Just visited for the third time and it is truly the best B&B we have stayed at...anywhere, and we travel a lot all over the world. The home is a true marvel of architecture and design and the attention to detail that Isobel has put into the furnishing is truly impressive. This "Jewel of St Joseph" is truly just that...

My returning guests are a great source of pride to me, as well as being a mainstay of my business. Thank you, Larry, for visiting and for joining us for the "Jewels of St. Joseph" homes tour. See you again next September (if not before!)

I am a big fan of B&Bs and small Inns when I travel. Thanks to a local friend, whose family used to own the home, I stayed at the Shakespeare Chateau for two nights when I was back home last weekend for my high school reunion. It is by far one of the best B&Bs I have stayed in across...

This is hands down the cleanest B&B that we have ever visited. Isobel is a wonderful hostess and a great tour guide. The variety of wood and woodwork in this house is unique. The stained glass examples are excellent and are a good singular reason to tour this house. As a B&B it is well modernized. The breakfast is really...

We spent two wonderful nights in this B&B. It was charming, beautiful, and very comfortable. The rooms and common areas are exquisitely furnished (a stunning and faithful restoration to the original vision of the home -- it is without exaggeration when I say that this B&B looked better than many museums we have visited) and full of every modern amenity...

This B&B is simply beautiful. Named for the carving of William Shakespeare over the foyer mantle, each of the public rooms is aesthetically pleasing, and have been meticulously restored. The stained glass, wall finishes, tiles, parquet floors, just so many fabulous architectural details make this a destination in itself. The artwork is wonderful. A thoughtful attention to detail plus a...

Our stay was amazing. We had the room with the Jacuzzi tub and it was so romantic. I would suggest this room to anyone wanting a weekend getaway. It was well worth the money and the breakfast the next morning was delicious and the people were super nice. Thanks for a great experience! !

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The majestic Shakespeare Chateau was built in 1885 by Nathan Ogden when St. Joseph Missouri was known as "The Queen of the River Cities." High atop a bluff looking down across the city toward the Missouri River, 809 Hall Street is one of several mansions in the Hall Street Historic District known locally as "Millionaires' Row." You'll enjoy meeting the friendly innkeeper, Isobel, as she takes you through the palatial interior. You'll marvel at 47 (yes, 47!) Original stained glass windows, carved cherrywood, mahogany, and walnut mantles, and of course, a bust of the Bard himself above the grand fireplace in the front foyer. But most of all, you'll enjoy our comfortable sleeping rooms, each one beautifully appointed with fabulous art and antiques and luxurious linens. ... more   less
