How is this possible? Having a loaded Danish herring plate with everything for a starter, giant Mexican shrimp for main meal, a chocolate desert that made me think of an erotic experience and an Italian wine that still remains in my mouth - in the middle of the forest by Swan Lake. In the middle of nowhere. Where nobody lives.... More

This was a cozy place for a getaway on a rainy weekend - comfy room and lounge and very good food. Dogs welcome. Would be happy to return another time of year to enjoy the lovely garden, the lake right across the road, and explore the many trails in the area. It's close enough for a day trip to Glacier,... I originally chose the Horse simply for it's proximity to the nearby refuge and the free breakfast... but as soon as we arrived, I realized we had found something special. When we opened the door, Kathleen knew who we were and which room I had reserved... then took one look at me and immediately moved us to a different room... More

A nice, quite destination in the heart of Montana's mountains, southeast of Kalispell. The accommodations are a little rustic, but all of our needs and expectations were met. No TV in the room (great), but WiFi was available. The breakfast was wonderful and healthy, along with the conversation with the host and other lodgers. The hospitality and food cannot be beat!

Kathleen Moon runs one of the finest restaurants in a remote place. Food is exquisite, wine is too and reasonably priced. Her staff is attentive and the outdoor dining is warm and inviting even if its chilly outside. Go out of your way to get there. Trust me, you will and you won't regret it.

The Sprunger Whitney Nature Trail is a lovely forest loop which has been pleasantly signposted with information about the native plants such as the Wild Huckleberry. Great combination of nature and education. The trail was recommended to us by Kathleen of Laughing Horse Lodge who also lent us a can of bear spray. Wanted to share this as there are... More

This is the experience that We had at this Lodge...Rooms are tiny, beds are not good seems to be past their usefulness, walls are so thin, you can hear people going to the bathroom, soring, talking, we were next to the employees room, very laud banging, etc Very little parking, except on the street out front We had two hamburgers,... Dear Don and Ingrid, thank you for your candid comments about your stay at the Horse. I'm sorry your experience was not satisfactory, but old lodges are not for everyone - what some find charming others onerous. There are very nice (and new) hotels in Kalispell if you should ever wander back to our little slice of heaven. I appreciate... More

We didn't stay in one of the main rooms, but in the cabin across the street. It was reminiscent of staying at a friend's cabin. Clean, nicely appointed, just a bit rustic, and completely comfortable. There is some road noise from the highway, but it dies down later in the evening. Our cabin had a kitchen, not sure about the... More

Though we are locals and live less than twenty miles away, Laughing Horse Lodge is our choice for very special dining in a garden setting just off Swan Lake. Enjoy a day of kayaking or paddle boarding, then walk across the road to Laughing Horse Lodge, a lovingly restored cabin with eight rooms for overnight occupancy. We had not been... More

I stayed after a 5 day pack trip in the back country. The room was very cozy and inviting as was the courtyard, I had dinner and breakfast at the Lodge and cannot speak too highly of either. The meals were absolutely delicious and the staff was very attentive without being overwhelming. The owner Kathleen and her three golden retrievers... More
