Had a great stay here! Stayed with my parents who came to visit me in SA. It was very clean! We had quite a bit of a sandstorm when we were there and we were surprised every day how good they cleaned our room and tried to get most of the sand out. We felt at home here. The communal... More

Three of us stayed for two nights in one of the 4 bunk bedrooms. The beds were comfortable, towels and bedding were provided. All was neat and clean. The room had an ensuite bathroom and the cupboards were equipped with clothes hangers. The room was a bit stuffy at night even though a fan was provided. It did help when the... More

This place is located in a great spot with lots of large windows to see the amazing view. Our host was extremely nice and organised our tours for us. We met other people at the place and shared experiences. The rooms are nice athough having a bathroom in the bedrooms can lead to unwanted smells. Another is if you are... More

What a surprise on our arrival at Houtbay Backpackers. Did not know what to expect. A pleasant surprise with very fond memories of Houtbay Backpackers, and will surely visit this establishment again. On arrival we were met and greeted by Sarah, our host and Molly, her friendly German Shepard. We never felt like guests but more part of a family.... More

We only stayed one night on our way. It is more a hostel than a hotel but for decent price and at a great spot right at across the road from the beach and the pier with the restaurants, boat trips departure point etc. The accomodation is fine for budget travellers, it offers a shared kitchen which is very well... Thank you for your review, the ground floor rooms as you said have not got a view but we do have some dorm rooms in the main house, which were full when you came but hopefully next time you will book one off those and do have large family/doubles and all have sea views! More

The backpacker has amazing views on the Hout Bay harbor and beach. We stayed in a family room with a big bathroom: shower and bath tub, all very clean and lovely! I recommend the rooms overlooking the beach on the kitchen/ common areas floor, as the rooms below this floor don't get such amazing views. It is a pity the... More
