Detailed Reviews
We stayed at the property for 3 nights on weekdays. It was still RMCO during our stay and everyone in the property is required to wear a mask.
Check in was quite smooth and we were required to reserve a breakfast time slot as occupancy was quite high as the hotel was hosting a group of people from a car club. Our room on the 4th floor is facing the ocean, would fair better if its on a higher floor. No doubt sunrise is just as beautiful.
Breakfast is wonderful. All service staff is attentive. Just as other reviews mentioned, roti canai is worth it: made fresh to order & dhal is equally good. Spread is good, from Asian to western. Juices & fruits are aplenty.
Dined in Prego on 2 different night. Service was on par on Sunday night, waiter/waitress were attentive. However on Tuesday night, they were short-handed and not as attentive. Shah, did his best and kudos to him. Food wise, they were of average. My child ordered a pasta from the kids menu & her portion is bigger than an adult's portion!
Housekeeping does a great job in cleaning and replacing towels & replenishing toiletries and water bottles. Only on one occasion did they came late, but that's fine.
We went to lobby lounge twice. First visit was good. Drinks & cake were served promptly. On the second visit, service was subpar. The waiter took our order (only 2) without noting down. 10 mins later, he came back to reconfirm if we wanted egg or tuna finger sandwiches. I had to repeat that it was cheese & cucumber. Moreover, he pulled down his mask most of the time when talking to us. He should've known sop better without being reminded.
But overall we enjoyed our stay as the beach is spotless, staffs are friendly and room is spacious enough. And the most crucial to us is the views, a great break from city living!

We stayed for 3 nights on weekdays post MCO for my girl's birthday celebration. The room is huge and overlooking the beautiful beach. The pool is limited and only open at restricted time where they closed for 30minutes for cleaning purposes, which is good. The beach is clean and safe for the kids. They offered breakfast with 2 choices set menu which are malay and american breakfast, whilst for the kids, they enjoyed their pancakes, waffles and plain omelette. However, during our visit, the kids club was closed. There were also buggy and bus to transport you around the desaru coast area. We had our dinner too and the foods were all delicious! We enjoyed our stay for the whole 3 nights. Will absolutely come back!

The first poor impression was the parking arrangement. Drivers need to remember validating TouchnGo at concierge for a flat rate before exit or hourly rates would apply. I fail to understand why guests have to pay for parking at all. Certainly not enough thought GMD into this by the management.
The narrow driveway was not built with large vehicles in mind. The architects have no idea that a guests to luxury resorts usually drive huge & high cars?
The beach was well kept but the beach kitchen could be better equipped to handle a larger crowd. Not enough seating for diners plus the menu could have been more diversified too.

I stayed here in 17-20 December 2019 with my extended family, to celebrate my son's birthday. I picked this hotel given my positive experience with Marriott hotels for more than a decade.
However, this was overall a disappointing experience.
1) The staff at the Italian restaurant have no clue how to accommodate customers. We turned up at 7pm without reservations, and were told that the restaurant was fully booked. Then we noticed that all the outdoors tables were empty. There was a thunderstorm earlier in the day, but these tables were now dry, and the staff initially insisted that the outdoors tables were not open for guests. Finally they relented when i pointed out that the tables were now dry. But I was given a warning "if it rains later, we cannot take responsibility".
Later on, we noticed that other tables had received complementary bread, except for us. But we had finished our meal by the time we noticed this and only knew when we saw this item on our bill as "complementary bread". The young lady at the restaurant's reception insisted that this was the bread we were served... except that we were never served this bread. But her tone suggested that it was somehow our fault.
Seriously, the young lady (unfortunately I forgot her name) who was at the restaurant's reception needs to be either fired immediately or given complete retraining.
2) I rang the operator in the morning asking if I could order a ready-made cake for my son's birthday later that evening. I was told she had to check with the relevant department. After several reminders and 6 hours of "checking with the relevant department", we finally found out we could order a cake. It is really baffling why a simple check could take 6 hours.
Other staff were generally professional and helpful, especially the concierge. However these 2 incidents really ruined the experience for me and my family.
I do not normally write reviews asking that a staff member be fired (this is the first time), but I really felt she had performed far below what you would expect of an employee at a 5 star hotel.

Truly a beach resort. Although not in a grand scale of some of those in Thailand, Bali nor Langkawi, but it is good enough for our small family of four.
The kids had a good time in the kiddie pool, the play room and rode on papa's back in the infinity pool. The cabanas were a scream to them as well (just not enough of them, and had to go really early to grab one).
The rooms are fine with plenty of room and storage space. All well catered for. Although we used our Marriott points for the stay, the price that they charge was on the high side, given the value of the returns.
The buffet breakfast is one of the best we have encountered in Malaysia, and in the last 18 months, we have been there 3 times.
Their Prego restaurant is also great, and the staff there is very high calibre.
The own piece of beach is excellent with service staff on the beach with towels and its own beach side cafe which serves decent grub and dinner.
Well done Westin for another good premise. Only one suggestion for improvement, please clean out the dust in the car park, it is causing your guests to have very dusty car floor mats.
Westin Desaru will always be top of mind option as a holiday destination for the family.

