I’ll start with the only good thing about this motel & that is the great location right in downtown as it’s name suggests. The rest goes from bad to worse from the condition of the rooms, uncomfortable beds, thin floors & the barely minimal decor. For $300 a night pass on this place unless location is most important, otherwise pay for an uber & stay at any number of hotels a little further away that give you way more. Motel Lobby is only open 9-5 & sign on door directs you to the new & beautiful hotel across the street to check in. $530 for that place. No rooms available tho’. The downtowner reminded me of a hostel which is about the right comp at way higher price. See my pics of the room interior. Ceiling & bath stains, toilet lid cracked, counter damaged/stained. Room 26.

There was someone in the lobby to check us in. She was nice. Room on second floor. Hallways dirty and full ash buckets sitting on rails. Rooms worn out. No pictures on walls. Electrial outlet 7 feet off floor. Fridge holds about 4 drinks sits on floor with microwave on top of it. Bathroom has peeling paint and toilite seat missing parts and very old. About 4 am a couple guys were trying to get into rooms. Their keys opened doors but someone else was in there. Made for some excitement. The lobby was closed most the time. Was told we could go across the road to another hotel if we needed anything. No coffee.

We traveled to Montana on Amtrak in a sleeper care, overnight from Seattle. The service was spectacular, food is included in the sleeper car fare. If you can swing it, go with the bedroom car. You have your own bathroom and a lot of extra space. Plus during the pandemic, they will serve you in your room. We stayed at the Downtowner, which 3 blocks from the train station. Love this place. We were allowed to check in early as our train arrived at 7:40AM - normal check in isn't until 4PM. This isn't a 4 star motel by any means, what it is though is comfortable. Very clean room, comfortable beds, TV, smelled nice, plenty of towels, spotless bathroom. My 5 year-old daughter loved the room, of course jumping from bed to bed was a highlight for her until day two when she landed short. The town of Whitefish has a great mix of Art stores, gift shops, bars and an excellent selection of Restaurants. There is plenty of snow to see, a free Sno-Bus shuttle that provides timely service to and from The Big Mountain Ski Resort. You do not have to be a skier to enjoy the resort either, for $25 you can get a foot pass and take the Main Chair to the top and catch an amazing view, have a decent cup of coffee, and I can tell you the peperoni pizza was "clutch", new word that means "Cool" I learned at the T-Mobile store from the sales guy when I showed him a trick on my iPhone. Since our train left at 9pm going back home and check out was at 12 noon. The owner let us stay until it was time to go at no extra charge. Needless to say, I left a very nice tip. Kudo's to the Downtowner Hotel/Motel for offering their rooms at a very reasonable price ($69) per night. I checked on a lot of places to stay, and this was the best price with the location. I was surprised that there were not more people staying there. Just across the street there is an upscale boutique hotel with prices starting at $300ish. Their parking lot was full. I guess there is a lot of money visiting Montana these days. The locals we met were awesome. We will be making the trip back in the Summer as well.

Rooms are brutally run down. No lamp shades on lamps. My friend stayed in a room on the third floor and they had the same lamp, no shade. Tiny scratched up dresser. Room opened into the alley. Nothing on the walls except the odd nail/screw. Walls were bare. I have never observed a hotel room without pictures. No dresser other than a tiny night stand. Jacuzzi jets broken but water was warm. The spider living in the corner of the bathroom was a particularly nice touch. Is it necessary to say that the drain in said bathroom shower was clogged and slow to drain? Housekeeping appeared understaffed as they did not get to our room during our stay. Front desk attendant was very friendly upon arrival. I walked into the room upon check in and returned to front desk and requested ANY other room other than the one we had. The hotel was fully booked and we could not be moved. Some rooms face the ally and literally have a sign on the wall that says "Watch out for traffic when exiting room". On the plus side, my bed was comfy and room comes with a small fridge on the counter that will hold about 4 drinks. I am fully aware that the Downtowner is a budget motel but the rooms in the alley are brutal and should be half the price of the other ones, which aren't all that awesome to begin with. Would it absolutely bankrupt the owner to spend a couple bucks to buy some new lamps or lamp shades? And when I read the patented line of "a remodel is on the works.." I don't buy it. This place has looked EXACTLY the same for a decade as I used to stay here 2-3 times a year. So by no means my first stay, but shall be my last.

Very overpiced compared to other properties. Paint peeling, no lanpshades, phone or in room coffee. Sink plugged and tissue holder falling off wall. Have stayed here in the past and enjoyed the experience. It has gone totally downhill. Never again.
