The Splendid Hotel La Torre is to be found in Mondello, a part of Palermo still wrapped in the myths of the "belle-epoque" and which is located between an unexpected traditional fishing village and one of the most beautiful and fascinating beaches of the Mediterranean. However, Mondello is just a few minutes bus ride away from the city centre on the other side of the wide avenues of Favorita park. On the opposite side, a short stretch of motorway connects Mondello to the city airport of Falcone - Borsellino. It is therefore and ideal place for those who want to enjoy a completely relaxing holiday whilst still being conveniently close to the centre of Palermo and its extraordinary monuments. The " La Torre" complex is situated after the large semi-circular beach, just a few metres on the other side of the fishing village on a little promontory of which the hotel occupies the smaller part, overlooking the bay with its park stretching out in the opposite direction as far as the "Capo Gallo" coastal reserve. The hotel has a private garage watch over video 24 hours a day. foto hotel2Bathing Area: From June to September, this particularly noted Sicilian bathing area is open to the public. Here it is possible to do all aquatic sports (sailing, windsurfing, water-biking, motor-boating, diving, etc.) Hotel guests have exclusive use of the large, well-equipped sun terrace located immediately behind the cliffs. From their rooms they can directly access the beautiful sea-water swimming pool, they can use the whirlpool bath and the purpose-built platform down on the rocks which is ideal for taking dips into the sea.

You don't really get much for your money - rooms outdated, very simple furniture. Cleaning is done only on the surface. Staff work hard but under great stress. Sea view rooms are the only option, because with "garden" view you will only get parking and backyard view. The pool ist nice, but it is hard to get sunbeds and umbrellas since some guests go down early in the morning to put their towels there and then don't show up until noon. Staff not really helpful in this respect. Access to the sea not recommendable for people with light handicap. Fine breakfast with good variety of pastry, fresh fruit. For lunch better go around the corner to the stabilimento (under same management as the hotel) for simple but authentic food at a good price. Dinner at the hotel expensive (100 Euro for two). Waiter told us to better come in September, August is really crowded, no late check-out possible if your flight is in the evening.

There’s nothing really to complain about here, the rooms are spacious, quite modern and it’s all spotlessly clean. The communal areas may be slightly dated but they are spacious and the views from the terrace and the bar are amazing of an evening. There were no issues with the staff, all were friendly and accommodating. The only gripe I had was the policy of charging thirty euros for a 14yr old niece to visit for an afternoon. All she really had access to was the saltwater swimming pool (I have to admit that was a first for me too...!) as the red flag was up and the sea access gate was closed. Maybe a bit of common sense could be applied here?

Dear Mr Mayfairjack, thank you for your feedback. We are happy you appreciated the services. We are really keen to read them and get the best from your stay to tailor the experience around our guests. Regarding access to swimming pool for external guestss: 30 euros are related to INSURANCE we have to deal with for external clients (whose access it's very limited during rush days). Thus red flag or "half day" is not connected to the price. Moreover, the external access allow you to use both hotel facilities and the "stabilimento balneare" areas with other 2 salty swimming pool, wide spaces, solarium, bars etc. Hope to welcome you again! Best, Federica Guest Relations

A rather basic hotel given the price charged. The hotel is some distance from most local amenities, and doesn’t offer much in itself other than a nice view.

The restaurant doesn’t open until 8pm and even then only opens for 2 hours, so don’t arrive hungry. There’s some cafes around a 15 minute walk away, but again most of those don’t open until late.

Breakfast is a busy affair, with a small packed dining room that makes it difficult to find a table.

The rooms, although basic, are comfortable although the air conditioning struggles to keep a temperature below around 28C in the summer. They do have a nice view, but that’s more by coincidence than design. Wi-Fi is functional but slow. Minibar is extortionate (€4 for a small bottle of water).

Overall, for €250 a night I’d expect a far nicer hotel. I’ve paid less than that for 5 star luxury hotels in Italy, so expect more than a basic holiday hotel especially in Sicily.

We recently stayed at this hotel while on a week long trip to Sicily. We were due to stay in an AirBNB style place by elected to book a hotel so we could have gotten the amenities we were lacking from the AirBNB.

When we arrived the gentleman at the front desk knew exactly who we were, only reasoning behind this was there was hardly anyone else staying there. We were booked in for two nights but were open to staying two more. We said if you could give us a deal on a nice room with a view we will stay two more days. And we got a firm “No, this is what you paid for” for being two of only a handful of people there (we saw two guys in the morning sitting outside and a couple by the pool in the afternoon and that was it for the time we were there) you would think they would like the extra business especially with tourism taking such a hit right now. Wouldn’t even give us a room with a better view other than the garbage bins.

Walking to our room we realised it was in DIRE need of a renovation. Rooms were extremely outdated. At that point we were happy he didn’t offer us a deal to stay an extra two nights. Only one of us touched the breakfast, and I heard it was not appetising.

