Me and my wife were staying at this hotel because it was nearby where we needed to go for a funeral. We checked in after spending 4 hour at the viewing. Our room smelled like a gym locker and cigarettes. We were able to get another room. We awaken at 1 am to a chirping carbon monoxide detector. Chirping indicates a low battery. It turns out it had expired. While waiting for assistance, I realized I had to get it to stop so we could sleep. I grabbed a chair but hadn’t noticed it had wheels. So you can probably see this didn’t end well- off the chair and broke my shoulder. That afternoon after the funeral, I reached out to the GM. He was rude and unprofessional. But I’m not surprised after seeing many negative reviews about him. Anyway, I reached out to offer some suggestions. Instead of empathy and listening he was dismissive. My suggestion was to check this units more often than the state minimum, lower so one could replace battery without getting on a ladder. He just wanted to restate his talking points. The only chain hotels I’ll do is Marriott, but this dump was nearby. Used to be a better brand- with guest satisfaction a priority.

You don’t find friendly people any more. The man at the front desk gave me directions when I called the day before. At arrival he connected with each customer and later I saw him meticulously cleaning by hand the room cards.

1st room—505 or 507–I couldn’t get out of bathroom. My husband had to help me out and he struggled to open the door also. This wasn’t a new issue by any means. The sliding door track is all bent. No dish tv service. 2nd room—517–sun morning woke up bit, thought nothing of it. Second morning woke up to more bits, searched bed found no bed bug evidence. Tue morning woke up at 2:30am to getting bit. Have two big welts on my arm, moved to floor to sleep. Woke up to bed bug crawling on my face…swatted at it saw it on my arm. Took pics of it, caught it. Called down to front desk at 3:30am, mentioned the problem to him, he said manager comes in at 9am. Went down for breakfast, at and asked if management was in, overheard front desk gal on phone she said Ryan, gm wouldn’t be in until 11am. Talked to the agm, she said she would credit us one night, that’s all she could do. Tried to get me to sign something stating I was okay with that, I refused and told her I’m not okay. I’m all bit up and miserable and that now we have to move yet again to a third room. 3rd room, room 222–must be the crap room they put people who complain in. Shower floods when taking a shower, had water up above my ankles and the stopper was up. Toilet isn’t secured to floor. White stain behind the toilet. I am disappointed Ryan the gm couldn’t even be bothered to call to see how I am and offer something…at least show he cares about his guests. Of course at checkout, after 9am, Ryan once again isn’t it. So he either doesn’t work much or is afraid to be confronted by guests who are all bit up from bed bugs and have a valid reason to want to talk to him. I did tell gal that they should maybe treat 222, in case when we moved rooms bed bugs went with us. My husband and I have managed motels before so know how to deal with bed bugs and the way we were avoided by the gm Ryan isn’t one of the ways.

I made my reservation for this hotel two.months in advance for my friends wedding. When I called two weeks before my check in date the told me that they had to record of my reservation number in there system so I had to rebook for a much for expensive room since I was no longer in the wedding "block". When I arrived and asked about checking in early the front desk attendant was rude and petty, told me that I came to early and the only room available that was "clean" was the handicap room. I told him no and I'll wait so I came back at my appointed check in time and he still have me the handicap room. To put it kindly the room was awful. First I'm 6'3 and the shower head in a handicap accessible room was half way up my chest, the water pressure was so low I could barely shower probably and it looked like someone had used the shower head as a bidet. The door to my room didn't close on its own it had to me pushed or pulled close Everytime for it would sit open which is a massive gust security issue. I only realized when I got out of the pitiful excuse of a shower and my door was open so anyone could at any point could've come in without my consent. This was all-around the worst stay over had at a hotel. If I could give this place -1 stars I would. There area my much better hotels in the area you could and should stay at.

Response from Ryan Thompson, General Manager at Hampton Inn Denville/Rockaway/Parsippany
Responded 8 Sep 2021
Mr. Scott D, We apologize that your recent stay was not up to your standards. All of our Wedding blocks are provided a cutoff date to make their reservations; I am sorry that the Wedding party did not provide that to you. When you arrived at 10:30 am the only room available was the handicap room. When you checked in the credit card you provided did not work and when you did return with someone with a working credit card we provided you with a room that was available. We had several requests for early check in and we try to accommodate everyone as best we can. I will have my Engineers make certain that room and every room has the proper security.
