Detailed Reviews
Searched for a new place to stay when I visit relatives in the area and found this Inn following a recommendation by them. For me, it was a great location and a nice, tiny community to explore within easy walking distance. The historic (if you're a popular music fan) Stanhope House is just down the street and worth a visit, if even for a cocktail, to see the photographs on the walls of those who have performed there. Some rooms at the Inn, especially on the third floor can be pretty angular and challenging to get around in so choose accordingly (there is a lump on my head that is reminding me of this as I write!!). Breakfasts are plentiful and, if there are few guests staying, may be made to order by the proprietor. WiFi is very good. Sufficient parking behind the property. Comfortable bed. Lots of information about the area and it's attractions in the booklet found in your room. There is a tiny deli (not the Italian kind you're probably thinking of) just down the street and a very good restaurant, Bell's Mansion, within a 10 minute walk. Rose's, a breakfast/lunch restaurant is also nearby and has good portions for very fair prices. Remains of portions of the old Morris Canal and tow path are also nearby. I would stay here again.

What a charming find in North Jersey! My husband and I were attending an evening wedding at Waterloo Village and did not want to make the hour and a half ride home late at night, so I checked out local hotels, etc., and discovered The Whistling Swan Inn. Am I glad I did! Roz and Tom are gracious hosts, and made us feel extremely welcome. Our accommodations were lovely, especially the comfy bed and the nice hot shower. The room was spotless. The location of the inn is also very convenient, which made us a little less concerned about driving on unfamiliar roads in the dark. Breakfast the next morning was scrumptious! We were give a number of options from which to choose; it was not an easy decision to make. We both had the most delicious French toast we have ever had! Roz sat and chatted with us for a while and provided some other guests with some useful information and suggestions of activities for their stays. If we are ever up in this area of the state again, I would jump at the chance to stay again at the Whistling Swan Inn.

While we are all waiting for “this to will pass”, why not retreat to a small inn and wash those cares away? From the first conversation on the phone to book until the last on the porch, these innkeepers genuinely care. Comfy bed with the softest of sheets, a large whirlpool tub to wash those cares away, homemade brownies in the room with other snacks, and blueberry pancakes on the veranda! Social distancing, small inn, and tentative staff. Wonderful dinner nearby at Bell’s Mansion. Outdoors of course! We all need a “safer” place to escape the stress of this pandemic. Look forward to booking again when my fractured arm fully heals and I can bicycle once again!

I booked the Tranquility room over the Easter weekend and it was just that. The room is one of the smallest with a slanted ceiling but very comfortable and cozy. The property in general was very clean, the house impeccably decorated and has ample parking available. I love that the vacant room doors are open. I was able to pick room for my next stay. Breakfast was well prepared and my BF and I enjoyed a chat with the owner. Looking forward to returning when the weather warms to enjoy the porch and gardens.

My wife and I spent a lovely snowy weekend here. Throughout, Ros was welcoming and friendly without being overbearing - she really struck the perfect balance between displaying interest and respecting privacy.
We stayed in the Waterloo Village room. It was small but very comfortable. We had enough space to relax, play some board games, and watch TV. I brought along a Chromecast, and had no trouble getting it connected to the TV and WiFi so that we could stream whatever content we wanted.
Breakfast was excellent. Both days featured a buffet with an assortment of sweet and savory dishes, as well as daily specials that Ros prepared fresh. The food was of high quality and well-prepared - and we are NOT ones to be easily impressed when we eat out! The hospitality bar is also a great touch that we took advantage of. Tea, coffee, soft drinks, cookies, and salty snacks are available throughout the day.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would be delighted to return if we find ourselves in the area again.

Stayed at Whistling Swan for our anniversary and stayed in the High Pointe room.
The hosts were gracious as soon as we walked in. The building is well maintained. The room has a 2 person whirlpool tub and a steam shower. Both of which were amazing during the blizzard of 2022.
For the price, you can’t beat this. Do yourself a favor and go.
Be sure to ask Ros about her puppies. They are adorable.

Thank you so much for the glowing review. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay, especially the High Point suite, which is one of our most popular. Most of our guests do enjoy the dogs, and as you saw, they eat up the attention. We'll look forward to your next visit.

Stayed in high point suite. Very disappointed .
For almost 300$ per night very cheap bedding/ terrible bathroom
Felt very unwelcome by host.
Only plus- nice looking property outside of the Inn
Would not come back.

We are indeed sorry your getaway did not meet your expectations. The High Point suite is one of our most requested rooms, and most of our guests comment on the high quality of our linens. There is no question that everyone cannot be pleased, and clearly you have fallen within the minority of our guests.

+1
Wonderful B&B. The High Point Suite was well appointed with a very comfortable bed and the jacuzzi tub was large and relaxing. The owners Roz and Tom were very nice and friendly and the inn was decorated with a fall theme which was very inviting. The grounds outside were nicely maintained. Our breakfasts on Wednesday and Thursday were plentiful and delicious! The mini kitchen was nicely stocked with coffee, tea, soft drinks, bottled water and snacks to help yourself anytime of the day or night. Would highly recommend for a nice relaxing getaway.

We arrived at the Inn and found our room ready and waiting for us. All details to make us comfortable were present, toiletries, linens, etc. We spent our day with family & friends nearby at a wedding, then had a comfortable house and bedroom to come. back to. At breakfast, we were seated at the dining room table with other interesting and conversant couples. Beforehand I had let Audry & Everitt know that I had an allergy to all dairy and they were very careful to make sure my food was all-clear. I would definitely return to this charming bed & breakfast.

I stayed at the Whistling Swan this past August and submitted a review here on Travel Advisor. If I'm not mistaken, we drove to Mohawk Lake to do some kayaking and this is by NO MEANS a walking distance from Stanhope. I believe the drive took some 25 minutes. An excellent restaurant in Stanhope (and a 5-10 minute walk from the Inn) is the Bells Mansion at 11 Main St. A classy restaurant with a lot of local character, a lovely veranda and beautiful surroundings. Enjoy your stay there...
