This is a magical place, where you can get away from the pace of life and enjoy relaxing and watching the world go by. There are lovely walks and lots of interesting little nooks and crannies to explore. The staff are friendly and helpful. We loved our visit - thank you!

Omg. Don’t get the cheeseburger at the restaurant down by the beach. It took 30 mins to make. It consisted of: - Ciabatta bread (literally not designed to be a burger bun. It was too bready) - one patty - 1 slice of unmelted cheddar cheese - 2 mini slivers of pickles - no flavor Plus, 10 fries (not even exaggerating, it was literally 10 slices of potatoes) The worse burger I’ve ever eaten in my American life. Everyone needs to be aware. It was also $29

We recently walked the Queen Charlotte Sounds over five days as a family and choose to make the 1 hour walk down off the track and stay the last night at Lochmara. So glad we did, our children loved this place. There is so much for them to do here; from the animal tour, exploring the extensive grounds, through to using the kayaks/stand-up paddle boards in their sheltered bay. The food was excellent with a wide range on the menu and the staff were incredibly accommodating with any requests. Then to top it all off, the soak in the bath house relieved the aches and pains before our last 18km on the track. Thanks to Chris and Nicki for your hospitality and the kids voted you guys #1 of all the places we stayed.

Over the past 2 months we have taken people we support with disabilities over to 'Lochmara' to enjoy the beautiful surroundings & to enjoy a meal with the stunning outlook from the restaurant. I must say all the staff are amazing & so helpful if we needed help at any time. They went out of their way to make our day out even more enjoyable - thank you so much : )

Only the 2 bedroom unit was available when we booked in May for end December. It sleeps 5. However, the queen bed is in the living area, taking up most of the area, leaving only room for two arm chairs. The other room is a tiny dark room with bunks and one single bed. Their was a kitchen, which did not have any glasses, you had to use mugs. There were plates and bowls, but nothing to use if you wanted to cook in the microwave. No teatowel either. There was an outdoor table with plastic chairs. There was no air conditioning. And no privacy. We felt the aim was to use the restaurant. These units are right by the restaurant and outdoor seating for the restaurants, mainly used by day visitors from Picton. It is very popular with families, and noisy. There is also the noise from the motorboats, jet skis, etc. Definitely not a tranquil spot, even when you went further away where the hamnock areas are. Defintely underwhelmed us.

Absolutely recommend this to everyone. Such a beautiful and interesting day. Possibly a bit steep for those with bad knees but was definitely worth having a good look around. Little bits of art everywhere and watching the animals getting fed. Kakariki feeding is a once in a lifetime experience.

We only went over to Lochmara for the day. The boat trip over and back was a great experience. The lunch which was included was excellent. Would certainly recommend going to Lochmara for a very enjoyable day out.

What a wonderful experience staying at the Lodge. So quiet and peaceful. Lovely food and comfortable units. Visiting the eels, pigs, and birds for feeding time a real highlight. The ride up and down the Sound is always a bonus. Beautiful scenery

This is a wonderful, relaxing location. We enjoyed walks, swimming and kayaking. Our room was metres from the water - felt like we were in Fiji. The grounds were well maintained. A great place for kids with the pig, eel and kakariki feeding. Only downside was the restaurant menu which sounded good, but was rather average.
