The Dude Rancher Lodge is an historic downtown Billings hotel. We are proud to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places, which is America’s official list of important properties that provide a valuable link to the past and have been deemed worthy of preservation. Built in 1949, our hotel near downtown Billings is a rustic ranch that features weeping brick mortar and full-length porches. Our interior is designed with knotty pine paneling, custom-built western-style furnishings, decorative lampshades and carpeting that is adorned with the brands of local ranchers who originally invested in the property.

First off, the front desk clerk was from outter space and while I was waiting to be checked in, a guest came in to complain that the bed hasn't been made from the last guest. The clerk didn't apologize as if it was a daily occurrence. Get to my room and there are people smoking everywhere outside.... Then I walk in and everything in there smells like it did outside! Everything inside is over 20 years old and you just get the immediate feeling of an old stale fart the second you open the door... The toilet has not been cleaned since they installed the AC system which is probably 20 years old! The AC doesn't work, so I called the front desk after removing yellow gunk holding down the hangup button only to get the same stellar representative who said these words.... "I checked the basement and there are no fans available and that I could leave if I wanted" This place is a damn nightmare!

This is an older place that is rich with history. The room was very nicely furnished. We were in room 104. They still use KEYS 🔑 instead of room cards. We had a slight problem with the key on the outside side door but it worked very well on the inside door. Yes, this room has two exit doors. The AC unit was dated and not as it once was like us all but it did blow out some cooler air and there was a desk fan in the room. Like I stated before the lodge is dated with orange 🍊 counter tops in bathroom with a lemon 🍋 yellow sink. The toilet and bathtub where white with the tub being a jacuzzi, whirlpool tub. They also have a GREAT breakfast deal that when you order ANYTHING on the entire menu from the café it Only costs you $5.00 per person!!!! And it was a Wonderful breakfast 😋 and the waitress there on this Sunday was Amazing. The restaurant is open from 7am till 2pm but the lower rates only applies if you stay at the Dude Rancher Lodge. Hope you check ✔ both of them out and learn a little more about the history within this blast from the past. Enjoy and remember to have fun and smile often we all need it.

A bug filled sweatbox with rude staff. That about sums up my experience at this place. No amenities and don't you dare ask for any either. No working air-conditioning in the heat. Only thing that they have is an ice machine. So you don't have go 2 blocks away to get ice. This place fails in so many ways. I'm waiting to see when the cockfights come to town. I'm sure they will be here.

A nice hotel with a vintage western theme. Front desk and staff very friendly and accomodating. The room stay cool during a very unusual heat-wave and was very nicely equipped. Wi-Fi was a little slow, but nothing that I would complain about. The $5.00 breakfast will keep you going all day long. Good location with an easy walk to downtown, markets, and some interesting shops. Billings is a great place to visit for sure.

Room Tip: I liked the upstairs room for it's high sloped ceiling.

This is a neat hotel with a great personality and vibe. My room was clean and comfortable, the food/breakfast was delicious and prompt. This was a comfortable place to stay for a young, solo female traveler. A great price with a nice jet tub and a comfortable, lodge like vibe for my room and common areas; I especially liked the rustic feel and the red bathroom. My only complaint was that it was very warm in the room; it made it hard to get a good nights sleep, as I was tossing and turning all night. Although that stinks, it lead to a strange experience: I was in a fit of sweaty sleeplessness and felt the bed shift and heard it squeak as if someone sat down on the side. It woke me with a start since I was alone, but there was nothing to be seen. I must be having sweat dreams, I thought. I continued to be hot and toss and turn for a few more hours. Barely awake I frustratingly said out loud, "It's sooo hot in here" and a female voice responded back, "yes, it is." I was so tired when I woke the next morning I thought it had to have been a dream. It wasn't until mentioning it to my husband WAY later that he looked up the history of the hotel and sent it to me, most notably that a female voice is often heard in the hotel. Guess I shouldn't have been so casual about it! I mind the hot rooms more than I mind the 'ghosts' - if this hotel room was cooler in temperature, they'd get a full 5 Star, excellent rating from me.
