The first thing the desk clerk said to me on check-in was “you won’t need your room serviced, right?” Seemed odd for a stay of this length. The hotel used covid as an excuse for everything. I was in Jersey hotels for the previous 3 weeks without covid excuses. My TV didn’t work. No big deal. I called & they sent someone up. At 11pm I asked them to leave bc I was exhausted. Went out next morning & asked again to have to issue resolved. Came back & the tv still not working. I called the desk & she said he was on his way back up. Half hour later still not there so I went back down to the desk. I was so annoyed at the clerks condescending & superior attitude that I asked to either fix the tv or change room. She changed me from a superior King on the top floor with a beautiful view of Manhattan skyline to a tiny & dirty room with a view of a parking lot on a low floor with another faulty tv. MC offered nothing for this inconvenience, not even an apology. Here’s what I noticed: No towel bar for hand towel No laundry bag in either room No laundry service/dry clean Tv doesn’t work No coffee in room No housekeeping No microwave No room service & restaurants not open. No robe (as advertised) Nowhere to hang bath towels but they expect you to reuse them for 4 days. After room change: Still no towel bars bedside lamp didn’t work Lighted make-up mirror doesn’t work Bright light in room from the mini fridge cabinet missing Tv had bad picture Smelled heavily of cigar Phone was dirty despite “covid protocol” cleaning The maintenance man was so mortified that he moved all my items to the new room and refused my tip. Both men I dealt with from maintenance were polite & professional-that’s why I added a star to my review. The other star is for the servers & bartender on the rooftop bar. I insisted they comp me for the inconvenience (meaning a free night or at least dinner like every other high-end hotel does without prompting). Originally she said I could take a “tiny beer” & I said I didn’t drink beer but would take White Claw seltzer. She said it was “on me” but fraudulently added to my bill. Shows her complete lack of integrity. When I checked out, the clerk stood there for about 10 minutes before she would print out a copy of the bill I requested. She only did it after someone appeared behind me in line. I took her picture after she refused to give me her name (she wore no name tag) & she screamed hysterically that it was illegal to take her picture (there’s numerous cameras in the lobby), threatened me & ran away. Eventually she came back & screamed that she was “completely insulted that I took her picture”. I was insulted at the horrible way I was treated during my stay. It’s a shame that this newish hotel has been allowed to become such a disaster. I was super excited to stay here since there aren’t many upscale hotels in the area. Who would design a bathroom without any towel racks? Seems a silly oversight. Update: I contacted Marriott afterwards & they refunded me a portion of my stay. They also removed the fraudulent charge. This hotel has fantastic potential & I hope Marriott will get them on the right track. I’m a gold elite Marriott member & my spouse is a platinum elite member. We travel extensively & until recently, almost exclusively stay at Marriott properties.

The hotel hasn’t recovered from the pandemic. I know that’s the case many places, but go with eyes wide open. The beds are saggy, the staff is distracted and unhappy and the lobby coffee is just undrinkable. For some reason I associated the Autograph Collection as a better quality hotel. We should have just stayed in a Residence Inn for the quality and am saved ourselves a boatload of cash.

The rudest receptionist I’ve ever met. Simply put I have never met a so entitled, non interested, absolutely devoid of customer service person ever. This hotel was booked by work for me, but the first impression by this woman was so cold and hostile, the hotel may have well as been the car park. She had absolutely no interest I. The guests and her job was obviously to beneath her. Her attitude marred what should have been a good three or four star hotel. Marriott should be really proud that this young lady can single handedly decimate the hotel reputation. Which is a pity as there are a number of restaurants and bars around the hotel that are fabulous.

I understand that there is short-staffing and other issues because of the times. But what for what this hotel charges - if you can't do it, don't do it! We made online reservations for three rooms for our wedding weekend. Thank goodness I didn't delete the original confirmations because when we left, we were charged TRIPLE the amounts (current room rates, I guess?), exorbitant amounts kept appearing (and then sometimes disappearing, sometimes not) on three different credit cards (even though we were explicit that all room charges except for incidentals should be on one), one room was charged for valet services 6 days for a 2 day stay (and valet was supposed to have been included in the package), etc., etc. It took some time to look at the folio for each room to sort out exactly what was going on. When discussed with one of the assistant managers, she insisted that all the rates were correct, that everything changed because we made a lot of changes (we added on night to one room), and somehow had no record of the nonrefundable rates we paid for at time of reservation (only existing proof were the confirmation emails I received. She behaved as if it was all our error even when the folios themselves were rife with them (6 valet days!) and screenshots of charges appearing on cards were supplied. (A big issue for one card that was a debit card.) After every conversation where things were supposed to have been rectified on the one primary card, random charges continued to appear on the other two guests' cards. On top of that, the on-site service. 8 of us had breakfast at the hotel early and not crowded. We waited an inordinate amount of time for coffee (which had to be made) and water (we were told it had to be made through a fancy filter, and when it finally arrived, we there was only enough for a half glass. There were no napkins (we were told they'd run out!). The orders took forever, came out piecemeal, and at least two of them were wrong. Even though we took care of our own, there was no one available to take care of bags anyway. The valet area was exceedingly crowded. The toilets barely flushed. The magnification mirror had a dead battery. One room smelled like rotten fish. When you pay this much for a hotel, the expectation obviously is a much higher level of service. I've had much better service at a Hotel 6 and have never with any business anywhere ever run into the number of billing errors. I know it's a convenient spot for Montclair, but STAY ANYWHERE ELSE! It is simply not worth the $ and at any amount, the aggravation.

This really is a beautiful property with awesome space! The hotel itself was super clean, and the staff was hospitable. Everyone at the front desk was definitely accommodating to our group. Megan especially made our experience great on the rooftop! Great views and good appetizers. After our stay I was confused about reading my bill and over the phone Alyssa walked me through it and helped me out, she was super helpful and friendly. Overall we had a great time and will definitely be back for leisurely stay!
