Staying at the El Cortez has been on my bucket. I decided to stay after seeing a review by Travel Ruby. The room was beautiful my only complaint would be how small the bathroom is lol. I stayed in an Original 41 suite. It was quaint and beautiful. The casino has an awesome vibe to it and all the employees were helpful and nice. I held my own gambling. I recommend El Cortez .
Gambled at the old style slots with actual quarters. It was a lot of fun. Enjoyed a fantastic dinner at Siegels 1941. Staff was Excellent especially "Linda" our waitress! Great food and a real classy restaurant.
We stayed in the cabana suites at El Cortez in late February. I have a separate review for our room under the cabana suites. But I wanted to do a general review of the property. We had a great meal at Siegel's! Great service, it was later at night when we arrived and had no problem getting good food. However, we waited 30 minutes to check in at the main desk. There was only 1 customer ahead of us, 2 employees were at the desk, but 1 of them was talking on his cell phone and not working. Very frustrating! We have gambled at this casino several times and normally have great drink service. We love the vibe here, but this time we had a particularly nasty cocktail waitress. She wouldn't serve me a drink because I was sitting next to my husband and not on my own machine. Seriously? We gamble together and separately all the time. I have never had anyone not bring us drinks because I wasn't on my own machine. I asked her to pull my $$ in with my players card, but she refused and was so sarcastic. She really ruined our trip, it was our first day in Vegas and we were so excited to stay downtown. After that we went and gambled at other Freemont casinos who welcomed us with open arms. We picked El Cortez because of all the glowing reviews from Gambling Granny and Born2Vegas. I guess they only treat youtubers well. …
Gambled there Slots were fun. Won $200 dollars and really enjoyed the vibe. Had the Roast beef dinner special in the restaurant and it was great. Had the creamy cheesecake for dessert and it was Devine
Well, I used to love The Cortez. Loved it. It's the only reason I would come to Vegas. I would overlook any minor issues, because it was Old School, the Vegas I used to love. Came here twice a year. Loved going to Siegels, liked that dark little bar across from it, just to drink a drink a sit down for a minute. And it was really the only blackjack game in town, can't play on the strip, can't play downtown. Cortez was it, the last one. I always said I'd quit coming to Vegas if the Cortez quit offering a good game. Well, they raised the limits, now it's $15. I mean, I get the weekend, but it was there all Thursday, Fri, Sat, and Sunday. I mean, with $15 blackjack, ya really need to be sitting down with $1000 minimum to play, it's just how the variance works. Anyway, with a heavy heart, I guess my Vegas days are over. No where to play blackjack anymore, anywhere and my favorite place, and the last place left, finally sold out. …
The Tower Rooms have recently been renovated and they're gorgeous. Beautiful hallways, updated bath features, comfy new mattresses, new furniture & TVs, AND the oh-so-RARE Vegas fridge. In addition, the rooms are very secure, as a hotel key is required to activate the elevator button to get to your floor. Also, the demographic that actually stays here (generally older) are quiet, respectful, and are NOT the type that trashes hotel rooms : ) The great table games here (low limits and good rules) attract both the hotel guests AND the young Vegas locals (who both know a good thing when they see it). The restaurant serves everything at all hours (not as common at other hotels), so my 21 year-old son and I would zip down the elevator together (or separately), whenever we felt the need for a quick (or leisurely) meal. Hey, you might see Kenny Epstein (the hotel owner) eating there, too. If you like good table games (or old-school coin operated slots) check out the El Cortez on your next trip to Las Vegas. You may find yourself staying in a Tower room on your subsequent trip to Sin City!…
The good: decor is very cool. Very boho contemporary with a Vegas spin. The bad: the whole hotel smells like smoke, including the non smoking rooms. It’s 12:30 PM and I can hear loud club music in my room (third floor). I thought this would be a good value but I’m disappointed. The main priority with a hotel room is to be able to sleep well. Sleeping is going to be tough with the smoke odor and club music. I would pay double or more if I could find another hotel for tonight.
My husband and I have been coming to Vegas a few times a year forever. We stayed on the strip for years, but always visited and loved Fremont, so eventually started staying on Fremont 4 or 5 years ago. We eventually found the El Cortez and loved its charm and history, and would always head there first thing to gamble—I always anticipate the moment I open the door and that El Cortez smell hits me! I also met my favorite cocktail waitress in all of Las Vegas there—Lupe, who has worked there for 40+ years. She’s sweet and friendly and remembers me every time, which means a lot. She’s a wealth of knowledge about the casino/hotel, and I’ve enjoyed hearing her stories and experiences. She is the epitome of what draws Vegas history lovers to the downtown/Fremont area. There aren’t many like her left, and I so hope the El Cortez appreciates what she means to her folks! We used to stay at Golden Nugget, but just got home from our first stay at El Cortez in one of the Original 47 vintage rooms, and we absolutely loved our stay. They have been awesomely re-done and are right above the casino. Housekeeping was great and our room was super clean. The guy whose name I didn’t get who drove our complimentary shuttle to the airport was awesome. I was almost super sad because I didn’t see Lupe until our last day there and thought she was gone, but she appeared at my favorite slot machine on our last day and made my trip! We will definitely return and would recommend to anybody that loves old awesome Vegas!…
Excellent staff! Friendly professional staff from top to bottom. Kudos to management. Thumping music til 1am was a huge negative for us. Would definitely stay here again but only if I could be guaranteed a room much higher above the street or on the other side of the property
Have been going to Vegas for 40 plus years. Usually stay on the Strip. Though we would give Downtown a chance this time. Mistake. Made reservation well in advance and requested mountain view room on a higher floor in anticipation that Fremont street would be noisy. Upon arrival, found we were on "Strip View" side and high up. Did not know there was a club diagonally across that played the loudest club music I have ever heard until 2:30 AM.!! Now I don't go to Vegas for quiet R&R but I do require sleep. When I asked for a different room the next day they said to check back at 2 pm. Which I did and was told they had sold out but had 30-40 rooms that didn't have housekeeping so nothing available. Housekeeping was off and on. I offered to clean a room just to get away from the music. Of course they declined that. Safe would not open. Coffee maker required finagling to get a full cup. Since we were with friends did not want to change hotels but should have. Instead checked back the next day and the lady at the front desk handed me earplugs and said good luck. Probably the most apathetic front desk personnel I have ever encountered. The gaming tables were good and it is a smaller casino so don't have to navigate a football field to go to your room. I was hoping since it is a family owned business I might see more care given. I was really disappointed and will not be back.…
