Spacious, spotless, beautifully furnished room, with small refrigerator. Enclosed skywalk with security personnel connects train station with hotel. Restaurant is bistro style with limited entrees (3) but good selection of sandwiches, appetizers, & salads. Food ample and good quality, prices reasonable. Bar drinks a bit pricey. Very nice, professional staff both at lobby desk and restaurant. Full service restaurants only a block away. An easy walk to the Performing Arts Center.
The hotel is at nice location from connection to public transport . The rooms are big and very clean. The service specifically front desk was very cooperative and good. Only improvement needed is airport shuttle. I did Not get shuttle after waiting 90 minutes at the airport. They have it every 60 minutes they should make it every 30 minutes. Microwave in each room would be good.
Not a trustworthy hotel. They can cancel your booking even up to your check-in time. This is a warning for future travellers, especially for families with young children. We booked months ahead, for a 1-night stay at this hotel, before boarding a cruise at Cape Liberty Port, since it was conveniently located near Newark Penn Station. The night before our flight, I called the hotel to confirm our reservation and it was good to go! We arrived the following day at around noon and tried to check in, but was told by the Front Desk that our room was not ready yet. She said to come back any time after 3pm to check-in. They allowed us to leave our luggages in the storage and we left to visit New York City. Upon arrival back at the hotel at around 8:30pm, the Front Desk informed us that our Reservation has been cancelled and refunded the cost back to Expedia. So, they basically left us to hang dry, in a foreign city at a foreign country, in the middle of the night with no place to go, not even considering that we have two young children with us (ages 7 and 10). After speaking to the Manager, all he said was there’s nothing they could do and to try and call a hotel with vacancy near the airport. And that was that. He said that it was Expedia’s fault because they overbooked. When I got back home, I called the hotel’s Customer Service to open up a complaint case. I needed to understand why did they confirm the day before when I called that my reservation was good to go? And why didn’t they inform us earlier on the day we arrived at check-in that our reservation was cancelled, so we could’ve taken proper action to look for another place? I finally got an answer back and all they said our case was closed since our cost was refunded back and there’s nothing else for them to do. What was done to us and how we we were treated without respect, without regard and without consideration that we had children and they just cancelled our reservation just like that, was definitely unacceptable! I booked with this hotel because I trusted the brand. I will never ever again use Double Tree or Hilton in the future. A warning to all those who may think that this is just a “one-off”. That’s what I used to think when I carefully read reviews of other people and they rant the same as me on how they were treated. And you might think “this won’t happen to me”. But what if you are the “one-off” at that time. Better not take the same risk we did. Do not trust this hotel with your booking because they can cancel your reservation at anytime if they need to give your room to a larger group (like a tour bus). They have no respect or regards to small customers like us. …
My friend Jim and I stayed at the Doubletree recently before flying out of EWR. We were amazed by the high caliber of the bar, restaurant and front desk staff. Many of them had worked at the hotel for twenty or thirty years! The owner must be doing something right! Along with their impact, the Doubletree has a great location near several downtown restaurants. We had a great lunch at Don Pepe. And the airport van got us to EWR without delay. We'll definitely stay there again!
My grown son and I booked 2 rooms for nearly $300 / night for 1 night. The hotel is a perfect location for a sporting event at Prudential Center and arrival at Penn Station. The front staff were friendly and had a warm cookie and welcome bag. My sons room had a broken alarm clock. My room had some gross stains on the carpet as well as clogged tub and sink drains (and the sink drain had a slight leak to the floor). I spoke to the folks at the front desk and they sent someone up to clear the drains. The tub worked a little better but the sink was still clogged. I went to the fitness center the next morning. It is a fine and typical but there was a ton of dust and grime on the equipment. The floor had measurable grime pushed up against the equipment - DO NOT stretch out on the floor! Thank goodness this trip was just 1 night with me and my son and we were in the rooms for a minimal amount of time. We would not have stayed if this was a longer vacation or had our spouses with us. I did express my dissatisfaction about the rooms with the manager. They refunded $50 off of the total bill. I let the manager know that I did not think it was sufficient. I was advised that there was nothing further they could do. I left this same review with Doubletree review and Hilton and I was very disappointed as we are a Hilton reward member. No benefits here.…
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Security was amazing at the hotel. Very convenient to the train station!! The room was great. We stayed on the 10th floor and faced the Newark Penn Station. The view was amazing and did not mind the soft sounds of the trains! Will definitely stay here again!!!
On the night of September 30 we missed a connecting flight at Newark airport. United provided us with a voucher for this hotel. We received a confirmation text. When we got there we were told there was no room available. We recognized 3 other couples from our plane in the lobby that also were turned away after being promised a room. Staff gave us no assistance in finding an alternate room. We finally found a room at the Fairfield Inn and went there. This was unbelievably poor customer service and be rest assured I will never seek a room at a Hilton facility again!
Stayed at the Doubletree for just two nights while in town with our university athletic team. The location is convenient to the airport, the Prudential Center and not a far drive from Seton Hall. The rooms are a nice size, updated and clean. A typical Hilton experience. My only complaint is that the ice machine didn’t work on my floor and the elevators are very slow. I did manage to snag an extra cookie when I had to get my room key re-set, so that’s always nice.
Everything about this hotel above the lobby is stained, frayed and crumpled. The corridor carpets, the room carpets and the chair in my room were stained. I’m not convinced the sheets in the bed had been ironed…I really hope they had actually been changed between guests. The bathroom was clean but ancient with the towel rails weirdly arranged around the toilet bowl.
Attempted to resolve issue through Hilton site.. to no avail! Stayed one night .. never again! Artwork taken off the wall.. hardware left behind! Could hear someone vomiting through vent in bathroom, large ants in bedding for sofa bed! One towel for 3 guests! A lot for rate given!
