We had a great overall experience at Umkumbe. There is everything you need for a great safari game viewing experience at a reasonable price. The small cosy environment and excellent service really made a difference. On arrival, we were warmly greeted by our guide Johan who showed us around. There was lots of room on the platform and tables/chairs with...

My husband and I stayed 4 nights at Umkumbe on our very first safari experience, and needless to say it was an unforgettable one. We began planning our next trip back to Umkumbe within the first day. Upon arrival, we were greeted by our guide, Johan, who showed us to our room - a Superior room, which was very spacious...

Located in the Sabi Sand private game reserve the lodge sits on the edge of the river (which was dry at this time due to the drought). Even though the river was dry lots of different animals used it like a highway including a herd of Giraffe, Buffalo, Rhino, Hippo and Elephants as well as deer/antelopes (many types). I was...

Our Ranger, Mauritz was a living A to Z of all things that lived, grew and moved on the reserve. He answered every question we threw at him (and they were many and fast) even telling us about the night sky! Our rooms were spacious and well designed with a large bathroom . Our only reason for not rating it...

We had an awesome birthday-breakaway to Umkumbe Safari Lodge. The rangers are very friendly, knowledgeable and dedicated to deliver what the bush has to offer. The food was really nice and in general; everyone was always willing to go the extra mile! Honesty is their best policy; no need for room keys + honesty bar. The rooms & beds are...

The lodge had a great view at the edge of the river, with hippo, elephant and buffalo apart from the deer family in full view. The rooms were good and had imaginative furnishings. The children thoroughly enjoyed the infinity pool; the service and food was very good. One big disappointment was the big cats were missing, something you look forward...

The room at Umkumbe was not luxurious but adequate. The bed has a mosquito net. The window shades were not adequate. We had an end unit and one of the shades was bamboo or similar material and could see through at night with the lights on. There is only one chair in the room that sleeps two. The doors don't...

The lodge is as expected: not luxurious but great! The rooms are comfortable, the food is fine. Rangers are friendly and safari very interesting. The kids (9 and 13 years old) enjoyed every part of our stay. They especially appreciate seeing animals from the lodge: hyenas, elephants, hippos. Thanks to Johan our guide for the safaris

From the first welcome to the last goodbye, everything was top-notch. Accommodations were everything you could expect, and the staff were amazing without exception. Twice-daily game drives were incredible (saw all the Big 5) and exceeded expectations - special thanks to our guide Mauritz!! Food was great, right down to fresh-baked bread and cookies. During the day, just sit in...

Danie our ranger met us on arrival and so did over 20 odd elephants and several antelopes grazing and drinking water in the river bed across the lodge. The rooms are good sized, very neat and look across the river bed . Our vegetarian food needs were very well taken care of and all meals were decent .There is a...