Positives: The majority of the staff we interacted with were extremely friendly! The hotel is in a great location, you are still on the main strip in Mondello but enough out of the way you don’t hear all the noise. The pool area is also very nice, and you do get some amazing views.

We had a wonderful mini break at the end of June after the dreadful months spent in lockdown due to Covid.
The hotel has direct and private access to the sea where you can swim off the rocks, and it is just a short walk from the bustling piazza and busy beach of Mondello.
We had a sea front room from which we were able to enjoy the most amazing view (the sunrises were breathtaking!) The only noise we could hear were the boats sailing by. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spotless, even the linen was changed every day.
The large terrace is perfect for evening drinks whilst watching the sun set over the sea. We had a delicious meal of fresh fish on one of the evenings (we preferred it to eating at the overcrowded restaurants in town).
Right next to the hotel is the beautiful Capo Gallo nature reserve where we went for early morning walks all the way up to the lighthouse (a must for anyone who loves the outdoors).
I would definitely recommend La Torre to sea lovers who want to unwind and relax away from the crowds.

My recent stay at the Splendid Hotel La Torre was unfortunately riddled with multiple disappointments that left me feeling frustrated and dissatisfied. From the hotel's careless loss of my personal items to the exorbitant prices, rude staff, and malfunctioning room card, it was far from the splendid experience I had anticipated.

Let me begin with the most distressing issue—the loss of my personal items. Despite entrusting the hotel with the responsibility of safeguarding my belongings, they somehow managed to misplace them and showed no willingness to take responsibility. Their lack of concern and failure to provide any solution or compensation was both disheartening and unacceptable. Losing personal items can cause significant distress and inconvenience, and the hotel's dismissive attitude only exacerbated the situation.

Moving on to the room itself, while it was adequate, it fell short of justifying the high price tag attached to it. The accommodations were merely average and lacked the luxurious touch that one would expect from a hotel with the name "Splendid." The room's amenities were outdated, and the overall ambiance felt dated and uninspiring. Considering the premium rates charged, I expected a more opulent experience.

The behavior of the hotel staff only added to my disappointment. Their rudeness and lack of courtesy were prevalent throughout my stay. From check-in to check-out, their indifference and unhelpfulness were apparent. It seemed as though my presence inconvenienced them, and their unwillingness to provide even basic assistance left a sour taste in my mouth. Genuine hospitality was sorely lacking, and it significantly impacted my overall perception of the hotel.

Moreover, the recurring issue with the room card was a constant source of frustration. Every time I left the room, the card would inexplicably stop working, forcing me to make frequent trips to the front desk for reactivation. This inconvenience disrupted my plans and wasted valuable time during my stay. The hotel's failure to address this recurring problem was indicative of their lack of attention to detail and commitment to guest comfort.

In summary, my experience at the Splendid Hotel La Torre was anything but splendid. The loss of my personal items without any resolution, coupled with an overpriced and underwhelming room, rude staff, and the persistent issue with the room card, left me feeling disappointed and dissatisfied. I advise potential guests to consider these shortcomings seriously before choosing this hotel. With the lack of accountability, subpar service, and high prices, there are undoubtedly better options available to ensure a truly splendid and enjoyable stay.

Worst experience in this hotel ever.
First they didn’t let us enterwith the car to drop of our bags. Then they let made us wait 2 hours while they were cleaning the room. If it wasn’t enough, we booked a room for 3 people and they gave us a room with only one bed (had to wait 30min more).
The AC isn't working very well and the beds are not good.

Apart from the eexcellente position, located directly on the sea, the hotel is in urgent need of a major renovation. To be honest the hotel is clean and tidy but nonetheless oldish and not so well maintained.
Breakfast and dining are not up to italian and sicilian standards. Personnel is very kind, gentle and efficient, but the lack of selection at breakfast / dinner or the lack of maintainance cannot be mended with kindness.

If you wish to enjoy the best sea view in all of the Palermo area while sipping on a glass of white or red Sicilian wine and eating traditional busiata pasta, look no further! This is the place to be, feel, and enjoy authentic la Dolce Vita.

Located on the edgy rocks and hugged by the sea, it's one of the rare hotels with access to the hotel beach. If you are not a fan of the sea, the large pool filled with seawater awaits you. The customer service is impeccable, and the true test of that was finding my lost grandmother’s ring. I accidentally threw it with other garbage in the trash can, while packing. A very kind receptionist, Arianna found the ring in the garbage after we left the hotel. I got the ring in the mail, my peace of mind :) , and a summer full of Sicilian memories.

We stayed here for a week as a family of 5, 3 children in a triple green room (for garden view read car park with plants) and a double sea view room which was stunning. I agree with other reviews that this wasn’t the best maintained (toilet flush didn’t work in one room) but the location more than made up for any faults.
The pool was a bonus (salt water and warm but lovely for a few lengths) the steps
Into the sea were brilliant. The pool bar was great - the snacks and drinks on offer were good. We really enjoyed our stay here
