I do not know whether all of the rooms in this hotel are as tiny as room 206. It has one double bed, one night stand, and one refrigerator. There is a small closet and a small bathroom. There is no coffee machine nor microwave. The television and wi-fi were fine. If you want an ocean front view and do not care about the size of the room or amenities, then this room is acceptable.

The owner of this property has no business running and advertising this as a hotel for families! It. is. not! We paid over $200/night to stay at a halfway house! It was strange when we first arrived that there were "guests" walking around in their pajamas and smoking on the front stoop of the "hotel". Then we went to our room, (which was not an ocean view room.) The shower was less than 10 inches from the bed! and the toilet was shoved into a closet barely big enough for one person! The bed were cots. We couldn't close the blinds or curtains so we had to put pillows in the windows so we could change and *cringe* shower. The second day,(and last day), we stayed we noticed a sign in lobby that said "No guests allowed upstairs", which we also thought was odd. The kicker came when we overheard a "guest" at the desk talking about his $200/week rate!! Wait, what? Why are we paying $200+ a night!!!! This was horrible! If the owner is running this place as a halfway house, great. I'm sure there is a need for it, BUT THEN DON'T TRY TO ADVERTISE AS A HOTEL FOR FAMILIES!!! Will never stay again.

Well, I don't quite know where to start. So far we had stayed in times Square, niagra falls and now done a 6 hour car drive to belmar, new jersey. On arrival we joked that we would be staying at the hotel with all the plants in the window. As it happens that was it! It's exactly what it says on the tin, no frills. No breakfast. Collect your paper cup from reception in the morning and make your coffee. Its a bit like a hostel with comings and goings. The rooms are clean and basic. Loved the American fridge though. Staff are always at reception, albeit don't ask too many questions. It's a great location for the beach. The swimming pool was closed and when I asked why I was told yes it's closed! The problem is they have got the monopoly, as there are no other hotels around. It is very over priced for what it is. We loved our time in new jersey. Would we stay there again no we wouldn't. We would have to stay outside of belmar. It's also only a 1.5 hour drive back to new york city.

Actually stayed July 2018 and would like to go back some day. Staff was great. Location was good. Price was right. Not for everyone, but we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for affordable lodging in Belmar NJ. .......

We stayed at the Mayfair in mid October/2021 in a room overlooking the ocean. It was a little smallish but beautifully done and the view of the ocean made everything perfect. The cute vintage looking refrigerator went well with the charm of the room and hotel. There is no eleveator but help with luggage up the stairs was offered. We found the climb helped with our much needed exercise for the day. We loved being able to walk the boardwalk and beach each day. There is a glass porch area to sit in and watch the ocean if the weather is bad. The new hotels cannot give the charm and warmth of this historic hotel. Yes parking might be an issue during peak times but we found a place everyday just around the corner. We also discovered Beckman's Deli near Main Street that offered a nice variety for breakfast. This too was a delightful place to start our day. This was a wonderful start to our east coast adventure.

I know this is an older building and so big, the upkeep must be enormous. I have stayed in Ocean Grove in a similar aged structure and the Mayfair is charming and well kept, especially in comparison. The staff were friendly, someone really loves plants as the front room was a sumptuous garden welcome for patrons to sit in and enjoy, the sunroom up front has a full ocean view and you are welcome to eat meals in there (provide your own) . Our room (109) was delightful, all in blues with a clean and modern bathroom. Side room but still full view of the ocean and two large windows. Parking is free on side streets and in front (non ocean side) but I imagine the competition in summer is fierce. Directly across the street is the boardwalk and a beautiful large beach with white sand. Beach tags needed in season.

My mom and I needed to go to Jersey very last minute. During Covid Times, we thought we'd be able to get any room, anywhere. Not the case. Every AirBNB was booked. Every hotel was booked. Mayfair Inn was the very last choice. Reviews were ... okay, and we had to go, so watcha gonna do? Few things: Upon walking in, my mom realized she'd left her mask in the car. Despite having a "No mask, no service" sign, the front desk guy said, "Eh, we don't worry about that sort of thing here." Despite that, he was very friendly. He told us we had a very good room that goes for $500 a night in the summer ($140 is what we paid). My mom asked if they offered breakfast and he said no. "We're a no frills place." You got that right. Room had two beds. If you're a snob about this stuff, the sheets were not matching. My bed had blue sheets. My mom's had orange sheets. There wasn't a phone in the room, which is no big deal, just an observation. There was no cable TV, again, no big deal since we were just there to sleep. But still. I wanted to take a shower, so I opened the bathroom door. Just a toilet. I asked my mom if the other door was a shower. Nope. A closet full of seven air conditioning units. Oddly, no air conditioning in the room. And the pipes rattled terribly all night. So where was the shower? It was IN the bedroom hiding behind what I thought was a window curtain. Literally. Shower. In the room. Keep in mind I'm with my mom, so if one of us wanted to shower, the other had to leave the entire hotel room. Short on privacy. The beds themselves were ok, but the pillows were atrocious. Like, they got the sheets and pillows at the dollar store. Horribly uncomfortable. The bedroom smelled like old cigarettes. Especially the bathroom for some reason. In the morning, I found the front desk guy outside smoking cigarettes. The steps were littered with cigarettes. Anyway, will not be staying here again. I honestly cannot believe some developer hasn't snagged this spot up, because the area is nice.

Room was small but super clean and bright. Great location...right across the street from the beach. Parking is difficult on the weekend but we had no problem during the week. Owner was very accommodating.

Things you should know: the room is small. There is no cable tv -- only antenna channels, which are limited. There is only street parking, no parking lot, so i dont know how parking would be during the summer season. You may have to climb a LOT of stairs to get to your room. You cannot control the heat in your room in any way. The heat is central, in the hotel, and they have no thermostat, just 2 settings: on or off. The mattress was hard. There is NOT 24 hours desk service, as they advertise. There is no enforcement of the non-smoking policy: someone was smoking weed and I had to keep my windows open most of the night, and got only 2 hours sleep because of the smell and the aching in my lungs, for which I needed to take pain medication. I have asthma and purposely booked a hotel that was supposed to be completely non smoking. Even the clerk smelled the weed. He did not call the police or knock on doors -- he said he could do nothing.(I had to cut my trip to Asbury Park short, the next day, due to lack of sleep.) After getting bullied on the phone the next day by employee, "Mike," they finally agreed to refund half my room charge. The room and bedding were very clean, the lobby was nice, there is a nice frig in the room, a nice view out of the window, you can use the microwave in the lobby, and the night clerk, Tim, was polite and carried my bag up all those steps. I have to rate this hotel as low value because of the smoking.
