For what they are, these chalets are brilliant. The best thing is that you have lots of hiking options right from your door. The kitchen is well equipped, and the showers are hot and good pressure. Great price, couldn't ask for better. We were also surprised and impressed that they were serviced daily. Highly recommend the Thekula Gorge hike. Easy... More

A stunning and exceptional place. Views are incredible. Huts are basic but well equipped. Ask for an upper hut, preferably at the front (ie on the right as you drive along the access road). Bring all the BBQ fuel, firewood, food and drink you need, including lighter fuel and matches - the shop at the site closes at 4.30 pm... More

This is the most special place in South Africa! Here you can look at the mountain the whole day and see the different faces of the mountain as the sun moves. Best nature experience you can think to have. The houses need a little upgrading. Just be aware of the baboons! They come in to your house and are not... More

Nothing can prepare you or the awe-inspiring views you get of the Drakensburg Mountains from the Upper Camp at Thendele in the Royal Natal National Park. The whole of the Amphitheatre is laid out before you in all its magnificent grandeur. The self-catering chalets are very spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. All you do is open your sliding doors, walk outside... More

We did not stay in the hutten camp, but at Royal natal mahai campsite. Great campsite, with beautiful views on the mountains. Chilly in winter time in south africa, but it was worth it. Making fires in old trees, waking up and seeing the sun come up coloring the mountains red, beautiful walks. Kids loved the campsite: making huts and... More

What more to say... Beautiful tranquil environment. Houses are very clean, even the kitchen gear. Based on Some of the reviews I expected damaged property but this was absolutely not the case. Hiking trails start from the premises. Watch out for the baboons... They know how to open doors!

Had a wonderful 4 days in this beautiful peaceful spot. The mountains were majestic & wonderful for walking/ hiking. Our 2 bedroom cottage was basic but clean & comfortable. You do have to remember it is a self catering camp so it is necessary to take all your provisions with you - it's a long drive back out of the... More

Stayed for two nights during off season in june in a self catering house in the lower section of Thendele camp. On check in we asked if we could be upgraded to the higher camp (because of the better view). Yes we could, but only when we paid a lot more Rand extra, which surprised us because we were one... The camp has stunning views of the Amphitheatre, so it is a great place to rest and relax. But the biggest draw for me is the availability of a range of day hikes on your doorstep. From the climb to the Policeman's Helmet to the gentle but lengthy walks up the Tugela Gorge or around to the Dooley Pools, you... More
