Great spot to walk around. Stores and restaurants in walking distance. Prudential Arena is less than 10min walk! Hotel was clean and great for the value. We booked a King w/ view but Def had a huge generator thing right outside our window, we checked in right on time at 3pm with a short wait for a room to get ready.
Since I'm from the west coast, I sleep late with the Do Not Disturb sign on. Just before noon, I pressed the "Housekeeping" button on the phone, but it didn't work. So, I called the front desk, and they said housekeeping doesn't have a direct line. So, why, then is there a button on the phone labeled "Housekeeping"?! REMOVE THE LABEL. How hard is this? I told the front desk I was stepping out for an hour, and I asked that they have my room cleaned while away. They assured me it would be done. To be doubly sure, on my way out I stopped at the front desk and repeated my request. The attendant was somewhat aloof, but told me, "I'll be sure it's done." I wasn't gone for an hour; I was gone for *two* hours. Came back to the room, and of course it hasn't been cleaned. Went to the front desk and politely asked to speak to the manager. The attendant notified the manager—and then I stood there for 15 minutes, waiting for the manager. Finally, I repeated my request to speak to the manager and asked why it would take so long when a hotel guest has asked to see the manager. "He's on the phone," I was told. So, you make a guest stand there and wait 15 minutes, just to speak to the manager? There's no assistant manager or someone else who's available when a guest has a concern? These weren't unusual or unreasonable requests. I just wanted my room cleaned, and two hours was sufficient time. This is "Hotel Management 101." Basic stuff. And this is a failure. This hotel is poorly run. P.S. Last night I looked everywhere for the room-service menu, but couldn't find it. So I called the front desk. No answer. Then I called the hotel operator. No answer. So I went down to the front desk. Turns out, although there's a large restaurant adjacent to the lobby, there's no room service. 😳 And the restaurant closes at 9pm! 9pm! Of course I discovered this at 8:57pm. What "upscale" hotel doesn't have room service? And if this is the case, why not at least mention this to guests at check-in, so they don't waste time looking for the menu and/or making a trip to the front desk for info? Or place an info sheet in each room? I do not recommend this hotel.…
Stayed here from United having to delay my flight. Hotel is very swank and decadent. Bed was comfy, pillows were wonderful, shower amenities were nice. Front desk guy left much to be desired. I asked questions and he just didn’t respond — is there a restaurant nearby open 24 hours. Arriving, choosing the hotel for the 24 hour shuttle, it didn’t run on Sundays. Do I had to get Uber after waiting in cold. At 3:30 am, I had to wait 30+ minutes with 3 other people even though the driver and shuttle bus were there! Because they only run on the hour! I could hear the front desk guy snoring from across the room — he was not the driver. He couldn’t answer questions about the shuttle because he was sleeping. I would have selected a different hotel based on the not 24 hour shuttle.
They lock the room temp to what they want - and then it doesn't work. It's own gauge says it's 4 degrees cooler than what they set it for. I've never been to a hotel that limits my comfort before - and won't be staying here again.
Dirty headboard in room. Few towels provided and no spare toilet paper. Called front desk to ask for an extra pillow and the request was denied because there was no housekeeping working, so we asked if someone from the front desk was able to bring us one & that was denied as well. We were not told that the lot is pay by hour and you need to bring the ticket inside in order to receive a voucher. Restaurant staff very rude. Would not stay again.
This hotel has so much potential! but unfortunately whoever is managing it, isn't doing a great job. It felt like I was at an airport terminal getting in and out from the parking lot up to our rooms. the rooms and lobby were clean and nice, and gives you everything you might need. The staff seems nice, but it`s one of those cases were they aren't trained properly and gives you weird advices while laughing at a joke they made. Parking at the hotel is trash and 20 dollars extra.
We had a really good stay at Tryp Wyndham. Not entirely positive, but what was important to us was up to par. Pros: -- Massive room and bathroom. Compared to NYC area rooms, this was a ballroom. Plenty of room to spread out, unpack and get ready for a night out. -- Quiet room. Heard no noise overnight, but we were as far from elevators as we could get. -- Great location for NJPAC (we were going to a concert here) and Newark Museum of Art. Both easily walkable, and we felt safe after dark. -- In and out self-park, couldn't have been better. -- Decent in-hotel restaurant. We just had pasta and a drink before the show. Was perfectly fine and all we needed. There are some restaurants over near NJPAC but we assumed they'd be full before the show. Starbucks about 6 minute walk for coffee/breakfast. Whole Foods a bit further to pick up drinks/snacks for the room. -- Decent amount of counter space and big shower. No complaints on the bathroom. -- Comfortable beds, a good night's sleep. Cons: -- Front desk staff really lethargic and apathetic when we first showed up. Had to ask to leave luggage until we could check in, then she quickly got back to watching a movie on her phone. Just a bad look on the person who is supposed to be your first impression. -- Bathroom does get cold but that's where we left bottles of water overnight to keep them cold. We kept bathroom door closed to keep sleeping area warm (early December). If we ever have reason to go back to Newark, I'd stay here again. …
Where to start…… Cons: 1. The front desk staff were unwelcoming to say the least. They could not be bothered for anything. 2. Basic amenities that are typical in any average hotel was not available. Example: you couldn’t purchase a soft drink. Water was not complimentary while waiting to check in. You can purchase a Deer Park water for $2 though. 3. Breakfast buffet, wasn’t much of a buffet at all. $18.50 +tax for bagels, very little fruit, runny eggs, undercooked bacon (thought I heard the pig snort it was so undercooked), oatmeal paste, and don’t try to eat there if you have food allergies. But it is all you can eat so that’s a plus. 4. The air draft from the bathroom moved the window blind and if you shut the door for any length of time the bathroom was so cold you need shoes and a jacket to be in there. 5. Shower handle was broken; cold was hot and hot was cold. 6. Only one elevator worked. 7. The cleaning staff was knocking on the fort three hours prior to checkout even with the Do Not Disturb sign on the handle. Double-checked to make sure it was still there after they left. 8. The stench of marijuana was overwhelming. I’m not sure if it is legal there or not, but if so, upgrades to the ventilation needs to occur 9. The manager couldn’t be bothered and relayed messages through the front desk staff. 10. The shuttle only runs once an hour on the hour, while other nearby hotels run every 15 minutes. But it is free. Pros: 1. The bed was comfortable. 2. Good size room. 3. A half mile to Penn Station. 4. Close to Nike, Starbucks, and walking distance to local restaurants. 5. Felt safe in the hotel and neighborhood. 6. We were able to store our luggage there until check-in time. 7. Not a lot of noise when we stayed there. 8. Clean…
Independent of facility, location, ammenities, etc. this property appears to have suffered a colapse of its administrative and operational structure. From the duty manager flowing down to the courtesy van driver, the customer service and empathy is deplorable. To begin with, we waited for more than 1.5 hours at location P4 of the Newark airport to be picked up, with little to no disposition and/or apologies before such mishap. Adding insult to injury, the front desk clerk upon our late arrival promised to provide us a complimentary taxi back to the airporr the next morning...we ended paying US$31.00 to a taxi driver selected by the hotel....at the most, the staff is barely capable to run a shelter or a soup kitchen.
I was overcharged for my booking. The room wasn't ready at 330 pm with a check in time of 3pm. Okay cool we went to eat and came back. We checked in we were told the prince was 175 less than what booking.com said okay cool but a $44 hold would be with it and would drop off but it never did. I never damaged anything nor received notice that anything was damaged to warrant keeping the hold.
