Lovely accommodation and outstanding food service. Catered for dietary issues happily. Well worth wandering the grounds. Internet allowance was a nice surprise in the back of beyond. If you have time a couple can rent the bathhouse for a romantic soak with a view. I would highly recommend this. Make space for this in your trip. 10km from Portage.

We went here today for the ' Lunch in the Sounds' experience. Our weather was a little wet and windy and as we drove through from Nelson to Picton. We then caught the water taxi to the Lodge. The whole time spent on within the Lodge and at the Cafe was very memorable and special for us both. It was... More

We stayed as a family of 4 (two young boys) for 3 nights - it's a fantastic lodge in a very special environment. We were reasonably occupied even with the relatively long stay and the fact that we didn't take any water taxi outings or long walks from the bay. The "hammock culture" is a lovely idea, and the punga... More

Fantastic hidden away lodge. Beautiful location and the staff are super friendly and helpful! We had a room facing the water. Not a lot to do in the evening so even a small TV would be useful. The food in the restaurant is delicious however quite pricey. The stingrays are a true highlight!

We stayed 2 nights at the Lochmare Lodge. Gorgeous setting and stunning views. The charge per night is very competitive BUT that's where it ends. The restaurant is very expensive, and menu limited to say the least. (Most times our first options were not available, such as French toast, pulled pork burger and mushroom pork main) We arrived Sunday night,... More

This lodge is in a gorgeous spot right on the sounds. There is plenty to do for a family and activities will fill a day nicely. it is best to shop around for water taxi prices as the lochmara lodge water taxi is very expensive at $60 return for a 10 minute trip. They charge for children too so this... More

Spent 2 nights at this wonderful location. From the moment when you are arrived you are made to feel welcome. The views are stunning, food top notch with young happy staff that are friendly and warm. There are great walks around the bay, art finds, animals and resting spots with hammocks and deck chairs. Not to mention the bath house... More

While in Picton we took a day trip to Lochmara Lodge conservation area. It started off with a very enjoyable 20 minute boat ride down the Queen Charlotte Sound. We were guided thru the natural environment learning about the native flora and fauna exploring the art trails area, hand feeding native parakeets and eels. The highlight for me was to... More

SO much to do at this place ! My brother & I were here for 2 days after our stay in Picton (you DO NEED to hire a WATER TAXI to get here or walk in from Queen Charlotte Track- no car/road access) & were blown away by the beauty of the place (weather was perfect).
