Toyabali is a very nice small resort. Private bungalows a very short walk through the lush garden from the main house. Very beautiful pool.
It is a short walk across some rocks to get to the main dive site if you go via the shore. Long walk if you go up to the road and then back down. Short walk to the aqua dive shop.
The resort can do airport transfers for a good rate as it is a long way from the airport.
This is not a big all inclusive kid madness resort. It is a quiet nice, clean friendly small bungalow type resort. Quiet and relaxing with a short walk to excellent dive sites. I would stay again.

If you are looking for an absolutely relaxing stay, pampered with freshly prepared meals, an attentive staff, immaculate grounds, ocean vistas at all around, and magical snorkeling and diving steps from the beach in front of you this is the place. Yes, the road in is a little confusing, but once you arrive you are in an enchanted landscape. The cabins are gorgeous. Ibu Made and her team take care of everything. I will definitely come back again.

We stayed as a couple for two nights to enjoy some diving, and from airport pick-up to drop off in Bali, our experience was seamless. Reservation was easy, our driver was waiting ahead of time for us; we had a lovely special surprise for us in our villa for our anniversary which was a beautiful touch. Everything was perfectly clean and well maintained, the fresh flowers everywhere were a lovely touch, and the food/drinks were well prepared and well priced. We had easy access to the recommended dive centre. We had no qualms with the cool water in the bath tub -the outdoor bathroom was incredible! So very happy with our choice to stay here. Thank you to the whole Toyabali team for such a lovely stay.

Could not recommend this place any more highly. Made and her lovely staff were so welcoming and friendly. The food was to die for and nothing too much trouble.

The room was amazing and private with beautiful fresh flowers everyday.

The location and proximity to snorkeling and diving was just perfect.

Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a stay, we will definitely be back.

Just wow! This place is amazing, yes more expensive than most however the limit of 5 couples only at one time makes this place special and quiet. Fantastic views, great food and service, dive spots on the front door. We will be back as this place is amazing. The best paradise on earth!

After yet another “driver from hell” trip from Nusa Dua to Tulamben we finally arrived at our resort, Toyabali Tulamben. I don’t know whether it is just us with these drivers, but they are certainly not all that way. I don’t quite get 110kmh in fourth gear with the engine roaring, but it is common.
When I say arrived, it was quite an interesting road/track from the main road to the resort. Narrow, twisting road to a large turnaround and then down an impossibly narrow track with the drivers watching fearfully for his outside mirrors until we reached the end – the sea. No signage, just a narrow concrete path along the shore that I guessed was the way in. We came out onto a grassed area with two paths going uphill. At the top of one was a building so we took a punt and headed for it. It was obviously a dining area and pool but that was it, still no signs, or people. Eventually some people came out from the back with one calling my name and waving a key. I guessed we had arrived.
Ibu Made, the manager, took us up to Monica, our room. They all have female names. There are five units spread over the beautifully landscaped property. We were taken into the back of the room where there is a dividing wall housing the wardrobes, mini bar, tea and coffee, and safe. On the opposite side ard dual stone basins and more cupboards.
Coming around the wall and you are in the bedroom with large bamboo bed with mosquito net, not that we needed it, and glass wall on three sides looking out onto a large covered deck with table and chairs and two of the most ingenious and comfortable lounges I have seen. This again overlooked the beautiful gardens and a glimpse of the sea.
There were two air conditioners and fan in the room, and some “interesting” wooden lamps. It was all very clean and well presented.
Now the crowning glory. The “bathroom”, bathing area? I’m not sure except to say it is huge, open air and the size of the rest of the building. It consisted of a pathway through gardens to the shower, a toilet suite set into the wall and then a roofed area with a huge double spa bath and a wall of windows again opening onto the gardens.
It was explained that breakfast was between 7-10am, lunch whenever, but you had to order dinner the day before. The staff were very nice, polite and what can I say “Balinese”. The dining area looked straight out onto the sea with a small pool alongside. There was a team of workers developing the garden while we were there, always under the watchful eye of Ibu Made.
The “beach” was actually large round black volcanic rocks and extremely difficult and dangerous to walk on. Only metres from the southern end the rocks turned to gravel and was quite easy to walk on, and less than 50m along the shore was a roadway that lead directly to the main road. There were always divers and snorkelers in the water just down from us and the dive boats from the Liberty wreck were out every day. Occasionally we saw the local fishing fleet on its way back in all but surfing on the strong winds that blew constantly. We were told that Jul – Aug were the windy months every year with October being the quietest.
Breakfast was quite good with a fair variety. Lunch was limited and dinner was OK as well, limited but you wouldn’t want to stay too long without venturing into Tulamben. There was quite a bit of seafood available, but if you didn’t like chicken there wasn’t much else. It was well prepared and presented, and there was always cold Bintang.
However, your options weren’t all that exciting in Tulamben either. We did go to Matahari restaurant one night and the food was excellent (reviewed separately).
Unless you are into diving there is not much else to recommend Tulamben and it is quite a drive to get there. You are directly under Mt Agung and it was erupting while we were there. Just to add to the excitement.
Be prepared to pay up to 3 % when using credit cards. It is common everywhere we went. There are ATMs everywhere so getting cash is not a problem.

We planned to stay here for the last 5 days of our Bali trip, but we left after 2 nights.
It is a beautiful place with a very friendly staff, but there are some things to consider before you go here;

* it is very secluded, besides the ocean and diving schools there is literally nothing there.
* the villa's are nice, but don't expect real hot water.
* the whirlpool is also filled with cold water.
* the food is at best some sort of home cooking. Not bad and the price is accordingly, but nothing special.
* aging of the pool equipment and garden statues is quite visible.

But all in all we still review this resort as very good, because the staff is really going the extra mile for the guests and if you are a diver or you just prefer peaceful surroundings this is a good place to be.

I had the pleasure of a 6 day stay at the Toyabali and it was a pleasure. The four poster bed and large heart shaped Jacuzzi were somewhat wasted on a solo traveller but we're enjoyed just the same.

Set away from the beaten track that makes it difficult to find if you do not know where it is; a beautiful and peaceful place to spend your vacation.

Even if you are not staying there it is worth taking dinner at the quaint little restaurant and watch the sun go down.

Wonderful bungalow with a huge outdoor bathroom and a private jacuzzi.
Each bungalow has a nice little garden full of vegetation that garantees privacy.
The view on the ocean is amazing, especially when the sun rises.
The restaurant is good but pretty expensive for the area.
Only one bad experience: we asked the manager to book for transportation to reach our next destination. She asked the money before.
Once arrived at destination, the driver asked us for more money as she took a commission. It was a very unpleasant situation.
If you need transportation or other service, do not ask the staff of the hotel. You will find plenty of drivers in the main street.
