where other than Lenny's or Jack's gas station. We got deli meat at Jack's, cut fresh there.

We pre reserved three camp sites with 30 amp electric for three campers. We paid a big deposit. When time got close we called and confirmed our reservations and it was a go. That is when the nightmare started. First the map they give you is crap! You would think after being in business for a while they could afford road signs! Got loss twice! We finally get there very Sketchy! THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR KIDS! Our electric sites 1 worked other 2 didn't... 1 of the two had no power to it and the other had 50 amp! To top it off we paid for 4 rafts and when we got there we only needed 3 they wouldn't give us are deposit back on the 4 one. It was a blessing that the electric was trash. They gave us all our money back. We got lucky and found a amazing place called Twin Rivers Landing.. Very family friendly! I will never go back to bear skat it's a crap hole!

Keep in mind these are small houses in the woods of southern Missouri. It's not a 5-star resort with a corporate decorating team. Our stay was very nice - cabins were clean when we arrived and well appointed. Kitchen and bathrooms were supplied with everything we needed. The lodge is very spacious while the cabin is pretty small. Staff is not overly friendly and campground did not appear well kept.

We just went down for the weekend with a group of 10 people. We camped in tents, and did the Saturday float on the river. The road to the entrance of Bearcat is narrow, and awful for anything that isn't a truck or suv. It was $12.50 per person for each night of camping ($50/couple for 2 nights), then it's $23/person to float ($46 for a freaking canoe?!) Once you are in the park and headed to your campsite it gets confusing! There are a couple very small signs that tell you where to go, and the map doesn't help at all. If you have a car, good luck! We got stuck twice in sand/gravel because it gets very deep in areas (which no one tells you at the front desk) Thankfully, a few guys helped us get the car out. The restrooms and showers are small, dirty, and the toilets don't have doors; just a curtain... Near the campsites all you have is a Johnny on the Spot (if you're lucky), and the picnic table at our site was dry-rotted and on it's last leg. For what they charge people, this place really needs to be renovated. We have been to other campsites every year that are cheaper and WAY nicer! Definitely never going back

We booked one of the bear cub cabins for Labor Day weekend with another couple and our two small children. First of all the roads leading to bearcat are narrow and tore up. Had we not had a full size truck and suv we probably would have not been able to make it up the road that led to our cabin. Once we got to our cabin we were totally disgusted and disappointed. The photos online were completely misleading. It was on a rocky hill super far from the river- there was no grass or flat areas where our kids could play without rolling down the rocky hill. The bedroom had two dirty futons thrown on the floor. The bathroom was separated by a curtain. The rugs and couch were dirty and stained. I'm pretty sure if we would've let our kids play on the floor they would've contracted an std. We tried opening the windows to air it out but the screens were ripped so bugs were coming in. Luckily we complained and got a refund due to a booking error on their part. Even if we couldn't get a refund there was no way we were staying in this dump. Bearcat is a crap hole.

Beware! They do not give refunds when they get flooded out. Only rainchecks s good for only one year. I showed up after driving two hours around the river to witness a female worker give four different stories to six different people regarding possibility of floating or camping. If you don't know, you don't know. STOP LYING TO PEOPLE!

Firstly I want to rate this lodge between average and very good (3.5). We were a group of 3 couples who stayed at the Bearcat Mountain Lodge over the Valentine's day weekend... Since our idea was to relax and unwind, we weren't interested in camping. The place is a little bit in the interior, please make sure to follow the instructions to locate them as given on their website. The lodge itself is very huge with three bedrooms and two bathrooms... It has that old kind of smell... but everything was in working condition... The living room has a TV and stereo with I Pod dock although it's for the older versions. But if you have CDs and aux cable, you are good to go. We used the fireplace, the owner provided with the logs but we had taken the fire starter kits and matchboxes with us. The bad experience was in kitchen where the microwave is very small and it smelled awful. The stove top, oven and utensils provided are very greasy. In case if you are planning or cooking, would suggest to get your own pots and pans especially if you are a vegetarian. Also, the kitchen sink gets cold water but don't think that should be problem in summer. The lodge has a bonfire area in the backyard where you can enjoy in the evenings. The best part is the hot tub which accommodates 6 as promised on their website. Although it's not covered, we managed to enjoy it in the cold weather. There is also a grill outside but we did not use it. We wanted a large cabin for six of us and did not want to visit the Ozark or Branson. So this was the best cabin that we could find closer to St. Louis.

Stayed here for the weekend with a group of buddies. Tent camped, clean sites, laid back atmosphere, had an awesome time. Bathrooms/showers were a little rough though. The live music was great. This was the first time anyone camped here. Can't wait to make a weekend out at the bearcat next summer!

I'm a fan of Bearcat. We tent camp and float every year and always have a great time. Having the additional bonus of a band is nice too. In the past, the breakfast served was pretty good, it's an additional charge but its nice that it is an option.