We are currently here on our 4th night out of our 5 days in Westin Hotel.
On the first day of arrival, the fire alarm sounded as we checked into our rooms. Appreciate the quick gesture of goodwill by the management to host a complimentary guest cocktail to apologies for the disruptive fire alarm, though I would recommend the management to relook in allocating fire warden at each floor to assist elderly people if there was indeed a fire. Quite a number of guests were lost, not realising the lobby is at level 2, or the location of the stairway.
On our second day, as we returned from the water park, it was pouring cats and dogs, and a few cars could not enter the car park because the parking barricade was not working, and we had to reverse the car from the curvy one lane parking entrance so that we could drop the elderly and kids at the lobby instead. Having said that, the management was quick to resolve the problem. However, when we finally got back to the room at 2:30pm, drenched and cold, we found out that the housekeeper missed out on our room, to which, we had to do a quick shower and waited for the room to be cleaned before we could rest. That was a real bummer.
On our third day, we decided to hang out at the beach area, but was disappointed to see that all of the beach chair has non-waterproof mattress attached to it, and was still dripping wet from the rain the day before. Appreciate if the hotel could wipe down those beach benches and remove the wet mattress or get waterproof mattress to address this problem. Also, the Beach Bar needs to take more initiative to walk around the beach area to take orders, which will definitely increase sales for them by 2 fold. This would be really helpful for family with kids, when moving everyone to the lunch venue is too much of a hassle.
On our 4th day, 2 out of the 4 rooms that we have booked, had drainage problem at the shower area, which caused flooding problem. Again, the management were quick to resolve it, though I would appreciate if they could send in the housekeeper to clean up the toilets after the plumber has resolved the problem, we had to ask.
Lastly, we were at Prego for grandma’s birthday celebration, and though we have informed the restaurant earlier that we needed a cake, we could only order desserts upon arrival, hence we ordered a tiramisu and a choc lava cake upon arrival. However, half way through our dinner, we added another tiramisu and choc lava cake, which the person who took this new order, did not put in the order, till we checked, which then it was deemed another new order only when we checked. All the delay caused our dinner to end at 9pm when the 1st course was served at 7pm. When I tried to follow up with the manager, I was only told I put in my order late, but in actual fact they completely ignored the fact that their waitress did not take in my half way order properly. I am really disappointed that they tried to push the blame on me rather than taking ownership to apologies on their mistake.
From the infrastructure, to the service level, I do think there are lots of improvement needed.

Manage to visit Westin Desaru before the MCO, a very nice resort around Desaru area, nice and suitable place for local to have a short
vacation.
Elite recgonition is hard to come by nowadays ever since Marriott/Starwood merger, but hotel did recognize my lowly gold status and
upgraded us to a Premier Sea View Room. Thumbs up to all the friendly staff and special thanks to Anina (Ning) for the hospitality.
Decent room size, everything look nice and tidy, spacious bathroom and not to forget the Signature Heavenly Bed.
Nice private beach, foods and beverages are reasonably priced. We love the coconut milk shake, the Pina Colada could be better though
(Lotus Desaru beach front bar have nicer Pina Colada).
Resort is surrounded by local eateries, 5 mins driving distance to local mamak, 20 mins to Teluk Ramunia for crab and lobsters. Parking
space is limited, especially during busy weekend.
Morning breakfast at Seasonal Taste, the breakfast spread at the restaurant is great, friendly and hardworking staff, everyone is extremely
helpful. I will give the team a full marks if I can find kaya toast and half boiled egg during my next visit, haha.

Had a very pleasant stay over the New Year break. The staff were professional and super hospitable, making the family vacation a very perfect start to the New Year. Special shoutout to Taufiq at the front office for his exceptional service and very warm welcome.
Rooms are nicely spacious and we really enjoyed sitting at the balcony just to enjoy the sea breeze and sound of waves. Beds were super comfy with nice little touches like lavender oil to enhance a good night’s rest, making it the perfect, relaxing kind of vacation.
The family also enjoyed dining at Prego. The food did not disappoint and is decently priced for its quality. Breakfast buffet spread at Seasonal Taste was sufficient to appease the young and old as well. Room service was also prompt
Just a slight disappointment that we were not able to book spa treatment for the husband and myself. We were really looking forward to this but was informed that it was fully booked for the duration of our stay!
Still, a very fantastic family vacation.

Desaru Coast is conveniently located 1 hour away from Iskandar/Johor Bahru. The hotel looks majestic from a distance. Parking is a 3 storey basement facility which may be a challenge to manoeuvre for bigger cars. We arrived late at 7pm, and felt the lobby was spacious, well ventilated but poorly lit. The lady staff was courteous and did her best to make us feel welcomed. The room was excellent; comfortable, cosy and functioning. The view from the balcony overlooking the pool and beach is relaxing. Overall the staff were very welcoming except the housekeeping/ maintenance staff who did not make eye contact or greet us whenever we bumped into them. Buffet dinner at the Seasonal Taste is alright, but the excellent Italian food at Prego is a must try.
My main issue of not giving a five star rating: on the 2nd day, we left the room after 1.30pm for lunch. We notice the room right next door was being cleaned. We got back at around 4pm. The room was not yet cleaned. At about 7pm we contacted the management via chat on the Bonvoy app, and after a few message exchanges, was told that the housekeeping staff came at 1537 and we had the do not disturb sign on. I remember vividly it was not on when we came back to the room, and the staff were at the other end of the floor. Well, It was our word against theirs. But when I read a few recent reviews before mine; the are issues with the housekeeping service.

We have a weekend stay here after a long incubation period at home. This is our first outing since the relaxation of the movement control order period due to Covid-19. We were greeted warmly at the reception, which was a good start. The front desk staffs are all friendly and attentive to our needs. The room is comfortable with a balcony overlooking the beach. The beach is easily accessible and clean with a beachcomber running the length of the shore. We managed to have a dip to feel the wave by the beach. It was relaxing and fun to have a clean beach to enjoy. The breakfast selection is appropriate given the restriction due to the pandemic. Breakfast is served and follow assigned periods. It was an enjoyable stay and we would stay here again in the future.
