My wife had not been fortunate enough to experience life on a working ranch. For me, this was just like when I was a young man working on a wheat/cattle ranch in Oklahoma. The only difference was is you were allowed to choose just how much you wanted to participate in the daily work and life on the ranch and...

Exactly what I was looking for in a ranch vacation. The Chesser family is one of the most gracious and accommodating that you will ever meet. The bunkhouse has everything to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Patricia's meals were amazing and satisfying, Kim and Ty's instructions around the ranch were thoughtful and helpful. You decide at what level you...

The Chessers offer an opportunity of a lifetime. Not being a "horsey" person, the Chessers accommodated me in the most endearing ways. They saw to it that I was safe, first and foremost, and lead me on one of the greatest adventures of my lifetime. It felt like I was living in history and actually participating in how our ancestors...

This was such an awesome experience! I recommend this ranch to everybody who wants to get to know the real cowboy feeling. Kim and Patrica are fantastic hosts: Charming and with a great sense of humor. Patrica cooks delicious homemade local meals and horseback riding with Kim was stunning. Thank you!

The whole family spent 4 days at the Burnt Well Guest Ranch in March for Spring Break. We loved it because 1. The rides were longer and more exciting than we'd previously experienced at a resort type ranch. 2. We really enjoyed interacting with Kim and Patricia and the rest of their family as well as the other guests. We...

Spent a week there last fall, probably off-season a bit but enjoyed the great hospitality and easy paced ranch work and cattle driving. The ranch house is very comfortable and the horses are all good ranch workers. The spectacular rolling vistas are endless. This is a wonderful remote place that I found very restorative.

I traveled to Burnt Well with a group of (city) high school students. I won't repeat previous comments about accommodations, meals, etc. All outstanding. What really impressed me was the way hosts Kim and Patricia and Tye made us feel welcome and took a genuine interest in our diverse group of kids, most of whom had little or no experience...

Fantastic vacation, a genuine working ranch, lots of horse riding at different locations, including up in the mountains and around Fort Stanton. The cattle work was so much fun. The food was excellent and plenty. Great company. The accommodation has a feel of the old west but with all modern conveniences and spotlessly clean. The day out to Carlsbad caverns...

Burnt Well Ranch is a real working ranch. They raise cattle and lambs and started taking guests just about a decade ago to supplement income. The ranch is family run by Kim, his wife Patricia and their son and daughter-in-law. There were only 3 other guests when I was there for the week and they were all returnees. We had...

Thank you Chessers! We had the most amazing stay and really felt like we had the experience of a lifetime. Coming from a similar ranch in Australia we loved comparing notes and giggling about funny differences! Your hospitality was incomparable, food was delicious and thoughtful and accommodation was authentic and comfortable. Your horses are a credit to you with the...

“The Bunk House worked perfectly for me. They have a lovely Casita for couples too.”

“I think the Casita with its full kitchen is a good idea if you think you want to supplement your diet with some of your own home cooking. However, the bunkhouse was very comfortable and had some amenities such as a pool table.”
